Lumineers, The - Boots Of Spanish Leather Lyrics

Oh, I'm sailing away my own true love
I'm sailing away in the morning
Is there something I can sing you from across the sea?
From the place where I'll be landing

No, there's nothing you can send me, my own true love
There's nothing I'm wishing to be owning
Just to carry your sail back to me unspoiled
From across that lonesome ocean

I just thought you might want something fine
Made of silver or of golden
Either from the mountains of Madrid
Or from the coast of Barcelona

And if I had the stars of the darkest night
Or the diamonds from the deepest ocean
I'd forsake them all for your sweet kiss
Oh, that's all I'm wishing to be owning

And I might be gone a long, long time
And it's only this I'm asking
Is there something I can send you to remember me by
To make your time more easy passing?

Oh how can, how can you ask me this?
What only brings me sorrow
The same thing would I want today
I would want again tomorrow

I got a letter on a lonesome day
It was from her ship a-sailing
Saying I don't know when I'll be coming back again
It depends on how I'm feeling

Well if you, my love, must think that way
And I'm sure your mind is roaming
And I'm sure your heart is not with me
With the country to where you're going

So take heed, take heed of the western wind
Take heed of the stormy weather
And yes, there's something you can send back to me

Lumineers, The Boots Of Spanish Leather Comments
  1. A.... E....

    this is my favorite cover.

  2. K.... P....

While this is a great version, there is something mysterious about the nature of dylan's voice that makes the original win out in spite of the comparatively better vocal chops here.

  3. K.... Z....

    I love ur voice

  4. D.... B....

    This song sucks

  5. H.... ....

Nice voice, but poor rhythm. Bob still did it best

  6. H.... J....

i would die of happiness if you guys cover mr. tambourine man❤

    H.... J....

    SJ ELF promise surely...

  7. .... E....

i'm happy that i've found this again after three years. the song shows me that i still have the same feelings both for the same person and the song

  8. s.... ....

  20. c.... ....

What a breathtaking cover of an epic song. The Lumineers... You have done it again ❤️

  21. T.... G....

Probably one of the best covers of a Bob Dylan song ever.

  22. p.... ....

anyone else bothered by the fact he is slightly flat on most of the high notes? Why not just lower the key a notch and hit every note correctly?

  23. J.... H....

I do like the Lumineers....but not crazy about this cover. Mandolin Orange did it better.

  24. A.... A....

    brilliant!!!!!!!!

  25. M.... S....

Nic jones does the best version of this song, no contest

  26. E.... S....

this is so so soooo goood

  27. L.... M....

    This song is amazing

  28. E.... N....

So in love with his voice

  29. P.... M....

    pleeeeease sing more dylan songs

  30. S.... P....

Mandolin Orange version is the best.

  31. 2.... ....

Lovely. Great cover of a great song. Dylan pines for Suze; she's in Italy doing Art. 1962; imagine - no internet and dodgy phonelines. Man's gotta get his emotions out; his feelings. Beautiful.

  32. E.... K....

:'( My dad loves this song<3 Before he turned to to drugs, Dylan was our favorite pass time... I could barley listen to this song without crying

  33. L.... E....

    Best version...ever.

  34. C.... D....

    FUCK YOU

  35. E.... F....

    Absolutely shivering beauty

  36. D.... ....

    what lovly cover

  37. D.... G....

Fight with your wife as your daughter lays sideways, its hard to give a hug when you need one, so you take in a breath to forget about what it was you've been fightin' about.

  38. s.... 4....

    Well done.

  39. .... K....

I don't even know what to feel, I am just listening nothing more

  40. p.... ....

    225 people don't deserve ears

  41. a.... c....

pain an suffering something mostly men write about with ease ..

  42. J.... W....

This song is a raw metaphor for all significant relationships and what happens when we make decisions at odds with that bond. The lyrics portray the pain of this conflict yet end in a suggestion of hope: despite the hurt and gulf between them, love abides.

I may like this version better than Dylan's; the lyrics are clear and open for digestion and interpretation. I love Bobby D, but this cover may rival the original.

  43. P.... C....

This song is wonderful u.u .

  44. 1.... m....

I honestly don't know how anyone could dislike this - absolutely beautiful this was.

  45. D.... F....

I love Bob Dylan, and although I enjoy the original more I think this is one of the best Dylan covers. Up there with Jimi's All Along the Watchtower.

  46. C.... ....

Only a true asshole would cover this great song............ have some humility

    C.... ....

What in the actual fuck is wrong with you?

  47. J.... ....

    holy reverb

  48. J.... M....

I love the Lumineers, but this cover sucks. Can barely hear the guitar.

    J.... M....

    Jorge Martinez this cover sucks....yeah

    J.... M....

    plug in your headphones

  49. s.... ....

    great cover

  50. M.... G....

Oh Wes. You never cease to amaze me❤️

  52. J.... R....

does anyone know what chords they use or a good website that has the exact same guitar chords as they're playing here?

