Manilow, Barry - Baby, It's Cold Outside Lyrics

Well honeybunch
It's been fun
But gotta run
Oh sweetlips
Stay a little while longer won't you
No it's very late baby
I really got to go
But look at the weather
You'll catch cold out there
And I would never forgive myself
Oh you
Come on just one more night cap
No I shouldn't
Come on

No well
I really can't stay
But baby it's cold outside
I got to go away
But baby it's cold outside
This evening has been
And hoping that you drop in
So very nice
I'll hold your hands
There just like ice
My mother will start to worry
Beautiful what's your hurry
And father will be pacing the floor
Listen to the fireplace roar
So really I better scurry
Beautiful please don't go
Well maybe just a half drink more
Put some records on while I pour
The neighbors might think
But baby it's bad out there
Say, what's in this drink
No cabs to be had out there
I wish I knew how
Your eyes are like stars tonight
To break this spell
I'll take your hat
Your hair looks swell
I oughta say no no no sir
Mind if I move in closer
At least I'm gonna say that I tried
What's the sense of hurting my pride
I really can't stay
Baby don't hold on
Ah but it's cold outside

Well I must say
This couch is very comfortable
It's not a couch puddin' pop
It's a love seat
Oh how you talk
Oh Barry
I simply must go

But baby it's cold outside
The answer is no
But baby it's cold outside
The welcome has been
How lucky that you dropped in
So nice and warm
Look out the window
At that storm
My sister will be suspicious
Gosh your lips look good
My brother will be there at the door
Like waves upon a tropical storm
My maiden aunt's mind is vicious
Gosh your lips are delicious
Well maybe just a cigarrette more
Never said your blues will be for
I've got to get home
But baby you'll freeze out there
Say darling can you lend me your comb
It's up to your knees out there
You really been grand
I thrill when you touch my hand
But don't you see
How can you do this thing to me
There's bound to be talk tomorrow
Think of my life long sorrow
At least there will be plenty in life
If you caught pneumonia and died
I really can't stay
Get over that hold out
Ah but it's cold outside

Well I don't know
I don't got to go home
Hey look it's starting to snow
Oh you arranged that didn't you?
See now you gotta stay
Well, I guess I won't be able to find a cab
No cabs
And the buses they never run
They'll never run in snow like this
Let me take your coat
Well tomorrow is Sunday isn't it?
And I don't have to go to work
See isn't that better
And who knows how long it will keep snowing
It can snow for a long time, Kate
What are you doing?
Well now yeah

Manilow, Barry Baby, It's Cold Outside Comments
  1. M.... J....

Too bad Barry was thinking of a man when he sung this.

  2. J.... B....

This was one of my favorites from all of Barry Banilow's "Complete Collection and Then Some". That and also the song A LittleTraveling Music, Please... https://youtu.be/Tn4u8PlFas4

"I must say this couch is very comfortable." "It's not a couch -- it's a Love Seat"
It's quarter to two, there's no one in the place except me and you and Siriusly Sinatra satellite radio just played my favorite version of Frank (Guys & Dolls) Loesser's best-known seasonal song, BABY, IT'S COLD OUTSIDE.

What makes this one my all-time favorite (James Taylor & Natalie Cole's version is a close second) – what makes this one the best is the female duet partner for Barry Manilow – Country singer K.T. Oslin. It's been so long since I heard this recording, I confess I was racking my brain to think of her name and -- behold! the answer to a prayer, this night on Siriusly Sinatra.

Their repartee is the wittiest of any pairing for this great song, composed in an afternoon (words & music) by Frank Loesser, and performed later that day with his wife, at a party. He was a heavy smoker, and that claimed his life at an early age. Did I mention that this song brought him his only “Best Original Song” Academy Award in an Esther Williams musical film, “Neptune's Daughter.” Well it did. Frank would have loved hearing this version. The orchestration is the very essence of 'warm' (and let's stay inside tonight)

    [Thanks, Alexandra Tumbas for posting!]

