So many people praise Mariah , but where are they when she put her album out. She has written and release many songs that deserve to be No. 1

Doesn’t the song have to be put out as a single in order for it to go to number one? This one was never released as a single she just sang it in the Rosie Odonell show and in her concerts at the time. Mariah’s label at the time decided what singles to release she complained about it many times that she would’ve liked songs like “Underneath The Stars” to have gotten released as singles. Sony wanted to release very specific songs that were the typical “Mariah” song like a love ballad or pop hit like “Fantasy” they didn’t wanna risk it and mess with the formula cause they wanted hit after hit. At least today we as fans have more input with YouTube and social media as to what gets released and the artist has way more control over that.

Over its 20-year run this song has saved my life.. A few times. Through abuse, through heartbreak, through illness it's been the soundtrack to my life. When you're faced with overwhelming feelings and feeling like there's no escape, then you hear a song and you for a moment you feel not so alone, and that there is one person out there that has gone through these same emotions and has come out OK... That's power. Last year I got the lyrics "As I close my eyes" tattooed on my arm and it reminds me everyday that I can make it through.

Mariah never said that, she just credited Minnie for inspiring her as she fully respects any other Legend or artist who came before her, same with Aretha Franklin. And even if she said that, well, we all know that Mariah could sing Minnie under the table and also about whistle, Mariah has more range, versatility, different textures, creativity and musicality than Minnie so, Minnie was incredible (probably a Legend) but Mariah vocally and artistically comes first!
