My parents took me to see him once, and I got to meet and greet and I just fell in love with him and his work. At 10 years old, he was my first boyfriend 😂 but he didn’t know it. Took me almost a year to talk about how much I adored him after his passing. 2016 was a rough year for my childhood heroes. Ya know, like this year.

This was from Hanks Back, Leon tribute to Hank Wilson. 6pack to go is anthemic.

As a session man in LA i the 60s Leon knew his stuff. He played with everyone from Frank Sinatra to the Beach Boys. He recorded this record in 3 days with a bunch of real good players. That was not done even back in 1973.Still sounds good after all these years.

Leon Russell - the consummate musician's musician....

Leon never chased the big dollars and fame (although I'm sure he is living proof that when you are as great as he is you don't have to).  I'm sure he's doing just fine and I hope he continues to sing, play, and write forever.

Heard this for the first time on the Hanks Back album. That's right, 10 inch vinyl. Look it up. Made a cassette tape of it and wore that out on my Pioneer stereo with the 6X9 speakers in my 19 and 72 Dodge Charger driving back and forth between Trenton NJ and Fairless Hills PA with Jim and Mark. Now I know what they mean when they say… Those were the days my friend.

Leon Russell. Of all damn people. Over the years, I have amazed many of mah C&W/BG friends w/this here albumn. I play this for 'em, then ask, "Who's that?" They never guess. Drugged-out hippie or not, Leon Russell made some damn good music. "Back To The Island." Lord, some good music. "Hank Wilson's Back" includes the best versions of "Sweet Baby's Arms," "Just Because," and "Six Pack to Go," among others, that you will ever hear anywhere, and I mean anywhere.
