Lupe Fiasco - Jonylah Forever Lyrics

You live

[Verse 1]
How bout them bullets ain't slow you up
You ain't really die and we watched you grow up
At twelve months you took ya first steps
Awkwardly across the kitchen floor to your best
Your first breaths that we can call words
In ya fathers lap on November 23rd
And They were "live for me" and he did for you
Flipped to neutron and stayed inside the crib for you
And this commitment from ya father imparted a deep sense of value you'd forever harbor
And we were all so proud as we seen you gettin' smarter
And the bond grow deeper between a mother and a daughter
Cause you were not a martyr

[Verse 2]
At six you started reading whole books
At seven you knew how a brain looked
And could roughly describe all the different regions
Could tell when we were sick and even knew the reason
The world wasn't at peace
Gunfire every weekend
But you were hardly there
Cause you was always leaving
Field museum planetarium aquarium
You saw something special in that tank you were starin' in
And in those moments as a little girl you realized it was a bigger world
Bigger than the southside
Bigger than Chicago
And you were bigger but still wanted on rims on ya car though
And big ass woofers in ya car door
So you could wang like ya daddy at the park eating sharks
Went to King where you were teased for being smart
Where you bumped into Hadiya teaching art.
You Live forever

[Verse 3]
At sixteen is when you got you scholarship
At twenty-two is when you got ya doctorate
Even now it's kinda hard to believe
But ya father taught you work hard and achieve
And you complied
Accepted by every medical school you applied
But the coolest thing is when they offered you that high paying slot you replied
"They need me in the hood" and that's where you reside
Free clinic, nobody denied
And that's where you heard the shots and quickly ran outside
And saw a man and van and a bleeding baby in his hands
Fading fast but you knew she could survive
Did everything you could to keep this girl alive
Stabilized until the ambulance arrived
And In that moment where you gave your help, bet you didn't know that you saved yourself

You live forever
Lord have mercy

  18. M.... M....

    Came here after Nipsey’s death.
    The cycle just never ends...

  19. F.... J....

Its crazy that this song is 6+ years old and it barley got officially announced on this album

  20. V.... ....

    Hauntingly beautiful. Thank you, Lupe.

  21. n.... ....

This is rap! Telling a story and being able have the listener feel the emotions put in the lyrics

  22. P.... 2....

Lupe is the G.O.A.T... excluding nobody

  23. K.... R....

God bless all the workers in the free clinics who made it their choice to serve the underserved.

  24. S.... D....

This song is chilling, Lupe is without a doubt a lyrical genius, a masterful storyteller and an outstanding person. Congratulations Lupe you have transcended a genre.
R.I.P Jonylah you live forever in not only the hearts of your family, but also in the hearts of everyone touched by your story and this song.

  25. H.... T....

And in that moment where you gave your help
I bet you didn't know that you saved yourself

  26. S.... ....

    Lupe the GOAT

  27. G.... ....

If you know the story behind this song and dont tear up when you hear this song, you have no soul and should seek help

    G.... ....

that and being a new dad with a daughter basically makes this impossible to finish dry lol

    G.... ....

What if we understand the song and feel the deep emotions but don't cry because we rarely do yet still have remorse?

    G.... ....

You can't get a soul by seeking help ,

  28. J.... R....

    You live- Forever.

  29. M.... D....

    Call Jonylah say

  30. G.... W....

I literally fucking can't like even like holy shit I mean like who seriously compares. WTF IM CLOSE TO TEARS

  31. J.... ....

    cant stop crying

    J.... ....

Literally this song never hit me so deep till now when I looked up who she was even seeing that beautiful baby brought me to tears!😭😭😭

  32. C.... R....

    Beautiful song

  33. W.... U....

KNEW this was a sample from the Dark movie on Netflix

  34. S.... P....

This is why I love Lupe. His storytelling ability is so strong and so deep that if I close my eyes I can visualize the entire story through his lyrics. The Instrumental, Little Weapon, Fighters, Streets on Fire, Hip Hop Saved My Life, and Intruder Alert all do it for me.

    S.... P....

I heard this for the first time last week. Daughter was born last year and this just hit so hard for me, and basically impossible to get to the end without either choking up or more every single time.

    S.... P....

What about the cool? I always see visions every time I listen to it

  35. L.... B....

    This song is magnificent.

  36. M.... &....

Lupe can make you hate mankind for taking innocent souls away. This and Alan hurt my feelings. Brilliance

    M.... &....

Mr & Mrs Plummer How can you hate mankind if people like Lupe are part of it? Lol

  37. L.... L....

Ayee anybody seen that show dark on Netflix? The song he sampled is the theme song. And it's in breaking bad

  38. M.... I....

real ones kno this song is 5 years old

    M.... I....

