Mandolin Orange - Golden Embers Lyrics

Just like an old friend, kinder than expected
That Cadillac came and gave our girl a ride
Loss has no end, it binds to our connection
We don't speak of it, we don't even try

If you could help me to share the trouble
But you've got burned and then you, then you can help me
And in our time together, her memory will ever
Shine like golden embers in the night

I miss the old hymns when she used to sing
The sparrows spread their mortal wings
Now they've all lighted with the silence of strings
Like notes on the pages, she breathed life into all things

If you could help me to share the trouble
But you've got burned and then you, then you can help me
And in our time together, her memory will ever
Shine like golden embers in the night

Just like an old friend, reach out to me
Bathe me in the light of understanding
Try to help me to share the trouble
But you've got burned and then you, then you can help me
And in our time together, her memory will ever
Shine like golden embers in the night

Their music is like a fresh breath. Music today seems to have lost so much.. it's just noise... but this music is something that touches the heart and soul. Thank you so much... can't get enough .

I am a fan. I moved to Nashville almost 1.5 year ago, I feel like a flood of music has washed over me. I cannot explain it any different than that. It is a sensory feast that I am enjoying.

  7. K.... D....

This song entices my imagination to dance wild and my dreams to dance with the stars. Like the golden embers!

I miss my son so much. Haven't seen him in a month and a half and every day is sadder and sadder. Just needed to say it to somebody. Even if it's random like this. He's my first. Never had these feelings before. God damn.

    D.... D....

Sending strength your way. I'm clueless to the situation at hand but either way may I say .. I dont know you but I do have 3 little boys and I couldnt imagine not seeing them . I hope you have more time with him . if they only knew the love we have for them. 💙💙

I have a 32 year old son, our first born. There were years I did not see or speak with him. We did visit him in MN in August and spoke on Christmas. There is hope and Mandolin's Orange can be helpful. Grace to you whatever your situation w your son is.

Last night I randomly clicked on youtube videos, looking for someone I had never heard of who was a great musician - I found these two righteous souls!!

I awakened this morning, and went to a youtube mix of their songs, so here I am. I'll be listening to these two for the rest of my life - it doesn't get any better. At 64 (next week) I've seen and heard thousands of musicians during my life..these two are a couple of the best musicians I have EVER heard in my life. I'm so grateful to have accidentally found them, and I wonder if there are other amazing musicians out there I don't know about. Of course there are, but I doubt if I'll ever find any that are as talented as these two DEEP souls. Magnificent.........!

what a refreshing break fro commercial crap, pop/rap/hipsnot/fake sax, never ending. we are still a nation of original songs about our culture and faith and virtue

  18. L.... R....

  19. R.... J....

Thanks for a beautiful song. There are gems out there!

  20. L.... M....

What else do you need now that you're old and your body and your soul are so sick? Just your pain and a beautiful sad song like this one...

  21. T.... M....

I listen to their music at least one to two hours a day since I found them, their music is infectious in a great way. By the way I am 60 and have been a hair metal rocker all my life.

  22. M.... g....

its been exactly 1 year since this video launched and 3 years to the day that I last saw the only girl I ever loved. I wish I could see her again, but if it's not meant to be then so be it. I always thought I'd meet someone new that make me feel something similar, but it is not been the case. Now I'm very ill and listening to music like this is my only joy left. Always tell those you care about that you do, you never know how much time you have left.

  23. D.... L....

    Perfect

  24. D.... S....

Listening to Thomas VanZandt posted by a friend this morning. Never heard him before, then onto Kate Wolf, then Nancy Griffith, them either. To you....where have I been?
    Thank you!

  25. R.... S....

Orange music has a euphoric space quality like you get from a good glass of quality wine or particular quality herb, you smoke. The music also has the feel Joni Mitchell's music with a Carolina countryness. The music is fresh great.

  26. C.... M....

    Stunning, love this!

  27. M.... S....

there is something so soothing and at the same time haunting about Mandolin Orange I just keep coming back to them... thank you!

  28. p.... ....

These two do so much combined good, I just wanna run laps around them like an idiot to celebrate their beauty. I wish them and their wee one the best!

  29. B.... M....

Seeing you tonight at the Schubert Theater in Boston! Can't wait!!

  30. m.... s....

I'm crying my eyes out. What a beautiful song.

I'm really suicidal at the moment and music is getting me through.

Thank you for such beautiful music.

    Om Shanti. xx

    m.... s....

I hope you’re in a better space. It is beautiful isn’t it?

    m.... s....

@Jamie Kroll Very beautiful. No. In a very bad space.

    m.... s....

@mw stuntz please be ok, stay among us. love

    m.... s....

Sometimes we find things when we need them most in life. Like you finding this song and having the courage to share what you're going through in this moment. I rarely reply to comments but yours spoke to me so I'm acknowledging that by responding. Be strong, find a reason everyday to live, find something to make you smile, a song, kids playing, birds, dogs anything. What we are all going through here isn't nothing it's very big and we all need to get through it. Stay strong, don't ignore the things you find or the things that find you, they're meant for you. I personally believe those are signs or gifts to let us know there's more. Just give it a try, be receptive and open to this idea and see how many things come to you. Never forget to give back what you can. I wish you the best on your journey my friend.

    m.... s....

@GAT I haven't got that strength any more. I'm a total mess. :( I'm covered in scars and cuts.

  31. D.... ....

    JUST WONDERFUL!

  32. a.... ....

RIP Ed Brannan and Justin Peever. You are so loved and so missed. 21 years ago today. Seems so impossible.

