Lou Rawls - (They Call It) Stormy Monday Lyrics

They call it stormy Monday, but Tuesday's just as bad
They call it stormy Monday, but Tuesday's just as bad
Wednesday's worse, and Thursday's also sad

Yes the eagle flies on Friday, and Saturday I go out to play
Eagle flies on Friday, and Saturday I go out to play
Sunday I go to church, then I kneel down and pray

Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy on me
Lord have mercy, my heart's in misery
Crazy about my baby, yes, send her back to me

I learned of this artist when I was, what - 15?... and I baby-sat for a woman who had his music in her house. I have loved him for nearly five decades. How cool is that? He is the quintessential man of soulful blues.

My Thanks... (that timing of the eagle was something else).Enjoyed ;-).

  51. S.... ....

Great, great performance!  Stanley, the classy sax man with that Cadillac sound was the perfect icing on the cake to make this really stand out. Complementing Lou's vocals & burnin on his solo...mission accomplished! Miss them both...

  52. T.... W....

I love how Stanley Turrentine doesn't want to walk across the stage in front of Lou. And Lou notices and steps ahead so Stanley can walk on behind him. What class!

    T.... W....

    Beautiful!

    T.... W....

Definitely these folk give us a taste of the heavenly sound. The only instrument missing is a trumpet player (Gabriel) a la Louis Armstrong.but I guess here Lou is filling that position.with his voice.

    T.... W....

@Tony Winston Yeah, the are they are just the highest level of class.

  53. W.... M....

Lou on Vocal and Les McCann on Keyboard!!!  : D

  59. N.... B....

Sometime in the early '80's my late wife, a jazz singer, and I, threw a birthday party for Stanley in Dallas, where he had played at the Fairmount Hotel.  Took him to the airport the next morning......boy he couldn't wait to get out of Texas. Really nice man.

    N.... B....

Wow. I'm sure Stanley Turrentine was ready to get out of Texas QUICK. My father was from Texas and it was vicious to black folk. Such a violent KKK presence and lynchings it was UNREAL. It's not as bad as it was in the '50s-'70s but it still is incredibly racist especially towards blacks. There are a lot of Hispanics but they tend to assimilate a little better yet they've got it tough. RIP Stanley Turrentine and Lou Rawls.

    N.... B....

The fact that OTC was in Texas made my mind up - in the middle of a deep recession, I weren't takin' THaT job!
