Led Zeppelin - Hots On For Nowhere Lyrics

I was burned in the heat of the moment,
Though it couldn't have been the heat of the day
When I learned how my time had been wasted,
(And a) tear fell as I turned away

Now I've got friends who will give me their shoulder,
Event I should happen to fall
Time and his bride growing older
I've got friends who will give me fuck all

(On the) corner of Bleeker and nowhere
In the land of not quite day
A shiver runs down my backbone
Face in the mirror turns grey

So (I) looked round to hitch up the reindeer
Searching hard trying to brighten the day
I turned around to look for the snowman
To my surprise he'd melted away.

As the moon and the stars call the order
Inside my tides dance the ebb and sway
The sun in my soul's sinking lower
While the hope in my hands turns to clay
I don't ask that my field's full of clover
I don't moan at opportunity's door
And if you ask my advice, take it slower
Then your story'd be your finest reward.

Lost on the path to attainment
Search in the eyes of the wise
When I bled from the heart of the matter
I started bleeding without a disguise

Now everything's fine under heaven
Now and then you've got to take time to pause
When you're down on the ground, don't be messin' around
Or you'll land in a boat without oars
Hey babe, Hey babe, Hey babe,
I lost my way.

Hey babe, Hey babe,
I don't know where I'm gonna find it.

Hey babe, Hey babe,
Do you wanna know,
Do you really, really, wanna help me, yeah?

Let me tell you now, babe
Let me tell you
That it feels so good that it must be right

Now my babe,
Let me tell you
That it feels so good that it must be right...

Led Zeppelin Hots On For Nowhere Comments
  1. F.... ....

For my money, this album has some of the funkiest and hardest driving riff of any Zep album

  2. J.... B....

    Very underrated song

  3. M.... L....

wow. a Led Zeppelin song with cursing in it. put this song in a museum

  4. F.... ....

FUNKY and modern, or rather, timeless. These are consummate musicians at the top of their game even if they were already road worn and pissed off at each other.

  5. J.... J....

This the Led Zeppelin song that shows off John Bonham 's mastery of the drums and style, not matched by any other drummer before or after him!

    J.... J....

Without a doubt, he was the best drummer in the world...

  6. C.... ....

I'll never forget discovering Presence while working in a record store during my VCU days. I kept looking at it and asking the owner hey man is this live or some kind of bootleg? I'd never heard it. This was nine years after the fact.

Fantastic music. All respect to John Paul but no keyboards and no frills despite two lengthy numbers? Meanwhile Mr. Plant had to deliver his vocals wheel-chair bound following a terrible car accident (months later which speaks to how bad it was.)

Of course Page worked like a fiend to finish on time. Why this album doesn't get a hell of a lot more respect...tin ears slagging it off wanting more elves and fairies dancing around in between guitar solos or something.

  7. P.... F....

Get the Led Out did this at there concert in Sacramento. Nailed it.

  8. M.... B....

In an era of taking a long time to make an album this was done quickly. Jimmy Page can play a studio like a violin.

  9. C.... B....

    17 people shouldn't have thumbs

  10. r.... ....

    Has anyone seen the bridge?

    r.... ....

    Where's that confounded bridge ?

  11. L.... R....

You just know that John Bonham was having a blast through this entire song. I can picture him grinning through the whole thing… Excellent tune!

  12. g.... y....

no idea why some people say Presence was a bad album.
    Its a great album

  13. D.... H....

I hear a lot of rap/hip hop in Bonham drumming with some James Brown thrown in.Remarkable drumming.

  14. M.... F....

LARARA RA YEA LARARARARA YEA BABE

  15. S.... S....

One of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs. Love the drums.

  16. 3.... ....

Used to play this with the ol' band, we had a drummer who nailed it every time, and when it was done you had to peel us off the ceiling!

  17. M.... A....

A shiver ran down my back bone.

