Leon Russell - Roll In My Sweet Baby's Arms Lyrics

Rollin' in my sweet baby's arms rollin' in my sweet baby's arms
Lay around the shack till the mail train comes back
I'm rollin' in my sweet baby's arms

I ain't gonna work on the railroad I ain't gonna work on the farm
I'll lay around the shack till the mail train comes back
I'm rollin' in my sweet baby's arms
Rollin' in my sweet baby's arms...

Now where was you last Friday night while I was lyin' in jail
Walkin' the streets with another man you wouldn't even go my bail
Rollin' in my sweet baby's arms...

I know your parent don't like me they drove me away from your door
And my life's too bluer never to wearing more
Rollin' in my sweet baby's arms...

Rollin' in my sweet baby's arms...

Leon Russell Roll In My Sweet Baby's Arms Comments
  1. Thomasgene

God Blessed us with Hank and Leon.

  2. Nicolette Kelly

My parents took me to see him once, and I got to meet and greet and I just fell in love with him and his work. At 10 years old, he was my first boyfriend 😂 but he didn’t know it. Took me almost a year to talk about how much I adored him after his passing. 2016 was a rough year for my childhood heroes. Ya know, like this year.

This was from Hanks Back, Leon tribute to Hank Wilson. 6pack to go is anthemic.

  25. Don Buck

As a session man in LA i the 60s Leon knew his stuff. He played with everyone from Frank Sinatra to the Beach Boys. He recorded this record in 3 days with a bunch of real good players. That was not done even back in 1973.Still sounds good after all these years.

  26. TheMan FromAspen

I really miss Leon he was such a gifted singer and writer RIP

  27. Nightrain76

Anyone know who wrote this song?

    aggressive accoustic

per wikipedia: "Roll in My Sweet Baby's Arms" is an American traditional song. It seems to have developed from lyrics in the cowboy song "My Lula Gal", itself a development of bawdy British and Appalachian songs generally known as "Bang Bang Rosie" or "Bang Away Lulu.

    aggressive accoustic thanks.

Leon Russell - the consummate musician's musician....

  30. Ariellyn

Leon never chased the big dollars and fame (although I'm sure he is living proof that when you are as great as he is you don't have to).  I'm sure he's doing just fine and I hope he continues to sing, play, and write forever.

  31. Arkansas Red

Bobby Thompson playing his signature banjo licks.  What a classic.

Heard this for the first time on the Hanks Back album. That's right, 10 inch vinyl. Look it up. Made a cassette tape of it and wore that out on my Pioneer stereo with the 6X9 speakers in my 19 and 72 Dodge Charger driving back and forth between Trenton NJ and Fairless Hills PA with Jim and Mark. Now I know what they mean when they say… Those were the days my friend.

    Betsy Rovetto

Had to replay this video so I could hear it over my laughter at this comment. "Rinkie", indeed. Oh well, vive la différence, eh?

  43. Stan Smith

Why not use the original album cover, " Hank Williams Back" one rocking Country & Blue Grass combo album.

Leon Russell. Of all damn people. Over the years, I have amazed many of mah C&W/BG friends w/this here albumn. I play this for 'em, then ask, "Who's that?" They never guess. Drugged-out hippie or not, Leon Russell made some damn good music. "Back To The Island." Lord, some good music. "Hank Wilson's Back" includes the best versions of "Sweet Baby's Arms," "Just Because," and "Six Pack to Go," among others, that you will ever hear anywhere, and I mean anywhere.

  49. jason bennett

@oamanda87 100% shite! You gotta' be kiddin' me. I just got the biggest belly laugh that I've had in quite a while. Educate yourself in Leon's musical history. It will help you understand what great music is and overcome your ignorance and this delusion that you have of M&M being a legend. Thank you for the laugh.

  50. TheJimmyoneleg

This is good shit! Wait 'till 2.07. Just one question remains; Why hasn't this guy worked with Ricky Scaggs flat pickin' that ol' dog yet?

    Ben Sizemore

You got that backwards son. Leon been doing it before Ricky was born.
