Led Zeppelin - Royal Orleans Lyrics

One time love, take care how you use it
Try to make it last all night, And if you take your pick
Be careful how you choose it, Sometimes its hard to feel it bite
Feel it bite.

A man I know, went down to Louisiana,
had himself a bad, bad fight
And when the sun peeked through
John Cameron with Suzanna,
He kissed the whiskers, left & right
Whiskers!

Now, now, now, fright subsides
Out at a hotel in the quarter, our friends check in to pass the night
Now love gets hot, but fire preceded water
Poor whiskers set the room alight.
Whiskers!

Down on Bourbon street, You know it's right
You can see my friend, they run around all through the night
Most everywhere, Until the closet's bare
Run for the razor, Doin' up my hair

New Orleans queens, Sure know how to schmooze it
Maybe for some that seems alright
When I step out, strut down with my sugar
She'd best not talk like Barry White!

One time love, take care how you use it
Try to make it last all night, And if you take your pick
Be careful how you choose it, Sometimes its hard to feel it bite
Feel it bite.

Don't know why Presence didnt sell well. For me, it's one of my favorite Zep Albums. Every song rocks and are full of great riffs, twists and turns

  3. R.... M....

Jones and Bonham. Once again at their best.

  4. j.... w....

Bonham was the original drum machine...

  5. P.... W....

awesome song...shared to the Netshows Radio "Program 179" Playlist on youtube

  6. F.... ....

Zep was known for stops and starts, puases and breaks. This album has some of the hardest, most funky riffs and rhythms that they've ever produced. I certainly have my favorite Zep albums, but each album is a gem in its own way, always exploring new space and sounds. This is why they are the best selling hard rock band in the history of music.

  7. F.... R....

    WHISSKERS

  8. G.... M....

    So founkey

I stayed in the Royal Orleans...sick as a dog..

    T.... L....

Yeah, I stayed there about 2 months before Hurricane Katrina. Best time I ever had in New Orleans.

  13. n.... b....

If only they could have held the vibe that they created on this album. They probably don't realize how much they meant to me as when I was a teenager. Thank you, Led Zeppelin.

  14. K.... K....

Everything that made them eternal is present in this jewel.
    Rock On.

  15. R.... T....

Presence is the album where JB and JPJ shine more in my opinion, they kill it in all songs, just fantastic!

  16. T.... M....

    Só ouço o Boham

  19. C.... K....

    My second favorite Zep song.

    C.... K....

    First is?

  20. D.... R....

Presence is a somewhat overlooked album and has a different sound and vibe about it. That said, it very well could be my favorite album. This song kicks ass and is so cool. I just wish it were longer. These re-mastered versions sound really good.

  21. a.... ....

Hard rock funk, great! Led Zep played all types of music and made it their own. Brilliant.

  22. B.... N....

Robert was really petty for this song

  23. m.... a....

Kiss the whiskers left and right

  24. T.... B....

Not only did these british wankers rob the blues guys blind but also stole the funk and groove from NOLA'S The Meters.Without genuine American music these dipshits would have had no band or music to play.Same with the Beatles. They stole all their stuff from a guy from Texas whose band was named after a bug too.Can we guess who that guy was? Heres a hint:He died in a plane crash.

  25. t.... ....

2019-1968 When after all this time, the vast majority of the songs in their entire catalog, can still, by any standard, be considered great, epic, masterful, extremely well crafted and beautiful songs!... you know they were something really special that will be hard to reproduce.

  26. C.... B....

This album is Zep's most DRASTICALLY underrated album. I'm listening to it from front to back for the first time in over 20 years and I, myself, am also guilty of underestimating the strength of this album. Once again proving that this group is easily one of the greatest, if not the greatest, band in the history of recorded music.

    C.... B....

There are a lot of bands, and individuals that had/have incredible talent. What totally sets Zep apart is that they have that same talent, but the SONGS ARE SO GOOD. Just track after track. Great that someone can play guitar fast and clean, or do incredible drum solos. The magic comes in when the music as a whole is great. Same with movies. I have seen movies that were gorgeously shot and acted, but they suck!

  27. A.... F....

I bought this in 1976. I liked it. Not too many critics did. One year after Physical Graffiti came out.

    A.... F....

Honestly it was a tall order to fill, but at the same time, it is one of their best albums, and probably suffered because of that release time window, because it is an excellent album... most of the times, underrated.