  18. P.... C....

Fuck, it's 6 am and just had a weird dream of Angela Davis kicking me awake. LZ

  19. D.... R....

I used to listen to this during the 7 minute reentry thru the portal back when I traveled for the Air Force.. I don't care anymore as I only have 2 months left.. what can they do to me...fuck them

  20. E.... P....

    Dogtown and Z boys

    E.... P....

Cool you found Led from the movie... dig deeper, they are legendary. No joke

    E.... P....

@michael olson lol no, I've listened to them my whole life, silly!

    E.... P....

This song has a straight away rap beat with some James Brown thrown in.

  21. g.... ....

One of their more criminally underrated songs in my opinion

  22. P.... C....

I got hit by lightning 7 times.

  23. P.... C....

    I'm in heaven

  24. M.... R....

I've aged beyond a lot of rock, playing-wise, but I would absolutely love to do this one...and "Thank You". They'd really shake up my band's regular audience.

  25. d.... ....

Can’t even tell he’s playin a strat on this one. No matter what guitar he plays he sounds like jimmy page!

    d.... ....

A good guitarist will sound good, and like himself, no matter what guitar he plays. With that having been said, I could hear the Stratness on this song because I'm a guitarist and I play a Strat, so I know what one sounds like.

  26. D.... S....

*_Let me tell you now, babe_*
    *_Let me tell you_*
*_That it feels so good that it must be right_*

    *_Now my babe,_*
    *_Let me tell you_*
*_That it feels so good that it must be right_*
    *_Oh Yeass_*

  27. N.... D....

Is this the only Led Zeppelin song that features explicit language?

    N.... D....

I do believe so. Good ear 👍

    N.... D....

Yes. However, 'Tea For One' is also marked explicit on Spotify, for reasons which I can't figure out -- there's nothing in it that would warrant such a mark.

  28. T.... T....

    One of the greatest drummers.

    T.... T....

    T. Theo wrong the greatest imo

    T.... T....

As a long long long time pro drummer., you must realize there are ppl out there like Neil Peart and Mike Portnoy etc..... whom technically crush John B. BUT, JB's feel and groove is like no other, his son cant even duplicate it. @Jane Still

    T.... T....

    T. Theo Technical or not JB still blows them away im not a drummer but a lot of famous drummers agree with me that he is the goat and being technical reqires a lot of talent but i find it boring imo ✌

  29. M.... T....

    Presence was an underrated album

    M.... T....

I was ten when it came out. I had been listening to rock since I was 6 or so? Lol I had bought Physical Graffiti when it came out two years earlier with my allowance money. Lol I got Presence soon as it came out.
Right off it felt different. But if I was being honest, every Zeppelin album sounded different than the one before.

Bottom line-besides Achilles Last Stand, it didn't get played much. Within a few years, Bonham passed, and it was a wrap.

A couple years ago I had smoked a good joint and went for a driver kinda late. The radio station I had on started playing the whole album.
Not sure why? Or what? But it seemed totally new but not. I turned it up. Each song was revealing itself to me all over again. Lol
Again, not sure what or how or why? But Presence is near the top these days if I'm asked about Zeppelin. Just what it is now.
Btw did anyone ever figure out what the obelisk is on the cover? Lol

    M.... T....

Zep's worst studio album by far and it's not even close. I still cringe when I hear Fool in the Rain. Worst Zeppelin song to ever get considerable airplay

    M.... T....

    Yes it was

  30. J.... W....

    Ass kicking 🎵

  31. H.... U....

I played the Album in High School its has a lot of wear on it ! Now days I play the CD or YouTube. That Year had a ton of great music.1976. Ex: Jeff Beck wired. Boston Boston. Frampton Comes Alive. Robin Trower Live. Fleetwood Mac Fleetwood Mac. Lynyrd Skynyrd One More For the Road. Just to name a few. Very good Year in Rock Music.

  32. H.... U....

Best song next to Nobody's Fault But Mine. IMO.