  33. a.... a....

  36. J.... B....

When they made their first appearance at Grey Fox this July, many fans were waiting eagerly, and not disappointed. Most simply put, these folks are just so natural, low pressure, with good things to say. (They made some new fans.)

  37. s.... ....

    Frisson!!

  38. C.... B....

Their voices were made for each other!

    C.... B....

So true. It's hard to choose which voice is more moving...

  39. g.... ....

Les voix sont en harmonie. le violon respire le bon vieux temps. La mélodie plonge dans les souvenirs. J'ecoute ce morceau sans fin

  40. G.... B....

    His voice. Unreal.

Thank you NY Times for recommendation. Beautiful.

  47. L.... M....

This is beautiful! But almost couldn't watch it because of the "Epoch Times" ad, some of which had to be endured before getting to the music. You might want to "de-monetize" this video.

    L.... M....

The song is beautiful, but the add is terrible!!!

  48. s.... a....

such a beautiful mixture of talent i cant get enough im gonna see them next month in buffalo ny cant wait ya'll

  49. M.... C....

Happened upon this by chance a couple of days ago. So glad I did. Working my way through the back catalogue and really liking what I am hearing. Such a contrast to the dross that counts as music that is the mainstay of MTV and the like. this track is wonderful and a personal tribute that many can relate to. Really hope that they come on a UK tour.

  50. m.... 3....

Im glad this was recommended for me.. wow. Just wow.

  70. J.... E....

I kept seeing Mandolin Orange pop up in my list of things to watch. Took me a few days to actually watch a video since I am usually apprehensive about new stuff. Anyways, took the leap.

I have one word for this. Beautiful.

Incredible greetings from Dublin Ireland brother and sisters We love singer-songwriter beautiful spirit's HERE

  72. J.... F....

Love the song, the violin and guitar, amazing! But the addition of whatever those other musicians are playing is so unnecessary and strange.

  73. u.... ....

People who say there is no good music anymore...they are just not looking and listening. Make an effort.

    u.... ....

@danger stranger Same.....good stuff! We get older and it's so different trying to find good music nowadays.

    u.... ....

Same! Mandolin also played locally in my small southern Oregon town for only $25 and I jumped on it. Now I've seen them live 4x officially and plan on more!

    u.... ....

@Dustin A. dang I live in Cottage Grove and missed that .......WHY! WHY!

    u.... ....

I've just followed my ears and enjoyed the ride.

  74. K.... F....

Had to pause it many times.. Thought she was singing in her underwear.. Lol just a shadow

  75. T.... M....

    Beautiful!

  76. D.... H....

I have a fourteen-year-old son, who like his mom, is very opinionated about music. We take turns in the car and he is going through a phase of music that I don't care for, and he's not crazy about my bluegrass either. I was in a bad mood one day and it was his turn to control the music. He was playing Korn and a bunch of stuff like that, then he put this song on for me without being asked and it was an elixir. I felt my shoulders relax and I was grateful. It was one of the most loving moments I can remember. This song will forever make me think of my relationship with my son.

    D.... H....

One day you can return the favor for him. We all need to head bang once in while don't we?

  77. J.... P....

The type of music that can make u be at peace

  78. s.... w....

My mother passed away in May this year. Reminds me of her 😢

  79. L.... T....

I especially enjoyed Tormund Giant's-Bane & Tormund Giant's-bane on drums and bass.

    L.... T....

    Luke Tornabene hilarious

  80. A.... R....

Why this have dislikes...I know we have to respect different opinions but I dont go to bands that I don't like and dislike them I just simply dont waste my time...insane how people dislike art like this

  81. D.... R....

Love this song! Makes me cry. I don't know how you manage to sing it without tearing up. Beautiful. Thank you.

  82. E.... Q....

I once moaned, like others, that "They don't make music like they used to" - but I was wrong. The likes of Lera Lynn, Peter Bradley Adams, Caitlin Canty, Dylan LeBlanc, I'm With Her, Darlingside, Shovels and Rope, John Paul White and nearly everything produced by Joshua Grange at Resistor are the new generation that extend beyond the folk-rock-blues-country geniuses of the 60s and early 70s. Mandolin Orange sits at the top of that list.

  83. r.... l....

Such beautiful and meaningful music like this floats way above the din of the garbage that passes for music these days. Almost everyone who posted here was stirred by the song myself included. Thank you, kids for this gift. Music and poetry should always evoke some kind of thought and feeling.

  84. B.... M....

Such a wonderful group! I listen to this song at least once a day...it always calms me.

  85. V.... C....

I spent my life making money. It means nothing. To be young again and living life like Mandolin Orange is self actualization.

  86. M.... ....

Really like Mandolin Orange! Unique voices and great musicianship!

  87. M.... A....

    wow... thank you.

  88. .... ....

  91. C.... M....

I could listen to her play the violin forever

  92. j.... s....

man they are really good, really good!

  93. C.... G....

I love this song and its tune, the dissonant behind and particular feelings input. Derriere there is a kind of benevolence and humanity. Once again, well done Mandolin Orange.

  94. s.... 4....

They play perfectly together. Wells done.

  95. s.... w....

Really touches my heart. Lost my oldest brother and my mother this year.

  96. G.... H....

    Beautiful

  97. C.... S....

Truly beautiful. Thanks for this lovely melody; and thanks to all those here who shared your tales of loss and grief. I too have lost my parents some time ago, but their memory is always with me. God bless you all, 🙏.

  98. M.... W....

I love country music for the story telling, and when you find someone who can tell it like this it's special
