Little Feat - Mercenary Territory Lyrics
Is it the lies?
Is it the style?
It's a mercenary territory
I wish you knew the story
I've been out here so long dreamin up songs
I've did my time in that rodeo
It's been so long and I've got nothing to show
Well I'm so plain loco
Fool that I am I'd do it all over again
Is it the style?
Is it the lies?
Is it the days into nights
Or the "I'm sorry"s into fights
Now some kind of man, he can't do anything wrong
If I see him I'll tell him you're waiting
'Cause I'm devoted for sure but my days are a blur
Well your nights turn into my mornings
Well I did my time in that rodeo
Fool that I am I'd do it all over again
Is it love keeps you waiting so long
Makes you say I'll see you around
The forces that be, they just don't see
While your nights turn into my mornings
Is it the style?
Is it the lies?
Is it the days into nights
Or the "I'm sorrys" into fights

Little Feat Mercenary Territory Comments
Sure, nothing beats the solos. But 1:04-1:47 already softens your defences, d*mn, what a band (and horns section!) to honor and remember.. RIP Paul, Richie, Lowell... And the solos make you forget you quit smoking a little over a year ago!
Just Amazing!!!
What a fucking tune. Genius stuff.

I was gonna give this a "like" but, I saw it had 420 likes. Hmmmm. Come to think of it, that seems like the perfect amount. Nuff said.

LOWELL THAT ONE LAST PIZZA .JUST TO COME BACK FOR ONE MORE SHOW .
The middle of this version gives me chills ever time I hear it....even after 40+ years. doesn't get any better.
Top shelf.
I like the beat.
Too bad people cant listen , wonderful music,
Sexy, dam sexy!
This is just so good. Soulful yet powerful...
I had the T-shirt from the concert in San Diego spring 1978. Lost it a couple years ago. It went to Goodwill by mistake. I'm wondering who's wearing it now. The only concert T-shirt that mattered to me, and I wore as a badge of pride and honor - "I was there!" Phenomenal talent with no comparison. Little Feat. 1970s.
Last Record Album greatest unknown treasure. T of P fantastic addition to this .
1:14-1:25
Tower of Power is THE STANDARD.....for lack of a better description. Too SOLID !!
That slide just cuts right through my soul
Isn't this about the best fucking music ever?
I'm temporarily qualmless and sinking.
Ben Fong Torres says it is the ne plus ultra of the WB years
"Willin': The Story of Little Feat" written by Ben Fong Torres is a good book. Cheers!
cuts off at the end !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF??
This is just awesome music....Lowell went to young, who knows what we missed?
I love this album to pieces!
A masterpiece of musicianship, horns, drums, slide.
And i would agree wit dat...mostly: see 801 live on eg records, and/or joni mitchell's krewe on shadows & light
Do not be deceived by nor take lightly this bit of musicianship one describes simply as bass. This is the best live band ever.
Agree wholeheartedly. Saw them early in '76. Best show I have ever attended.
music doesn't get a whole lot better than this
Note to all the current "musicians" , this is how you make music.
Therealdeal I'mwrongbut Word
been in my stack since '78; Feat with Tower; it don't get no betta
I got married there.
Richie!!!
What is that man????? From the chorus to the turnaround i guess. it sounds like it jumps from 4/4 to i think 9/8!! As smooth as i don't know!! Unreal!!
Richie. Hayward.
Richie to me allways sounded like he was making it up as he went. I mean... With as much taste and as smooth as any drummer i ever heard!!! But he couldn't just remember all this... Right??
I agree. I never much cared, or paid attention, to the drummer in bands until I heard Little Feat. Richie just seemed to be painting a groove that was indescribable, (at least to me).
Who wrote this? I mean,Is there a score of this somewhere? Is this Lowell's or Lenny Pickets' Creation or both?
boooooooo to the one dislike
Now 2. Idiots.
really cool horn break. lolol . fool that I am , I'll do it all over again
There's just no question - this is one of THE greatest live cuts ever caught n tape. The ascending bridge part MAGNIFICENCE. And LG's exclamatory "Yeah" acknowledgement of it - the horns comping his slide - unforgettable.
Yep a musical orgasm for sure. Pure genius.
Absolutely NONE! better live than this... Tower of Power is freakin' amazing here!!
Yup. My favorite album of all time.
Mine, too!!
WeirdErnie mine too
One of my favorites fo sho
Is ANY of their Stuff not stupidly Fantastic?
bob wonderhem. I sure haven't found it
Did my time in your rodeo but the fool I am, I do it all over again.
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
The line I’ve used for years when I screwed up is, “Some kinda man he can’t do anything wrong, if I see him I’ll tell him you’re waitin.”
Not my First rodeo... lol
tower of power. superb
I never knew it was the Tower of Power in this song!
BetaHammer Tower of Power this whole album!
Most underrated recording on the album.
me too , this one and "Day or Night"
Brian Rothenberger ABSOFUCKINGLOOTLEY
Not to mention Lowell's amazing vocals and incredible slide guitar solo...epic!!!
Mercenary Territory live is in my top 10 live performances.
If quality were the measure, this video would have about 100 times the number of views.
Oh my, now this is rockin blues!
So hot you can smell smoke.
Lowell George....where are you when we need you my brother.
Lenny Pickett almost blew my tweeters with the last note of his solo
One of the best rock sax solos ever recorded
Saw them with the Grateful Dead in Oxford, ME 1988.
+Laylah Maynard im forever jealous
The best guitar/trumpet solo in music history
Erminio Fina that’s actually Lenny Pickett from Las Cruces, New Mexico on the Tenor Saxophone!
yes still one of the best albums i ever listened to
My absolute favorite album, live or otherwise. I've considered this my personal theme song since the first time I heard it in '83. Hopefully many years from now, when I'm on my deathbed, this anthem will be playing real loud. If I'm real lucky, yeah,Yeah,YEAH, will coincide with my last breath, and launch me into eternity, one very happy and motivated soul!
Thanks isn't enough, but it's the best I know how to say. Thanks Guys!!!
agreed one of the greatest albums ever....and the best five minutes from it !
One of the best bands in history and one of my top five.
The Feat being backed up by one of the hotest horn sections in the world Tower Of Power horns. Great slide solo by Mr. George that melts into a great tenor sax solo by Lenny Pickett. Waiting For Columbus is one of the greatest live albums ever to be released.
The mighty horns of TOP
yes! finally found this on youtube! haha i wore out my copy of waiting for columbus a long time ago
funkjester, you are the greatest!!
My ATF of all LF tracks...
...and in a true hifi bit-rate!

LITTLE FEAT--WAITING FOR COLUMBUS-- the best LIVE album ever-Tower of Power and Lowell George in 1978!! WOW !! Where is my time machine HG Wells, huh?I am going back to my lab to make my own time machine-because this is absolutely majestic stuff; I really needed to see this live- this music is timeless perfection