    A.... F....

    @tnightwolf 2 very long songs.
Rock, funk, and blues are represented.
I never understood what that Obelisk meant in all those pictures.

  28. C.... W....

Favorite album of any rock band.

  29. M.... W....

    This is soo funky 🤠!

  30. r.... s....

anybody have a link to the concert page n plant did with young kid drummer on a blue background stage i think in england some time in 2000s , though maybe 90s ?

  31. I.... L....

Why is this song so underrated

  32. c.... ....

Someone just said that this was a bad LedZep song. They said it in the YT comments for Achilles Last Stand, the live version, from knebworth. No, it isn't a bad song. It is a fucking great song!

    c.... ....

    who the fuck said that?!

  33. B.... P....

Metal heads do respect Zep and its hard not to cause they so explosive. This so catchy w licks & drums are Woah!!!
This song makes me wanna order pizzas & invite my brothers over for a Subway Series game

  44. J.... R....

Led ZeppelinI’ll start by saying all four members Zepplin are awesome I purchased my first Led Zeppelin album when I was seven years old Led Zeppelin two and I was hooked before that needle on the record player play that last song i’ve had the great fortune to see Jimmy Page when he was plane with out rider and Robert Plant twice now and Zen and manic Nirvana and met him at the Austin coliseum after the now and Zen concert and once at Irvine Meadows Led Zeppelin no quarter front row all I can say now is if you haven’t listen to zeppelin you Haven’t experienced music

    J.... R....

Joseph Rex Hogan how were you hooked before hearing them?

  45. S.... D....

    Its the wanton song

    S.... D....

    No idiot it's Royal Orleans

    S.... D....

#GregHubbard Stop bitching you virgin cuckold.

  46. h.... ....

I like how Presence is full of these catchy, almost hypnotic guitar hooks, people probably thought it was a little one dimensional for them but I dig the styles and grooves on this album in its simplicity, I know things were rough for the band in 76

    h.... ....

Yep. Jonesy didn't incorporate ANY keyboards in any song. I think it is the only LedZep album with no keyboards.

  47. D.... D....

    Such a bad ass song

  48. D.... H....

    enjoy the bite

  49. T.... T....

How they fit that much music into 3 minutes I will never understand. Fucking incredible.

  50. M.... ....

Bonzo was really on his game on this album. really seemed to take his drumming to a whole 'nother level (if that was possible) on this set.

  51. g.... c....

They all sound absolutely phenomenal, they have always been a great sounding band especially on the albums. Jimmy & JPJ were both top studio musicians & knew things bout recording that others didn't know. Thank you to Les Paul for coming up with multitrack recording & so many other things. Listen to how many guitars are playing on some tunes. Is just so intense & he just had that sound, of course he ran his amps so hot that they probably lucky if he could get a half hour out of them before the tubes were toast, but man he had his stuff dialed in & played with such
Passion that it just takes me to another place & moves me emotionally. Anyway thanks for reading my physcotic rant. Everyone should get some Led for their head. I mean they are just excellent no matter what you like musically, if any of hears a Zep tune, its just amazing music & you just know that its a God like force behind it. Thsnk God we all gett to experience.the magic of Led Zeppelin recordings & live stuff on you tube, dvd, & whatever Jimmy will let us see or hear. Ok I'm done ✌

  52. C.... A....

Bonham's playing at 0:52 amazes me every time.

    C.... A....

Christopher Antonucci Pretty common beat, must know if u play any funk or R&B

    C.... A....

    the boy was bad...

    C.... A....

But Bonham does it with swing

  53. K.... H....

The story behind this song is really funny. John Paul Jones got drunk and picked up a hooker in the French Quarter who turned out to be a drag queen. Royal Orleans is the name of the hotel where it happened. The band having fun at the expense of their bassist.

    K.... H....

I think JPJ had fun at the expense of himself. I'm sure there are many more embarrassing stories with the other members that they are just afraid to let out.

    K.... H....

So nowadays the moron brigade would call him transphobic. Nice.

    K.... H....