  33. J.... D....

a lot of rock drummers kept basic time bass snare bass bass snare.... John Bonham took his drumming to the next level above. Can't think of a single song by Rush where Peart plays with a groove this good

    J.... D....

Agreed. Bonzo was too smooth for his own good

    J.... D....

What about spirit of the radio? I think that was about as groovy as rush got.

    J.... D....

Peart was a real metal drummer, wouldn't call him groovy at all.

    J.... D....

Technically Peart is a puppet! Never saw him or any other drummer drop the sticks and beat the fuck out of the drums with bare hands

    J.... D....

That's because he was the MASTER of triplets.

  34. M.... T....

    quebradera totallllll

  35. C.... M....

This song so fun to drum to!!!

  36. l.... r....

I had a girl that said this song made her horny , well hell, it got played ….. a lot !!

    l.... r....

Paul H damn feel bad for you

    l.... r....

That's crazy...I thought I was the only one that got horny listening to this.
Sorry gotta go...my panties are getting moist.

    l.... r....

    Girls might say anything dude!

    l.... r....

I was married when I was a damn teenager. The girl tricked me into it. ugh!

  37. s.... ....

Zep had the best change ups in their songs. tempo, timing, rhythm change multiple times during songs especially this album, but blended flawlessly. Perfection.

    s.... ....

Dude that's 1 of the gifts that made led great

  38. J.... D....

Take off candy store rock and add in the evening, perfect album.

    J.... D....

    Uh....NO! Its already perfect!!

  39. S.... G....

1 of Zep's best, a song about prolonged virginity.

  40. T.... P....

    toe tapper

  41. P.... S....

This song is on the Dogtown and Z Boys soundtrack. Great documentary too.

    P.... S....

Venice High Class of 1979. I lived Dogtown!

  42. k.... ....

Just about my favourite Zeppelin track behind Achilles

    k.... ....

After playing "Achilles Last Stand" (on drums) your drenched in sweat. After playing this song you just have a big ass grin on your face! Fun a hell!

    k.... ....

@TDK dude drenched in sweat and ready to have a heart attack. If you can really get Bonhams kick on that song hats off. I try and come close, I dont know if the bass drum is his foot or John Paul Jone's bass

    k.... ....

@Connor Clarke Think it's both foot AND bass. Yeah, got my right foot down but it gets tired by the end of the song (I'm getting old...58!). But it's those weird snare interludes that Bonham does in this tune, supposedly EASY, that always F*** me up. Ah well, I'm a drummer, not a perfectionist. 👌

    k.... ....

@TDK yes of course. Every drummer has their story

  43. J.... N....

My favorite LED Zeppelin tune LLa LLa La oh ooh 🎼🎶🎶🎼🎵🎶🎤🎸🎵

    J.... N....

1976 Presence was their last great album before things went to shit in 1977 The beginning of the end

  44. B.... P....

    Love it !!!! deerscreamer.com !!!

  45. m.... k....

    Smiling ✌✌

  46. D.... ....

    D.... ....

Ya know, Zeppelin's been my favorite band for close to 50 years and I still didn't know the complete lyrics to this song. Appreciated!

  47. G.... C....

This is the kind of album you get from 4 great musicians that had been together for 10 years ... very tight and extremely well recorded in the studio

    G.... C....

@Joey Huebner that is so true you really can hear it can't you Darlene especially I think I really do would have been something to see what happens right about then what kind of album they would have put out a lot of people were excited I got to see them in 1977 and I was ready I got a pocket full of money I have some money in the bank and my pops would have helped me go anywhere to see them he knew how important it was to me in 1977 I was just 15 years old in my dad and mom were very strict you did not want me to go in 1977 but I cried and told him has to be done someone's got to take me my brother and my cousin got the tickets and then when it was time to take me they abandon me because they knew my dad would kill them when my pops took me drop me off San Diego Sports Arena they played acoustic set and everything wonderful wonderful night but 1980 would have been something they were a lot older of course 32 and 36 years old which was old when you're 18 years old and if you read up Jimmy Page was kind of addicted to some things but I still would have loved it I was in high school my last year when the announcement came over the speaker at school believe it or not they announce it over the speaker that's how much respect a lot of people had for Zeppelin including a lot of our teachers San Diego was a huge Zeppelin fan

    G.... C....

