Lin-Manuel Miranda - Hurricane Lyrics
[Hamilton:]
In the eye of a hurricane
There is quiet
For just a moment
A yellow sky
When I was seventeen a hurricane
Destroyed my town
I didn't drown
I couldn't seem to die
I wrote my way out
Wrote everything down far as I could see
I wrote my way out
I looked up and the town had its eyes on me
Total strangers
Moved to kindness by my story
Raised enough for me to book passage on a
Ship that was New York bound…
I wrote my way out of hell
I wrote my way to revolution
I was louder than the crack in the bell
I wrote Eliza love letters until she fell
I wrote about The Constitution and defended it well
And in the face of ignorance and resistance
I wrote financial systems into existence
And when my prayers to God were met with indifference
I picked up a pen, I wrote my own deliverance
In the eye of a hurricane
There is quiet
For just a moment
A yellow sky
I was twelve when my mother died
She was holding me
We were sick and she was holding me
I couldn't seem to die
[Burr:]
Wait for it, wait for it, wait for it…
[Hamilton:]
I'll write my way out…
[Burr and Ensemble:]
Wait for it, wait for it, wait for it…
[Hamilton:]
Write ev'rything down, far as I can see…
[Burr and Ensemble (Washington/Eliza/Angelica/Maria):]
Wait for it, wait for it, wait for it, wait… (History has its eyes on you)
[Hamilton:]
I'll write my way out…
Overwhelm them with honesty
This is the eye of the hurricane, this is the only
Way I can protect my legacy…
[Company (Except Hamilton):]
Wait for it, wait for it, wait for it, wait…
[Hamilton:]

Lin-Manuel Miranda Hurricane Comments
I just noticed at 1:04 the piano sounds like the beginning notes of Stay Alive, but it sounds more consoling and encouraging and less desperate, like the people in his town were so moved by his story and saw the potential in him that they tried to give him a new life by raising the money for the trip to America
Hamilton: I couldn't seem to die....
Burr: Wait for it
Best part of the song : https://youtu.be/7ZfzuJ8oVpE?t=70
Hurricane Hamilton
It's kinda sad because the "wait for it" in the background sounds like burr telling him not to "write his way out" but to wait for it to end on it's own.
Because In the end Alexander threw away his shot, and burr didn't wait for it.
Like how you can hear YorkTown (The world turns outside down) Because at this moment Hamilton’s world does turn outside down

The Reynolds Pamphlet
this isnt panic! at the disco
is it sad that i’m a thirteen year old girl and i can hit the low notes that a mature male adult is singing?
Actually, your voice sounds lower to yourself than to other people
Makes homework go quicker
holy shit Lin is a genius. the hurricane that destroyed hamilton’s town was Hurricane Maria and the “hurricane” that destroyed hamilton’s reputation was Maria Reynolds. the hurricane allegory makes even more sense now
OK to me this is Alex saying I am going to throw away life for legacy
LIKE THIS IF YOU AGREE

