Manilow, Barry - Read 'Em And Weep Lyrics

I remember reading that Barry took a copy of this video to MTV back in 1983 and they all but laughed him out of their office because of who he was. The video did get airplay on Friday Night Videos and other shows and eventually on VH-1 back when it played more easy listening content.

Just recently found out about Manilow singing this song back in the early 80's. Must have missed it or was overshadowed by Meatloaf's version. Both good renditions.

How did I miss this moving gem from the early 80s? At least I've found it now. The timber of Barry's voice lends beautifully to the song. This begs for a remake...Adele?

So lovely. Remember when I slow danced to his songs on the juke box at the Hawaiian Lounge in Rock Island in the 70s.

It was May or June 1984, it was my senior year, me and my girlfriend were standing by my car in front of her school, she was was soon going to move to another country, and someone played this song and we started crying and kissing. It was burned in my mind ever since.

Surprised in the comments....I find Meat Loaf's version better. Don't get me wrong. This is great. But no one can do richness and emotion like Meat Loaf. His semi-operatic, yet gritty voice will always get me with it's intensity. Sorry bud. But that's just my opinion anyways.

This is Barry's best song by a long shot, and it's a pity it has been totally forgotten. On the other hand Manilow's theatrics in this video are almost a parody, he should have received some acting lessons first.

its august 2018 and I still love this song as much as I did when it was first released,i always thought that jim Steinman and meatloaf were the perfect match but I have to admit that for me barry manilows version is far superior to meatloafs just as pandoras box version of the future aint what it used to be was much better than meatloafs
