Loggins & Messina - Brighter Days Lyrics

I've seen brighter
I've known brighter days
Lying alone in the shade of a Manzanita

It's been sweeter
Bitter sweeter days
I know it's not for always
But all I can say is
I've seen better days
Is summer gone?
Has it been that long?
I guess that's what seasons will bring
I'm caught again in the autumn wind
But I remember spring

For I've seen brighter days
Seen lighter places to stay
Along my way
Oh, I've seen brighter days

I've seen warmer, soft and warmer nights
Lying with love by my side in the sycamores
There've been finer, yeah
I've seen mighty finer nights
Knowing what's wrong or what's right
Just don't matter when you're in warmer nights

But here I am like a sea blown wind
Under my thunder and rain
I'll ride the waves till a sunny day
Comes to me again
For I've seen brighter days
Seen lighter places to stay
Along my way

Oh, I've seen brighter days

  28. D.... H....

A perfectly sung and written song.........amazing song and album that I was lucky enough to discover in the 70's

    D.... H....

David: Mother Lode is a superior LP for sure. My favorites are the least played songs: Time to Space. Move On, Fever Dream and Keep Me In Mind. Native Sons, the last L & M LP is also brilliant. Kenny's song My Lady My Love is in the same vein as Brighter Days, just as pretty and melodic. Did you know that the lyrics to Fever Dream were co-written by Maury Mulheisen (sp?) the great guitarist who perished with Jim Croce in the plane crash back in 1973? Jim opened for L & M on a number of shows and he and Kenny became great friends. Kenny told me he was the finest acoustic guitarist he ever heard. As to Move On, I believe it is the finest musical arrangement in L & M's long songs catalog...tho Pathway to Glory from Full Sail LP is just as brilliant. Jim Messina cannot be overlooked as a truly gifted songwriter and arranger.

    D.... H....

I love this song, even calling KPRI in San Diego and asking the beautiful and sexy late night disc jockey babe Linda McInnes to play it on my 18th birthday. She signed off without playing it.

She committed suicide some twenty years later, when her own 'Brighter Days' were hard to find.

  53. p.... f....

Beautiful images.Life is like this song much of the time, Bitter Sweet. But man what an amazing, beautiful ride. The bumps are not optional however.

  61. D.... G....

For some reason I feel melancholic right now, and I clicked the song at just the right time for what I was feeling inside...I love these moments.

  62. T.... ....

I love the way Kenny wraps his voice, literally, around a lyric

  63. C.... ....

As a child, my mother always made sure we went up to the mountains in Colorado, where I grew up, to witness the aspen turning, and walk in the autumn air. She's been gone so long now, but whenever I see leaves changing I always think of her. Those memories are golden.

  64. T.... ....

    "Brighter Days"
written by Kenny Loggins and Dona Lyn George

I've seen brighter.... I've known brighter days
    lying alone in the shade of a manzanita;
it's been sweeter, bitter sweeter days.
I know it's not for always, but all I can say is
    I've known better days.
Is summer gone? Has it been that long?
I guess that's what seasons will bring.
I'm caught again in the autumn wind,
    but I remember spring.
    For I've seen brighter days,
seen lighter places to stay along my way.

  69. M.... ....

    Oh, I've seen brighter days
I've seen warmer, soft and warmer nights
lying with love by my side in the sycamores,
there've been finer, I've seen mighty finer nights
Knowing what's wrong or what's right just don't matter
    when you're in warmer nights.
But here I am like a sea blown wind
    under my thunder and rain
I'll ride the waves till a sunny day
    comes to me again
    for I've seen brighter days,
seen lighter places to stay ..along my way.
    Oh, I've seen brighter days.