  53. R.... ....

I love Dylan and never heard of this guy but amazing cover!

    R.... ....

Rory maher he's the singer in the band the lumineers, you should look em up

    R.... ....

Definitely. Never stop finding great new artists...

  54. J.... H....

glad to see respect.this band has credibility

  55. S.... S....

    do more Dylan, please <3

  56. M.... W....

Nancy Griffith also did a cover of this (it's my favorite version), but this one's excellent as well! Love the Lumineer's sound!

    M.... W....

Have you seen Mandolin Orange's version?

  57. J.... W....

amazing cover of an amazing story by a great song writer

    J.... W....

    Jay W mhh

  58. p.... w....

Great cover but I hope a serious artist isnt using beats by dre :(

    p.... w....

Why what's wrong with them? You don't think Dylan is what you call "serious"? Come on it doesn't matter what he's wearing because he makes good music. And obviously you still listening to him.

    p.... w....

youre an idiot along with the last person that made a statemwnt like this

    p.... w....

I still stand by this, dummy

  59. L.... ....

I don't really get why a serious artist would use beats by dr. dre. Dylan would not approve that..

    L.... ....

I am most definitely not joking. I'm no headphone expert but I enjoyed the beats I did have a few years back. Bob Dylan is a wonderful artist/musician and so is the almighty Dr. Dre. Both pioneers in their respected fields. Widen your horizons, music of all forms can be beautiful and Dre made some masterpieces.

    L.... ....

    does that really matter??

    L.... ....

I think its because he is from a time just like us where nothing is sacred.

    L.... ....

    Laurensnl o

    L.... ....

jordan beats are shit mate they are overpriced.

  60. A.... S....

    SUCH A GOOD COVER

  61. K.... L....

Dylan gets the whiny, whispery, neo-folk treatment. Good playing, but the aesthetic of about 90% of this neo-folk stuff is soft, plushy garbage. No hard edges, no grit, no evidence of working class authenticity. The Mandolin Orange cover is about a million times better honestly.

    K.... L....

Was going to disagree with you

Listened to the mandolin orange cover

    Cannot disagree with you

    K.... L....

    music's not a contest.

    K.... L....

The role of the critic is important. Not all music is created equal. When everything is considered great, then nothing is.

    K.... L....

No it's not, yes it is and it doesn't need to be great to all to be great to one.
I love hearing your critique of what works and what doesn't for you. I love that you're pointing me towards other artists but get so tired of hearing which version of something is 'best' which performance 'wins'.

    K.... L....

Critics have rarely ever created anything themselves

  62. A.... M....

Wes really makes this Dylan song come alive, and you can understand the words :)

  63. T.... W....

    Great cover

  64. S.... M....

    perfect

  65. B.... W....

this is the type of song that you could never possibly in a million years get tired of 🎵🔄 love this song 👌

    B.... W....

it falters horribly in the face of the original, sorry folks

    B.... W....

I truly hope that someday you will feel music, rather than simply hearing it.

    B.... W....

The Faux Fox there's always gotta be one pretentious music snob dipshit in the world to smack talk a good cover song...

  66. S.... C....

Brilliant cover, in my opinion better than the original! I wish it were on Spotify!!

    S.... C....

+Seb Cawley Better than the original? I really think you need to re-listen to the original.

    S.... C....

+softail springer Because God forbid someone have a different opinion than you

  67. o.... ....

    Thanks for the journey...

  68. V.... H....

This is so good!!! Its my new fav song!!

  69. E.... F....

Now i want those 181 people that disliked this to tell me WHY?

    E.... F....

It's pure statistics. 181 out of every 9,000 people are feeble minded douche bottles, and I don't even care for The Lumineers, but this cover is brilliant.

    E.... F....

because someone disagrees with you does not make them a douche bag-such arrogance!

    E.... F....

Because some people have their heads stuck so far up their asses that they think it's sacrilege to cover his bobness

    E.... F....

Damn guys i got so roasted my english level is not that high i can even answear...i cri evri tiem

    E.... F....

    Because of beats by Dre...

  70. E.... Y....

    Great band thi😀

  71. E.... Y....

This song to me is really sad and depressing 😔

    E.... Y....

+Ethan Yourgules This is based on the ending of his relationship with Suze Rotolo; so yes, it's sad.

  72. B.... C....

    he is really flat.

  73. e.... f....

    It's pure art

  74. D.... D....

Can't help but think he sounds a little bit like David Gray.

    D.... D....

    I see your point.

  75. M.... Z....

nice beats by dr dre fucking poser

    M.... Z....

yeah course, using beats whilst recording

    M.... Z....

Name like yours shouldn't you be fucking goats?

  76. T.... B....

i could live in this song; no food, no water, just this

    T.... B....

+Terese Bee let the challenge begin!

    T.... B....

same!. this songs changed my life a lot. a lot!

    T.... B....

you oughtta try the dylan version out for size

    T.... B....

I like this version better imo...

  77. R.... h....

im so in love with this
