To those of you saying John didn't believe in God, in Double Fantasy in Beautiful Boy remember John sang "before you go to sleep, say a little prayer". Since it was released in 1980 I'm sure he probably didn't change his mind on his beliefs in that short amount of time before his passing. This was penned by a man who had everything, who had reached the absolute pinnacle of fame; it's impossible to become more famous than John Lennon, the level of such being on par with Jesus Christ or Hitler, he achieved unlimited money, global adoration, accolades of genius, etc. Co-founded the most commercially successful pop band in the entire history of the world. He reached the top of the top of the top of what this world deems successful. He also had found his so-called "soul mate" in Yoko Ono and thus had true love. And if that weren't enough, his own beloved son was born on the same birthday as himself - October 9. He literally had everything. And yet he was seriously depressed. You know how you come to learn such things as how so many proverbs are not true and you run into counter-intuitions and you can have bad life experiences, of which, some have it harder than others. In John Lennon's case, he was a very old soul and it was his last incarnation on earth. That is to say he has reached the full cycle of rebirth and has no need to return to earth in a future life. I've seen an interview not long after John's death,it was Pat Robertson of 700 Club,recalling phone conversations with John Lennon and how he had prayed to God to heal his damaged palate, Robertson also recounted how John would disguise himself and attend church,so as to not be recognized. We have a very forgiving God,I sincerely believe that John got saved,we will soon find out. It's all good. :)

In the wikipedia account of the life and death of John's Aunt Mimi, it notes that she died in1991. She had a caregiver, who was with her as she passed. The caregiver was quoted as saying that as Mimi breathed her last breathe, she uttered these words: "Hello John." Guess we don't have to imagine if there's a Heaven or not, and if this Wikepedia account is true, then it looks like John made it there.

This is my favourite song.Religion causes so many problems but if we just leave that out, and talk to a 'concept' which is God or our idols, we can motivate, or more recieve the power and ability to conquer our problems or answer our questions. Such a shame John died just weeks after this was made. Overall, although this is emotional, and a tearjerker, it really does motivate me as a person to do the best I can in life. This song has so much to it which means it's one of the best songs ever made

@drrobertoboogie97 Correct. I cannot say whether or not he was a believer, but there's evidence on both sides of the question. Only God knows His heart. Clearly John himself seemed conflicted on the subject. Taking all the apparent evidence into consideration, though, it seems quite possible that John had more faith in God than some of his songs made it appear. He obviously had no confidence in organized religion and those who claimed to be Jesus' followers. "Jesus was all right, but His ..etc."

There are several other statements and song lyrics that could be quoted that would indicate he also harbored a belief in a supreme being whom he hoped was benevolent. We should not be too quick to judge anyone on the basis of what they may have said or written at one time or another. I'm glad God is our judge, and not just man.