Perhaps relatiy:
Just wanted to kick the weirdo out xD
Unpopular opinion but this is my favourite song
Aka the song where Ham makes the second biggest mistake of his life
I suddenly had the unbearable earge to listen to this and I havent listened to Hamilton in over like 6 months
The 316 people who disliked...
mis clicked.
When my prayers to God were met with indifference,
I picked up a pen, I wrote my own deliverance!
One of the most inspirational lines in the whole play.
"I couldn't seem to die.."
"wAiT fOR It"
Me: I wonder if I can find a situation to turn this on.
Greese on the day before i flew away: *hurracane*
Me,watching hurracane out of my hotel room: *turns this on*
“I couldn’t seem to die” “wait for it” I’m dead
Literally all the comments were from 2018 and I'm here in almost 2020
You know how in all your fave musicals you got the one song you love more than the others in said musical? That's this song
Fite me botch
can we talk about Hamiltons shit decisions after Laurens died?
Burr: wait for it wait for it...
Alex: I have NEVER listend to you, you think I'll do it now?! HAHAHA
Watching this after finding out my friend and I are going to see Hamilton in downtown chicago on the 17th! I'm so excited!
lol guess he was wrong about the reynolds pamphlet
'' the YeLLow sKy ''
I noticed that Washington says history has its eyes on u like he's warning gam
O MY GOD
in the eye of the hurricane there is quiet...
for just a moment...
Throughout the entire musical, through all the motifs and everything, a severely underrated gem:
Alex; "I couldn't seem to die."
Burr *almost a whisper*: "Wait for it, wait for it wai-"
May be my favourite moment in musical theatre history...ever!
Hamilton says "i couldn't seem to die" and Burr says "wait for it"
Fortnite: I couldn't seem to die.
Everyone older then 9: Wait for it, wait for it
My captions at " A yellow sky " Said Phillip sky and that got me hard
I like this song
and dear theodosia
and my shot
and history has its eyes on you
and Schuyler sisters
and burn
and.. everything
I think this was the song when I went from "What the hell is wrong with you?" to, "Okay half the shit you do now makes way more sense"
god i love the "wait for it" and "history has its eyes on you..." in the background toward the end. they sound so frantic, like they know how hamilton is about to mess everything up and are begging him to stop writing and just "wait for it" and keep his mouth shut but thats just not how alex works
Is it okay if I use this for a future map? I might not post something like that for now, but I'm thinking about it. Also, the audio might be bad 'cuz I'm pretty bad at everything on digital art. XD
I’m almost crying😭
Hamilton: I couldn’t seem to die..........
Burr and company: wait for it, wait for it, wait for it,....
Hamilton: ignores
Nine songs later: Burr shoots Hamilton
*meant for the song before*
dude, this song actually terrifies me. not trying to block you from all the funny comments, but seriously, this song makes me scared. as an author, it scares me because you honestly never know what will happen to you. maybe you'll be a best seller, maybe you won't. you just have to *wait for it.* and if you mess up, such as alexander did, history really will have it's eyes on you. it's scary to think about, how you won't know what kind of mark you'll leave behind.
this is me at school.
*The Fates:* Men are fools, men are frail, give them a rope and they’ll hang themselves ...
*the person who doesnt like hamilton*
me: ARMY, RISE UP!!!
I love Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The captions are kinda funny.
"moved kindness by my stove"
But he's... he is the hurricane. The Reynolds pamphlet is the hurricane. There doesn't need to be a hurricane Alex. you are the hurricane
Listening to Hamilton on my way back from Area 51😘👽🚀🌌
Hamilton: I couldn’t seem to die...
Burr: WAIT FOR IT WAIT FOR IT
I find sad they cut the part before they sing, when they catch their breath before singing. It would have given more reality to the entire musical
After actually listening to it and thinking, as soon as hamilton gets the idea to "write his way out" the company keep saying wait for it. They're literally telling him not to. Goddamnit Alex
Ham: I couldn't seem to die
Burr: ( ͡º ͜ʖ ͡º)
This is my favourite ham song-
Percy brought me here
Me in Florida due to Hurricane
Me: In THe EYe oF thE HURrIcAne
The people of Florida and Bahamas need to listen to this song it will give them hope somehow.
This is the most inspiring song a how a man killed his career.
well dorian is coming, might as well
Playing this while preparing for Hurricane Dorian in Florida
The people of Florida shall know what it's like to be Hanilton
dang right thats what we will do exept its not our first
" And when my prayers to God were met with indifference, I picked up a pen I wrote my own deliverance!"
This gets me crying each time.
Florida rn
not today
here before dorian kills me 🤪
Why this got me going through my ham phase again rn ,i didnt even used to like this song🤔
In the eye i i i i i i i i i i of a hurricane
this was the very first (and for a long time the only) song from Hamilton I had heard and I thought of had to be the best song in the musical.
I was wrong
Me when the teacher is handing out the tests: 0:11
Is it irrelevant to say I was fiddling with a pen when listening to this?
I listened to this when I tried to get YouTube in my class back 😂😂
Thats probably my favorite song of the musical
*DUN* *DUN* *DUN* THE REYNOLDS PAMPHLET
"Passage on a ship that was New York bound" was stuck in my head, only that line, you all know how it is when you get an earworm. Anyway, I could not for the life of me figure out what it was from. I even considered Hamilton and was like nah, you'd know the rest if it was Hamilton. And what do you know, here I am....... finally following a gut instinct...... and it's from Hamilton. A little disappointed in myself, not gonna lie.
This song is amazing but also pisses me off
Most underrated song right here 👐
I LOVE THIS SONG
Aha, the only Hamilton song I can sing!
HAM:This is the only way I can protect my legacy
Me: YES! PROTECC YO LEGACY BOI
Ham:The Reynolds Phamplet
Me:WAIT- NOT THAT WAY!
"i couldn't seem to die"
"wait for it, wait for it..."
I will write my way out...the renynolds pamphlet.... Me: oh no you ain’t
Why is Hurricane 1 minute longer then We know?
ME: skips a song
Hamilton: *Confusing*
Me: *Confused pikachu face*
2:15
When you shit yourself in class and blame it on the kid next to you
Why do I -love- Lin Manuel Miranda's voice so much.
His voice is great
Everyone: WAIT FOR IT!
Hamilton: yeah no
God delivered him
Wait so what was Hamilton SUPPOSED to do in this case? Keep the meetings with Maria Reynolds a secret forever?
Hamilton: The Reynolds Pamphlet
My brain: https://youtu.be/DTH0n0dPRMw
Hurricane: I wrote My way OUT!
Literally the next song: The Reynolds Pamphlet
With Alexander, there’s never a moment of quiet.
I love that aside from the Burr's wait for forshadowing the duel, it also is advice. Then Washington comes in with the History has It's Eyes on You, signifying that *this* is what his greatest mistake will be known as. If he had just waited... nothing may have happened, and he could have done other things. Instead he just had to keep doing things
I just realized that the music in the beginning is the same as The Battle of Yorktown😮
He chose his legacy over his family and love.
"I looked up, the town had its eyes on me"
*NO HISTORY HAS ITS EYES ON YOU*
1:10 is my favorite part