'Tight' is a good way to describe this album for sure. Technically excellent, they had it figured out. Too bad this album doesnt get more respect or attention.

    G.... C....

@sergeantbigmac I totally agree I played this album 100 X in my garage when I was in high school The Neighbor Next Door would always complain she came over and knocked on my garage door and said who is that I really like that music it's very funky and I looked at her like funky because I thought Disco was funky which is not what funky is but at that time that's what I thought funky was. Like I always say tea for one if you listen to the solo starts around 4 minutes and 17 seconds. You have to really listen to it will change the way you think of this album very tight if that's the word we're all using

    G.... C....

Most underrated album by anyone. Ever

    G.... C....

Definitely correct, although Led Zeppelin was together a little over 7 yrs at this point ! This album is killer !

  48. R.... ....

Great drums from Bonham as usual

  49. R.... ....

Can honestly say this is one Zeppelin song I've not heard before. Nice surprise!

    R.... ....

If you never heard this song my friend, then you never listened to the album!

    R.... ....

    Rockers2Rockers 👀

    R.... ....

Right A lot of people did not like this album I never did get that but if you like this song listen to it from cover to cover there's some great songs on there tea for one has the Solo in it I think it starts about 4 minutes 17 seconds and it will change your life or how you think about guitar solos very cool you may have to listen to a real good maybe go back again one more time to hear every little knick knack

    R.... ....

It is a good song because a lot of people that are not into rock and roll or this type music love this song

  50. G.... P....

    Best song on this album.

    G.... P....

Without a doubt, Royal Orleans runnin a close 2nd!!!!

    G.... P....

    Achilles

    G.... P....

for your life, nobody's fault but mine, tea for one... Presence is underrated

    G.... P....

*_Two Ones Are Won/Achilles Last Stand_* is the epic masterpiece on Presence.

  51. B.... A....

    Volume's never high enough. :/

    B.... A....

Brainstorms AJ When you play Led Zeppelin, there is no turning down of the volume -- only up. 🔊

    B.... A....

Brainstorms AJ apparently it is for my old bitty of a neighbor, was playing In The Light through a tiny Bluetooth speaker, barely loud. And complains it’s too loud.
I was disturbing her precious T.V. time.
Funny thing is, I’ve been making a conscious decision to get away from T.V. and hang outside in the beautiful sun listening to some Zeppelin.
Pffff backfired on me big time.

Next time, I’ll crank up some Slayer. See how she’ll like that! Lol

    B.... A....

@Just a regular dude. Slayer would hurt my ears.Turn up the Zep.

  52. H.... s....

    H.... s....

Holy shit, it's a talking muffin yyyyeeeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh sex machine break beat times

  53. m.... k....

Lalala la la la la i am so happy when I hear this song

    m.... k....

    Well played sir

    m.... k....

I dig the bass and drums and I really do the whole song is pretty freaking awesome people say this wasn't a good album well listen to it from Back to Front and I mean all of it awesome album tea for one listen to it around 4 minutes and 17 seconds the whole solo will change your life will make you think about guitar and it different way

  54. C.... D....

    (°_>°) (°<_°) good song

    C.... D....

Conquistador Domingo Fernando , Thank You for making my day better. Your hummer is dry yet very funny. Thanks again Pastor Paul D

  55. G.... M....

    what a great tune

    G.... M....

A highly underappreciated track. Great fun to play on guitar too.

    G.... M....

What Zep song isn't fun to play? Page has to be one of my top 5 guitarists

    G.... M....

    They're not all great fun.

    G.... M....

Led Zeppelin just rules. End of story 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾

    G.... M....

klesh What would you say is an example of a Zeppelin tune that's not fun to play? I haven't found one yet.
