Marling, Laura - Tap At My Window Lyrics
He taps at my window,
Willing that I'll let him in.
I don't think I will though
My heart's taken I won't tell him again.
Maybe I'll wake up lonely and fallen away again
Until you calm me down,
I'll race around this town.
Trying to find
Oh an emotion you cannot deny.
I will not have him treat me this way.
And Mother I blame you with every inch of the being you gave,
For I have become you and I know every part of your game.
I cannot forgive you for bringing me up this way.
Maybe I'll write them a story and maybe I'll fall asleep in his arms.
Maybe I'll wake up lonely and fallen away again
Until you calm me down,
I'll race around this town.
Until you calm me down,
I'll race around this town.
Trying to find
Oh an emotion you cannot deny.
I will not have them treat me this way.
So tap at my window
Maybe I might let you in.
I don't think I will though
My heart's taken I won't tell you again.

LEGENDARY
this song is gorgeous
the voice she has is very haunting
This is a major artist. The...sounds like Dylan critics....get lost! Dylan sounded like....many...& progressed,... brilliantly. It's Music!
2:36 that's her smoking a bong at the end, flicking the lighter and giggling
Maybe it's homage to Bob Dylan. If I put the idea of plagiarism out of my mind and think of it as a tribute then I can like it I guess. I like it, it's cool. Maybe. I don't know I'm conflicted.
Yah it's Lay Lady Lay that was my first thought.
I don`t smoke ;-) but the picture is amazing (no need to discuss the song)
Such a beautiful melody.
lovely as always
Sounds like a Bob Dylan song.
"Karl Culley, Silver Set of Bones"....aaall I'm saying!
i love her... true story...
Lady lay lay
I don't think you understand how dangerous smoke can be. My mother died of cancer eight days ago, and you'd better be kinder to other people, because you never know what their feelings may be. Also, there are many pictures of Laura smoking cigarettes, so you don't need to teach me how to roll, I've seen enough of that. I would just be sorry if Laura got sick, is it so hard to understand? I hope you will never have to cry as many tears as I am crying in these days. Good night.
And she is a grown woman, your opinion doesn't matter. Do what thou wilt.
my fav!
The dylan reference is just being a singer/songwriter acoustic folkie....a little unfair on a young woman who channels her inspirations surprisingly well though.
no problem lol i was just listening to it before i started going through all of laura's songs
YESSS!!!! OMG!!!!! thankyou haha that was driving me insane for a while! :P
lay lady lay by bob dylan perhaps?
the background music reminds me of an older song by someone.... shit i duuno what one... anyone know what i mean? (especially in the begin)
Toothpaste kisses by the maccabees is what it reminds me a bit of they are both lovely songs xx
It is not stupid: smoking is stupid. I love Laura and what she does, belive me I adore her! But she smokes, and that makes me sad. I my heart I sometimes hope that she will give it up; so if I'm that concerned, I wouldn't describe ''stupid'' a person who wonders weather she smokes or not... besides, the picture doesn't help. The true disappontment is seeing so many people smoking and then crying and dying of cancer in 2012. Think about that, how stupid that is.
smoking is bad
16 Laura's incredible
ugg shes much too pretty to be smoking..
Amazing song
the best folk
She's 22
this song must have the biggest likes to dislike ratio on youtube
Just found this song 3 days ago, and I swear I've listened to it at least 20 times....
Lay upon your big brass bed...
dddhhhhoooohhhho Maccabees........Toothpaste Kisses ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Beautiful xxxxxxxx
@deadlymist666 oh my! her voice is in an entirely different league to Dido in terms of soul and tone, in my opinion.
i love this type of music because it has so much meaning rather then trying to be like any other typical pop kind of song!
Is similar to the Dido's voice :)
I think I have found my obsession for 2012
2019 how re u ?
So this is what luna lovegood looks like when she grows up
Been trying to find out who sang this song since like forever. So glad I have because she is Amazing! <3
What a cool kid... She's just Mmmmmm
knowing how young laura was when she started inspires me to think if i started now, and tried hard, hard as she tried, i could be something like what she is now. that would be just amazing.
lay lady lay... at the begining
@JHDELIVERY22 that's doesn't matter, if she's 40 it would be good at the same way
the beginning reminds me so of bob dylan's 'lay lady lay' :D already love it!
@CarlaWarlaWhoreXD I think she smokes. I've seen several pictures of her smoking. And beside, her voice was much more "younger" kind of in really old records. And smoking does kind of "darken" your voice, if you know what I mean. But I'm not entirely sure though.
so so so beautifuul <3
My new fav song!
does she smoke or is that just the picture? shes so fricking cool already
Lay lady lay intro?
@skipnie pun? haha
Very dissapointing, you listen to a brilliant song and all you can think about is if someone smokes or not. How stupid can you be?
A good artist or writer can paint an elaborate picture in your mind with their words.
very disappointing that she smokes. love her music but how stupid can you be?
@SoIncrediblyHigh Yum, lung cancer
My favourite song by her. ♥
She smokes?? :-(
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. SHE NEEDS TO STOP SMOKING. RIGHT NOW. RIGHT THIS VERY INSTANT.
UNCORE :D!
This song is like...a glass of water in the middle of the desert.
Many more people should know of her!! Thank you for sharing this bit of the lovely with us all. :)
she's been writing her songs since she was 15 and then bieber takes all the acclaim.... BUMMER !
@fletchers4 I wouldn't be so harsh lol She is good though. I just wish she would stop all this self-indulgent boy girl emotional rambling and look out and not in...
In a way I wish she were more like Dylan lol
She's only like 20 or 21, what a talent :)
@Alexse13 that's not true. it does fuck up your vocal chords (they become inflamed, dry and can form pollyps - not to mention the fact that it severely effects lung function which is directly related to voice) inhaling cigarette smoke through your nose paralyzes the hairs that filter the air you breath, for 24 hours), but it doesn't necessarily fuck up your "voice" depending on the sound you're looking for. personally i would love to have the "voice" of a smoker, but am too wary of the effects.
@Elijah2x OMG i was listening to the intro repeatedly trying to figure it out, thinking, "i've never listened to this song before - why do i know it??"
hm...
The laugh at 2:42 is kind of creepy...
WHAT- this is amazing. Bet u like Justin Beiber.
@cirfia Nat King Cole smoked - he believed it kept his voice dark, husky, smooth or the like... however, i think he died of lung cancer..
@cirfia constant sing can fuck up a voice, smoke might, but i think that sideeffect of somking is the lest of any somkers concern ;)
@Elijah2x wow i can't believe i never noticed the similarities before now.
Isn't this Lay Lady Lay???
she smokes?? wont that fuck up her voice??
@96marzie cannot swim, i think
is from 'alas i cannot swim' or 'i speak because i can'???
i love this song :) thanks for posting! :)
