Levon Helm - Sweet Peach Georgia Wine Lyrics
I was on my way from Daulton, headed for Atlanta
Thinking about that girl I left behind
When a voice so soft and tender floated down to me from the window
Would you like a taste of my sweet peach Georgia wine?
Said you can come back and see me any old time
And just as I was going that old sheriff must have gone in
Said boy you've been in my sweet peach Georgia wine
Now hows I supposed to know she was the sheriff's daughter
She was only sweet sixteen but she looked a lot older
Well, I guess I've learned my lesson son
You know I'm doing my 10 to 21
Just for tasting that sweet peach Georgia wine
She was only sweet sixteen but she looked a lot older
Well, I guess I've learned my lesson son
You know I'm doing my 10 to 21
Just for tasting that sweet peach Georgia wine
If I ever get out of this jail house, I ain't gonna slowdown
Till I reach that Georgia boarder line
Well, maybe one quick stop down in Macon
'Cause I hate to leave these parts and not take it
One more sip of sweet peach Georgia wine
Now hows I supposed to know she was the sheriff's daughter
She was only sweet sixteen but she looked a lot older
Well, I guess I've learned my lesson son
You know I'm doing my 10 to 21
Just for tasting that sweet peach Georgia wine

Levon Helm.............The True King!!!!!!!!!
As a Fayetteville native, this just gives me chills. This sound from these guys is the soundtrack of my life. <3
I saw the Cate Brothers in Tulsa Oklahoma sometime in mid 80's (??). They blew my socks off.
Saw this group at Fryfoggles Bar in London Ontario back in the 70s Levon is awsome
This is so Bad~Ass!
What year?
1981 from the Canadian comedy show SCTV.
Levon & the boys: rockin' my soggy Saturday.
We all miss you, Levon!
Nailed it. 🇬🇧❤️
Love ever thing he did.
Canada used to be great, but now it is full of marxist feminist assholes. I was a part of the last generation of good Canadians. I miss those days, they are lost forever.
It is what is it is but it ain't what it used to be.
The cate brothers.👍
wut year?1965?or earlyer?
Ron's bass is just so good..driving the whole damn thing with Levon and Terry's drumming..and the Bros cate..oh yeah how its done son!
Anyone else getting traces of Jerry Reed in this performance? I'm living long enough to say goodbye to too many of my musical heroes, but thankfully I got to enjoy them while they were here, and thanks to YouTube I'm still finding gems like this. Thanks to whoever put it up!
They got the music!!
Страхотно парче !
Fabulous fabulous fabulous.
What year was this? Levon looking young
Probly late 70 s early 80 s it was sctv out of toronto
Since nobody else has said it, I guess I will. Levon looks damn fine with dark brown hair!
We were so much older then/we're younger than that now...
Ernie @Earl
I got to sit in with the Cate Bros. on bass a few times and opened a show for Levon in Tulsa. All were great musicians and great guys!

Well she showed me to the backdoor and she told me what it was for
Said you can come back and see me any old time

Ah, 70s in NW Arkansas is a little fuzzy in places but a high time was had by all.
just need zorro and the blue footballs and it's set :)
Dwain Kitchel Just recently found a ZATBF FIRST Album in near mint condition. I would have thought those were eaten at some late party at the Swinging Door.
But i got vinyl of them and it sure sounds nice.
take me back to the days of the Hawks!
This was great. Loved it, thanks for sending it to me Michael LeBlanc
Gotta love it!! An American original. Nobody like Levon!
Was that Jim's dad from American Pie doing the interview?
+Robert Cherkauer
It's one of Eugene Levy's characters from SCTV, Earl Camembert
Eugene Levy. Schlitts List in presently
Muscle Shoals Sound Studio!
wish this on mp3 :(((
12 bar Blues , take me back hom. wicked
It's not a 12 bar blues song. 8 bars only.
"American Son" was a great great work! thanks.
Episode 79 One on the Road- Second City Television
Yes indeed!
I love Levon. Last time i cried was the evening that I read Levon Helm passed away. I knew he's been battling cancer for some time now, but I guess I never thought ol Levon would die. I guess I thought he was invincible. Im glad he got a couple of years to play music and be with friends and family before he passed. Even though he died I believe he won the battle. When he got throat cancer that didnt even almost stop Levon from singing his heart out every day. Although I never met him, I love him
And a little Sweet Peach Georgia Wine to go with that American Pie. I think it's great.
This is brilliant. A voice that was pure America.
Flat out Rockin' and a joy !!! Big Love out to Levon.
RIP Levon, thanks for all the joy your music has brought to me and the world. also RIP Bert Weedon, guitar supremo.1975, a great year in my music education.Northern Lights-Southern Cross- The Band. and The Cate Brothers, first album.
Looking for Levon and found some American Pie all in one place. That's nice.
Local heroes around these parts..
You say it like its a bad thing!
@mtut I very much appreciate your explanation. Thanks a lot, mtut!
@Anisozygoptera I see where you got that - but there's a long tradition in blues of the "back door man" - a guy who is for whatever reason not supposed to be there (usually messing with another man's wife). Also, in GA the age of consent is 16, so he wasn't sent up for statutory. "Fornication" was illegal in GA regardless, so maybe that's it. The sense I get from the lyric, though, is that the sheriff was mad enough to find any pretext to get him thrown in jail.
What year is this?
keep rocking levon!
@Anisozygoptera your sad attempts at humor sink like a rock
what a hot little band
...that's SCTV's Earl Cammonbare (Eugene Levy) ! Ha !
EUGENE FREAKING LEVY!!!! oh,and LEVON IS THE MAN!!!
Gotta love those Muscle Shoals Sound t-shirts!!!
SCTV was a great show back then. Think it came on right after Saturday Night Live back in those days. Great to see the Cate Bros on here.
is noone going to comment on the fact that that's Eugene Levy?
My dad is Ron Eoff on bass. I love watching this video. It makes me smile.
It would make you proud, cool. Can I ask is he still with the Cate Bros.? If yes tell them to put some videos of their sets. Lot of fans out there. We need good soul music!
the tele that earl is playing was my dads.. he sold it to him in 79 when they played together at the library club in fayettville
Oh my god! I just discovered this song by watching THIS VERY EPISODE of SCTV on DVD. I had no idea about this, and went looking online. Yay Youtube!
Yes, it's Levy. From what I remember of this episode, he sort of tries to get an interview with Levon all night with similar results. (The whole show was constructed around this fictitious, really low-rent TV network).
It’s Eugene Levy, Canadian / world comedic icon. He is the best of the best. Given The Band’s Canadian roots, it’s probably from a show up there after the original band split.
Wow, what an archive video. Not too many of these jewels around especially with double drumming with Levon and nephew Terry Cagle. Earl and Ernie Cate are legends with Ron Eoff on bass.
Levon is the man!
Levon is like the musician god!
Steve Cropper sound
Is that Eugene Levy at the start?
Yes this on sctv
Great rock and roll band.
Levon Rocks!!!