But Lupe keeps bringing it back. Jonylah Forever

    M.... I....

Just came here and was thinking “I swear this came out waaaaaay earlier”.. flipped a neutron and stayed inside the crib for you..

  39. H.... S....

    Shit made me cry

  40. I.... M....

Check out Infinite Marvelous aka INF MAN

  41. Y.... K....

    Her folks heard this song

    Y.... K....

    How do you know that.

    Y.... K....

    @Johnathan Adams they did

    Y.... K....

QUENTIN30 CDUB but how do u know

  42. L.... T....

Favorite song on the album, the story telling and of course lyrical complexity, this album is undoubtedly my favorite of his catalog.

  43. B.... B....

He knows we reincarnate. He is intelligent

    B.... B....

@BIGMrighthere How is that even possible

    B.... B....

    Are you talking ego death

    B.... B....

If there wasn't any form or concept of death related to the meaning then it wouldn't be resurrection by definition basically yea.

    B.... B....

Reincarnation = Soul, Resurrection = Body. Both from the same origin regarding the life, but that just usually simplified it for me without going into it too much. My opinion at least

    B.... B....

I love to see constructive and respectful debates about knowledge on youtube. Not once did you all revert to namecalling or ridicule. Bless you all

  44. J.... S....

Wonderful song and album. Shout out to Apparat (Goodbye) as they were sampled for this. Their album The Devil's Walk is amazing as well.

  45. 2.... ....

Spray paint and ink pens, I use.....

    2.... ....

to write every color I speak in!! I knew this song reminded me of something fuck yes

  46. P.... J....

    Holy shit this is talent

    P.... J....

Even more passion and hard work.

  47. L.... M....

This entire song is an extended metaphor for the unlived life of Jonylah Watkins. Although she passed away in a tragic shooting, Lupe is telling her “story” in an alternate reality.
In reality, Jonylah’s father, Jonathan Watkins, had been changing her diaper in the front passenger seat of a minivan when a gunman approached them and opened fire.
In this alternate reality, her father ends up bringing her to the hospital, only for her to save “herself”.
By doing this, the little girl could grow up and do the same things that Jonylah did in Lupe’s alternate reality.

    L.... M....

Yeah I did my research, the whole situation is heart wrenching, he did her and her family right with this song.

    L.... M....

R.i.p. baby girl I know the family and this child he's rapping about

  48. S.... ....

essa música é de 5 anos atrás, música boa não envelhece, bicho. E as novas do album estão incríveis, o álbum todo está!

  49. A.... C....

Lupe so underrated he isn't even in people's discussion for most underrated. The G.O.A.T, Lupe Fiasco.

    A.... C....

I honestly forgot about him until I started listening older music

  50. J.... R....

This is sampled from the intro to the Netflix series Dark.

  51. t.... p....

    R.I.P lil baby 😭

  52. F.... F....

    This is heart touching

  53. T.... K....

    Anyone watch dark?

    T.... K....

Yes I do love it. Poor Mikkel.

  54. T.... ....

    any breaking bad fans here

    T.... ....

TDE yes! Knew it sounded familiar as soon as I heard it.

    T.... ....

    Which episode

    T.... ....

    @Qua 817 season 4 episode 13 time 33:41

    T.... ....

Yea the Gustavo fren walk to the hospital. And it's from the series DARK which is immaculate

  55. G.... ....

Song is fire. Basically that last verse, he brings a grown up Jonylah back to the scene of her murder, but in that moment, she actually saves her younger self. Get em lupe, they not ready.

  56. T.... ....

    This song is old AF

    T.... ....

    "You live"

Just when I forgot this song and story, Lupe brings it back to life. I have a feeling he is never going to let us forget.

  57. A.... ....

For anyone wondering this samples Apparat - Goodbye

    A.... ....

    Thank you

    A.... ....

    Yea.great show

    A.... ....

    Thank you~

    A.... ....

    @Elizabeth Garcia DARK

  58. U.... ....

Yup... New Lupe... I'm buying it

    U.... ....

    This song is years old...

    U.... ....

    5 years old

    U.... ....

@TheBeLuvdTRex listen to the album and you might know why it on here...

    U.... ....

@Aaron Dyer Yeah filler content but regardless this song as well as the album is the most fire Lupe has had in a good while. Cheers.

    U.... ....

@TheBeLuvdTRex alot of these songs on this album are old. Alan Forever, Haile Selassie, Stack That Cheese and even WAV Files were recorded years ago. If you call those songs filler songs, they're much better songs than most "hit" singles from rappers today

Edit: Majority of this album was recorded years ago now that I think about it. Just cause you release something doesn't mean you just did it. It means you just released it!!!
