Marmalade - Wait For Me Mary-Anne Lyrics

Hey!

There's a small town lyin' by the river
Halfway to nowhere
Where the trains just stop to take on water
But my girl, she lives there

She ain't, got jewels, she don't, have money
But she makes my whole world sunny
Wears, no make-up, on her face
But where she is, well that's my place
And I'm going home to my girl

Wait for me Mary-Anne
Please stay free Mary-Anne
I'm comin' home girl, just as soon as I can (my my my Mary-Anne)
Wait for me Mary-Anne
You will see Mary-Anne
With I was born, to be your true lovin' man (my my my Mary-Anne)

In the city life gets awful lonely
For a boy making good
And it's hard to keep your sense of values
And to do things you should

Girls, come easy, try, to make you
Just as soon they'll try to break you
When, the city, fills, my eyes
Then I remember summer skies
Then dream of the place I belong

Wait for me Mary-Anne
Please stay free Mary-Anne
I'm comin' home girl, just as soon as I can (my my my Mary-Anne)
Wait for me Mary-Anne
You will see Mary-Anne
That I was born to be your true lovin' man (my my my Mary-Anne)

Wait for me Mary-Anne (my my my Mary-Anne)
Please stay free Mary-Anne (my my my Mary-Anne)
I'm comin' home girl just as soon as I can (my my my Mary-Anne)
Wait for me...

Those horns sound like 'Artificial Energy'.....I love that full sound with the harmonies.......and the rolling drums.............you can imagine hearing this on the radio getting ready for school or work in 1968

    a.... ....

Roller skates, trolleys, skipping, hopscotch, tin tan tommy. I remember those days in black and white, but they were full of colour.

  8. D.... S....

Just heard that Dean Ford died today, 2nd January 2019. His music lives on.

    D.... S....

Sad times David. The musicians of those days are now (like us all) are getting older. Am so glad that the music lives on to be the legacy of singers like Dean, who provided us with some exquisite harmonies.

  9. P.... D....

    D.... C....

Alguém tem noticias de Deam Ford ?

  20. M.... M....

Marmalade was the best band of their age.

  21. M.... G....

Very 1968 sound and the harmonies are there. Reminds me of Belle Vue, Saturday nights. I didn't particularly like Marmalade in those days but recently saw this on one of the repeats of Top of the pops or Old Grey Whistle Tests that they have on TV. Shortly afterwards, Junior Campbell broke away with "Haleluah Freedom", I think. Still, happy days looking back.

  22. C.... v....

  35. W.... M....

The Music of this era was awesome! Love the clothes from the 60'sand 70's! I had a liesure suit for my high school graduation! LOL

  36. R.... S....

Everlasting Love was fantastic, great shame they didnt record it they would have done a great job. Agreed, Ob La Di had to be up there with one of the worst songs ever, but this one and Baby Make it soon was great, its inspired me to find and buy an old copy.. CD of course

  37. c.... ....

My first single was Lovin' Things! In the history of British groups, Marmalade are unfairly overlooked, with power pop, folk rock and even psych! Drummer Alan Whitehead was the only Englishman in the line up, after replacing Raymie Duffy.

  38. i.... ....

Kiitos ! Eipä näitä pop helmiä enää kuule. Kuuluu tuon ajan lemppareihini !!!

  39. s.... ....

Fantastic song. This band knew how to do it just right. I loved the diversity of their music as much as I loved their performances.

  40. m.... l....

Now THAT'S what I CALL a key change!!

  41. J.... ....

Marmalade what a Group this 60s Music style was always played at the local Ice Rink and we would chase the Birds around all day with our Mod Gear on Great Days Aye.

  42. S.... G....

Please join the Marmalade Dean Ford - Singer Songwriter Facebook Group. Band members participate . Thanks!

  43. T.... H....

i married my wife when this song came out still love d song and my wife

  44. t.... ....

@Wigglingwench45 Same here! I was born in 1964 and too young to take it in consciously. I am rediscovering this stuff through my 13-year old daughter. These bands were very good...

  45. W.... ....

Falling Deeply for this great band ! Just discovering them :( 40 years too late ! Well I was a baby in their heyday..I'm huge Beatles fan..Their version of Ob La Di is fine imo. The Beatles will ALWAYS be best but every now and again a band does a great cover..they did one ! This a fun band. Dean Ford=FOXXXY

  46. a.... ....

Lead singer - Dean Ford; Lead guitar (lefty and upside down stringing!) - Junior Campbell; Drummer - Alan Whitehead; Bass - Graham Knight; Rhythm guitar and occasional 6-string bass - Pat Fairley.

They are from Scotland, and were originally known as Dean Ford and the Gaylords.

tubbychubby1 - you asked for any info - they have a facebook page, look for "Marmalade - Dean Ford".

Me personally, I think their harmonies are as good as The Beatles/Hollies/Bee Gees! :-)

  47. t.... ....

Hi great band, can anyone give the names of the members and what they doing now, or any info,....cheers

  48. m.... l....

    Now THAT'S a key change!"

  49. G.... E....

    The original

  50. m.... l....

How clearly I remember buying this single. 40 years on, what a truly fantastic example this is of the perfect pop song.If the great Deity in the heavens grants me immortality, I'll still be listening to this in another 40 years!

  51. D.... C....

Never heard of this band until today. I don't think they ever made it in the US, although it was a little before my time. This is an excellent single. Sounds great.

  52. 4.... ....

Marmalade had made the earlier mistake
( at the end of 1967 ) of rejecting `Everlasting Love` as they said it was too pop orientated . It was then recorded by Love Affair and hit #1 in the UK early in 1968. Then later in 1968 they recorded Ob La Di !!

  53. p.... ....

It got to No. 30 in the UK charts, entering the charts on 23 October 1968 and remained in the charts for 5 weeks. I always thought it had done better. A great 60s pop song!

  54. B.... G....

Should have been at least top 10!
In my own personal charts at the time it was number one, of course :)

  55. D.... B....

super song, should have got higher in the charts