I love this song, especially this version. People, she wants to stay.

  7. K.... M....

I love Dino's version of this tune, but Barry not only nailed it, he knocked it out of the park! Slow, sexy, and totally subtle. I love the extra story playing inside the story--it adds a new dimension to the lyrics. I can see this totally playing out in my head.

  8. J.... Y....

Its Not A Couch Puddin Pop Its A Loooove Seat :P

  15. E.... E....

I've heard multiple versions of this song but I must say that this for me is the best. It's so sexy, the slow dialogue, everything about this recording was just right.

  17. 2.... ....

Absolutely loved this thought I was in it.  Just Beautiful.

  18. J.... B....

this is absolutely my favorite version of this song! Love the jazzy flavor they give it and the voices blend perfectly!

  19. E.... R....

Really love this song, best version and very romantic.

  20. T.... ....

This is my favorite rendition of this song!!

    T.... ....

    Mine too!

  21. J.... ....

My favorite version, this can't be beat!

  22. 1.... ....

imo, this is the best version of this song. and i've heard plenty. go barry!

  23. b.... ....

i love this.....i thought manilow was as queer as a 3 dollars bill

  24. S.... ....

they did not hve ruffies in the 1940 ths song is not about rape! if you think so your fucked in the head! some peoples children...

  25. S.... ....

i didnt know who did thid virsion this one ifs my fav iv been looking for a while now

  26. M.... Y....

I believe it was originally recorded by Dean Martin

    M.... Y....

    No. It's from a movie.

  27. 1.... ....

I'll stay, I'll stay Barry! You only have to ask once!

  28. M.... ....

Makes Barry seem much less gay. Great version.

    M.... ....

I know! I'm like by the end of this song, like fantasizing about him and stuff. lol!!!

  29. D.... ....

Not a Barry Manilo fan, but he and KT own this song!

  30. R.... P....

I would have to say, of all the covers of this song (and most of them have been brilliantly done), this one is by far the best as it is the most seductive...which is the main purpose in my own opinion. They have amazing chemistry here.

  31. s.... ....

Where you put comb it really is coat. Otherwise it doesn't make since with the set of phrases. The original version, back in the 50s , it says coat. They wouldn't change that much of the lyrics.

  32. R.... D....

my favorite version, by far. =]]

  33. j.... ....

This is the version I've been looking for!!!

  34. T.... L....

    i loved this version too...but ella's is my fav...and i like this too...lolol

  35. m.... ....

I have had the same question about this song for the last 2-3 years and it wasn't until this morning when I saw the Barry Manilow & K.T. Oslin version on youtube that the puzzle was solved :-). It is.....without a doubt, them (they even refer to each other by first name in the song).

So many great artists have done this song but this is definitely my favourite version!

  36. H.... ....

The man singing in here is perfect for both this version and the zooey deschanel version - the guy in zooey's version just ruins it in my opinion :(

  37. 2.... ....

This is a great version of the song, I've heard many and this is in my top 2

  38. j.... ....

NOT ELLA!!!! This sounds VERY much like Dinah Shore

  39. N.... ....

As much as I love both Barry Manilow/Kat Olen's & Ella Fitzgerald/Louis Jordan's versions, I would love if you corrected the title so I don't get the wrong when when I come to listen on YouTube ;)

  40. K.... C....

Gosh i looove this song, i can't stop listening to it.

  41. a.... ....

    Barry Manilow & K.T. Oslin

  42. d.... ....

This is definitely not Ella, but I can't exactly figure out who it is exactly. Anyone have any idea?

    d.... ....

drwilco: her name is KT Oslin. She was originally a Broadway actress/singer. Went to Nashville in the 80s and had a short string of respectably-performing hits in country.
She has the perfect voice for this song.

  43. j.... ....

I finally found the version of the song I've been looking for so long. Thanks for uploading it.

    j.... ....

Thank you, everyone. I've always loved this song and it is from my era. At a dinner party the other night, we had quite an argument about it. It was such a relief to read your comments.