    K. H.
I live in New Orleans and in fact worked across the st from Royal Orleans hotel..it sits on the corner of Royal St and St. Louis by Antiones Restaurant.. I worked around the corner from Antiones their sister place a coffee shop.. so I faced Royal Orleans Hotel cause it wraps around Royal st and Saint Louis st.. It’s in the middle of everything.. I used to use their bathroom because they had and still do have nice clean restrooms.. The restaurant attached to the hotel called the Rib Room serves great food..
I liked that area because it surrounded by lots of street musicians and artists.. and many historical buildings..
There are so many stories like this.. you can’t come to New Orleans and party and not have a crazy story attached to it.. .. but the crazy thing is this mild compared to all the outrageous things that I have experienced or seen.. lived in New Orleans 17 years and been to several Mardi Gras...
It can get wild at times..funny story though and they wrote a song about it they must have a good sense humor...😆👍

    K.... H....

    @TheJudge1041 Awesome story. Thanks!

    K.... H....

Yeah actually our tour guide pointed it out to me so yeah

  54. J.... S....

    Nice little solo on this🤘🏻

  55. M.... W....

    k

    just be!\

  56. T.... P....

actually a 45rpm singlebin 1976 with Candy Store Rock.....did not chart

  57. G.... J....

Humble opinion ... The entire "Presence" album was Zep at it's tightest. Simply brilliant ...

    G.... J....

Never listened to that album that much other than this song. I'll have to check it out. I always liked earlier Zeppelin better. I'll have to listen to this album again.

    G.... J....

@Pat Cummings that sounds like In Through The Out Door. You can tell by all the keyboards. Carouselambra? Jones.
I'm sure Page was pretty stoned, but it's said he did the guitar leads in under two weeks. That's some seroius tracks there.

    G.... J....

@Pat Cummings seems legit. all the funky shit on their last couple albums just make ya move

    G.... J....

@Pat Cummings that's totally wrong listen to the guitar parts the best work page ever done this was a close to a solo jimmy page album in the 70s u will get

  58. s.... m....

I can actually remember having this on 45. Candy Store Rock was on the other side.

  59. B.... ....

Is there anything more glorious sounding than the sound of Bonham's drums? Big and full sound, but not harsh at all.

    B.... ....

@Fear Resides Within Us. I feel like I was kinda lucky in the 80s I got to work with most of the Blues guys.I had BB King tell me one time a guy came up to him many years ago and was saying he was gonna start a band and really liked BB's stuff and he would be famous one day and it turned out to be Sir Paul. Also a guy from Ft Worth Texas named Delbert McClinton is who taught John Lennon to play harmonica. If you havent ever heard of Delbert,Give him a listen. He is a bad ass.Ever heard the Blues Brothers do " B Movie Boxcar Blues?" Delbert wrote that.Delberts version is better.Again lots of music was learned from the Texas Guys too.Billy Frank of ZZ is another one who will give credit.ZZ got" La Grange" from a song John Lee Hooker wrote called "Boogie Chillun".Of course Hookers version is better. Now for the real info lol Checkout a guy name Freddie King.He was from Dallas Tx.He is where Clapton got his licks and Clapton will say so.There was nobody like Freddie.Check him out.

    B.... ....

@Talkin Bout Nawlins Thanks for the info, will do.

    B.... ....

I'm starting to think that Bonzo was actually the most important member of the band

    B.... ....

@kevin hasch The drummer is the time keeper no more no less unless you are talking about someone like Neil Peart like the gentleman above mentioned or Phil Collins and a few more.As Keith Richards once said"Bonzo was too heavy handed".Too goddamn loud! If you do like Phil Collins check out a band Phil was in before at the top 40 kiddie nonsense. The band was called Brand X and its incredible. No teenybopper bullshit in this band.Jonesy on his best day couldnt follow Percy Jones.Wont even mention the guitar player,John Goodsall.lol Happy Listening!

    B.... ....

One song no one EVER talks about when it comes to Bonham's drumming ability is Rock & Roll. He fuckin WAILS on that track!!

  60. B.... ....

    Led Zep doin' James Brown.

    B.... ....

only down side was that James Brown was a woman beating POS.

    B.... ....

@JC Edwards and Page a pedophile...

  61. e.... ....

Sounds like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers before they existed!

    e.... ....

JPJ is one of the top 5 best of all times in my opinion.  Not a big RHCP fan but Flea can play, not on the same level as Jones but not overrated.  Most of their music still sucks though

    e.... ....

    You're Fired

    e.... ....

ejm109cia Lol I was literally just thinking that

    e.... ....

    Apples and oranges

    e.... ....
