Libertines, The - Narcissist Lyrics

Professionally trendy in the glow of Claphams sun
There’s life after work and it can be such fun
You see all your models in magazines and on the walls
You wanna be just like them
Cause they’re so cool

They’re just narcissists
Well wouldn’t it be nice to be Dorian Gray?
Just for a day
They’re just narcissists
Oh, what’s so great to be Dorian Gray
Everyday?

We’re living in a looking glass
As the beauty of life goes by
You’re going to be so oh
You’re going to grow so old
Your skin so cold

Well they’re just narcissists
Well wouldn’t it be nice to be Dorian Gray?
Just for a day
They’re just narcissists
Oh, what’s so great to be Dorian Gray
Everyday?

They’re just narcissists
Well wouldn’t it be nice to be Dorian Gray?
Just for a day
Just for a day

Wouldn't being dorian grey just for one day defeat the purpose of being dorian grey? you'd need at least a few years to see the benefit of it right?

    S.... S....

Hmmm, that's damn fine thinking right there👍🏻

This song never got the credit it deserves

  6. A.... H....

By far the best song on the album

  7. v.... ....

We're talking about Peter here, the only person left who unironically says Albion. I think using 'colours' is pretty mandatory in this context.

  8. H.... ....

Much as I love Doherty I feel I should point out Carl Barat wrote this one! (Just Carl Barat, no Doherty co-writing credit)

    H.... ....

really? just carl? this song comes from horray for the 21st century, where some of the lyrics are "What became of the working class". so, you know pete has A thing for the working class?

  9. s.... ....

"We're living in a looking glass
As the beauty of life goes by" describes instagram

  14. T.... ....

@OriginalShrimpVendor they're too "brutal" to be ramones imo, it's more of a light, emotion-focused clash imo.

  15. y.... ....

    @alissewonder Lmao, Winner!

  16. F.... S....

@alissewonder Congratulations , my friend you cannot spell colours

  17. J.... C....

  18. T.... R....

I'd never want to be poor Dorian. It'd speak poorly for my choice of friends....

  19. O.... ....

Don't get offended YouTube... But they remind me of a gayer version of The Smiths mixed with the Ramones. xD I still like em' though. Morressey loved Oscar Wilde too...

  20. D.... F....

    @Gatran1 it is "Narcissist"

  21. G.... W....

U failed. It's "Narcissist" not "Narcist". But the song is so fuckin' great !

    Thanks for uploading, though :)

  22. m.... ....

@covenantofgrace100 Yeah because The Kinks were booming with originality and not copying The Beatles or the Small Faces at all were they...Haha. Idiot.

  23. B.... ....

@00britney It doesn't sound anything like you really got me! I've never heard anyone say that before.

  24. t.... ....

@covenantofgrace100 what? the libertines can go from the darkness of Plan A to the light of Seven Deadly Sins, from the pure energy of Skag and Bone Man to the calm of Radio America. i haven't heard any other band do this, every band has influences but the libertines are more original than most while remaining great

  25. E.... K....

I'm writing a song about a narcissist at the moment and proud :)

  26. 0.... ....

listen to "you really got me" by the kinks. it seems like the libs kinda wrote narcissist while listening to it.

    0.... ....

    00britney
If you can't write it steal it

  27. N.... ....

@TheFriedLiverAttack Don't worry, I'm not religious in any way. What I meant: He puts on "masks". First impressions are good and nice and then, some get hurt by him. I was writing in metaphors, wasn't meant to be taken literally. :)

  28. p.... ....

@indyk91 wow i never heard that one before lol.

  29. C.... G....

I think this is about narcissism and Dorian Gray as a metaphor for this disorder. Narcissists tend to view themselves as something special and wonderful, thus they act like someone they are really not. Their inner psyche is emotionally blunt and their overall conduct is cruel towards others. Just like Dorian who looks wonderful but the more you know him,the more you know he's not what he looks like to be and his picture is the proof of his tainted true self. Metaphorically...

  33. S.... H....

@jessicasydneyy.. yeah oscar wilde's awesome, carl's actually talking about Dorian Gray syndrome...

  34. S.... H....

See "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde. A new Colin Firth movie based on this book is coming out later in 2009.

  40. A.... C....

Dorian Gray is a charecter from a Oscar Wild's work.
