Loggins & Messina - Vahevala Lyrics

I'm thinking about when I was a sailor
Spent my time on the open seas
When we'd stay off the coast of Jamaica
I'd secretly steal ashore
The natives were waiting for
The boy with the lazy soul
To sing with the sailor

Vahevala, homeless sailor
Vahevala, homeward sail away
Vahevala, homeless sailor
Vahevala, homeward sail away
Every evening I'd be gone
Back on board by break of dawn

I'm thinking about the nights in Jamaica
Pretty girls getting here and there
Stole a keg and now I'm drunk as a sailor
The captain he don't know
Where Billy he done go
But I'm singing with native girls
The songs of a sailor

Vahevala, homeless sailor
Vahevala, homeward sail away
Vahevala, homeless sailor
Vahevala, homeward sail away
Every evening I'd be gone
Back on board by break of dawn

Every night in Jamaica I'd sing with the lady
And drink with the men till the morning appear
Healthy sunshine is fresh on my face
As the songs of the night puts the ring in my ear

Vahevala, homeless sailor
Vahevala, homeward sail away
Vahevala, homeless sailor
Vahevala, homeward sail away
Every evening I'd be gone
Back on board by break of dawn

Damn! This is actually the most beautiful put together compilation I have seen in a long time!! I grew up here on Point Loma peninsula of San Diego, still live in our old 1951 family home. My mom is pushing 101 yo come Dec. I came VERY late in life for them. I grew around the whole Kellogs Beach, SD Yacht Club, North Sails, Pete Conner, America's Cup, Shelter Isle, Marlin Club, SD Bay, and Mission Bay Regatta scenes! Hence .. I loved and love sailing, and yes, I can sail. Haven't for ages! But, I can sail. :P

I grew up in Point Loma too. PLHS class of 68. America's Cup.

I watched this version on my laptop and the August 2016 version on TV using ROKU.  I was able to sync the videos perfectly until around the 3:45 minute mark when the 2016 version stayed with the modern fleet.  The video portion came back into sync, more or less, around the 13:30 minute mark.  I prefer the August 2016 version although the 2015 version shows much more of the tall ships.  The crowded scenes (the gawker flotilla) got to be a bit much but that is part of the action, as unwanted as it may be.  In either case, each video is outstanding and worth viewing multiple times.  Of course, the L&M live sound is great.  Thank you deeply for these videos.
