Little Feat - Willin' Lyrics

I been warped by the rain
Driven by the snow
I'm drunk and dirty, don't you know
And I'm still... willin'

And I was out on the road late at night
I seen my pretty Alice in every headlight
Alice, Dallas Alice

I've been from Tucson to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonapah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
Driven the back roads
So I wouldn't get weighed
And if you give me weed, whites, and wine
And you show me a sign
I'll be willin'... to be movin'

Well, I've been kicked by the wind
Robbed by the sleet
Had my head stoved in
But I'm still on my feet
And I'm still... willin'

I smuggled some smokes
And folks from Mexico
Baked by the sun
Every time I go to Mexico
And I'm still...

And I been from Tucson to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonapah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
Driven the back roads
So I wouldn't get weighed
And if you give me weed, whites, and wine
And you show me a sign
I'll be willin'... to be movin'

Little Feat Willin' Comments

I've actually driven from Tucson to Tucumcari, Tehachapi and Tonopah. And Alice Texas, cute little town. The songwriter must've actually driven the route, as I recall it's going thru Bakersfield, then cutting east to I-40. Hotter than Hades in summertime, and I also ran I-10 east hugging the border.
Incredible heat, the wife would soak towels in the ice chest and drape my shoulders.
I ran Fresno to Central America 9 times, everything from a Toyota pickup tow-barring a Datsun Honey Bee to full sized Gillig and Crown buses. It's 4,000 miles Fresno to Managua. I also ran 4 times Fresno, CA to Guatemala in my '69 Gillig bus. Cruising at 62 mph tops, I made 3,000 in 4 days, driving 18 hour days. No weed, no whites and no wine, just fine Mexican folks waving at me from village to village.

Rigs laying SIDEWAYS on Interstate 80 in a hella blizzard in Wyoming before a 5% downgrade. I love Little Feet. But these guys are too wasted to drive. Good music though no doubt.

  5. G.... W....

This song has a soulful message. Me? "Been there. Done that"! But these guys are too wasted at this point to even think about going down the road.

  33. C.... H....

I was 'there' when this song came out and I liked it, it was played all the time on the local non top 40 radio station in my boonie area (probably didn't get half the play if any on the typical top 40 radio stations of that period, which is probably why they're not in the Hall of Fame because not enough people heard them when they were hot). Never could quite figure out some of the lyrics until hearing it today and I said to myself, "oh, now I get the meaning of the song." Funny, all these years later I finally get a song that I loved when I was a kid.

  90. H.... L....

I relate to this song & loved covering it as a young musician.

  91. G.... S....

We saw Little Feat open for Marshall Tucker and Skynyrd at Winterland in San Francisco. Lowell was at the top of his game, and they did most of the songs on Waiting for Columbus. They were on fire and just smoked, we left after their set as we understood instinctively the following two bands could never match what we had just witnessed..

  92. W.... M....
