Led Zeppelin - Four Sticks Lyrics
One, two, three, four, five, six.
One, two, three.
One.
Oh, baby, it's cryin' time,
Got to try to find a way,
Got to try to get away,
'Cause you know I gotta get away from you, babe.
Oh, baby, the river's red,
Oh, baby, in my head.
There's a funny feelin' goin' on.
I don't think I can hold out long.
And when the owls cry in the night,
Baby, baby, baby, how do you feel?
If the rivers run dry, baby, how would you feel?
Craze, baby, the rainbow's end,
Mm, baby, it's just a den
For those who hide,
Who hide their love to depths of life
And ruin dreams that we all knew so, babe.
And when the owls cry in the night,
Oh, baby, baby, when the pines begin to cry,
Baby, baby, baby, how do you feel?
If the rivers run dry, baby, how do you feel?
Baby, how do you feel?
Ooh yeah, brave I endure.
Ooh yeah, strong shields and lore.
They can't hold the wrath of those who walk,
And the boots of those who march,
Baby, through the roads of time so long ago.

Led Zeppelin Four Sticks Comments
Its called Four Sticks cus Bonham played it with 2 in each hand. Nuts!
I used to listen to my this CD when I drove home from school as fast as I could. Good times.
Legendary cosmic stuff for your ear holes. To think, Zep almost ditched this song!

This song makes me feel like going to war.......❤🤘😡🤪
Wydarzenia! Martin.
Here’s a game, take a shot every time Robert says Baby
Fancyflashdrive Roller coaster enthusiast don’t, that’s how John bonhomie died
john henry bonham, greatest drummer of all time RIP
This is the best song off of Led Zeppelin IV. Change my mind.
Damn I miss high school
Led Zeppelin became one of my favorites bands when I realized nobody called complaining about the noise when I blasted songs in my apartment home speakers
Adam Ant fan in me loves the drums
Love you. I guess they will finish my time of dying. I am robbed of needed Christmas money and they demand my gas card. Slandered . Mary.Page.
Love you at 50 years. Miss you. Coffee? Mary.Page.
I love this song. Sounds so different too most zeppelin songs. Futuristic for 1971🤘
This song stirs so much emo. I cry most times when I listen to it. Reminds me of my ex husband
that's OK, actually it's cool
I think my younger brother is starting to take interest in my music. Just overheard him whistling Four Sticks in his room. I went up to his door and knocked, he opened and I asked "are you whistling Four Sticks?" He said "shut up" as he began to blush and shut his door. That's my boy!
Loved it at Purdue 1985. Love it still. Thank You.
2:33. The rivers run dry.
Contender for best Zep song ever surely
This song is so magical
He's actually playing this whole thing with his HANDS! Swear to God. Saw it with my own eyes!
This song when played for Lionel Hampton he became totally enraged. He said, "This is too much to process. "Whoever made this could not have done this just one man live." But that is just how it was done. And to prove it I played it at the Ampitheatre on Van Ness Av for an audience of 1024 people on 11/13/2119 ( I was 155 years old). I was invited after this concert to play live music in all music venues for money.
Starting at 3:04, what is making the buzzy drone sound during the bridge? Just a synthesizer or something more interesting like a krumhorn?

Fantastic From All 4 Guys! Pure Magic!! 💕💕
This is one of the best songs on the album. Don't trust anyone who doesn't like this song.
Best song is Stairway, for a reason.
@Dontvote ForAnybody Why? Because it tells you that there's power in Satan when you play it backwards? jk No it grew old a long long time ago for me. And I always found it to be a bit creepy (no not because of the...I think intentional... messages when you play it backwards).
I love the synths after the second chorus. They're so creepy.
If a chimpanzee could be taught to blow it up on a drum set, he'd have a poster of Bonham on the wall behind him.
Led Zeppelin: 1

So many highlights... but the vocals lock me in.
That howling by Robert Plant is so fuckin haunting it unbelievable Led Zep the best...........
Obsessive-compulsive track.

I've always lived this song. Just absolutely beautiful♡
if anybody is in any doubt that John Bonham was an exceptional drummer...

Great LP summer of ,74
John Bonham actually played this song while eating Chinese food with chopsticks
my favorite song
It's me? or this song has a Viking mood, Middle Ages
A breakdown of a Zeppelin lyric;
Say Baby a bunch of times, add nonsense in the middle, repeat baby baby baby.
A few weeks ago when there were positives surrounding me, I was able to make this song play in the air, no electronics needed, for over 24 hours straight. The song only paused when a negative energy entered the room. It was magic!!! Not my imagination. Who says Jimmy does not know what he is doing and is sloppy? They have not a clue about the positive powers of the occult..
Surprisingly,so many others like this song.I thought I was a recalcitrant Zepp weirdo. I welcome you to our precession.
I'm not sure why but the driving of the beat and sound always makes me think of a beautiful white horse sprinting through a pine forest in the dead of the night. Bonum is the rider. And he rides HARD.
I did so much acid at the time Led Zeppelin I came out that for many years afterwards I would get flashbacks when listening to it. Even though I hadn't taken acid for years before Led Zeppelin IV came out, this song in particular evoked a reminiscent feeling of tripping.

Bonham rocks. Like he is playing with four sticks instead of two and...
Listen to that young sweet voice
This was a MUST PLAY heading out on the weekends. It got your ass moving. Back in the day
I get spoonman vibes from this song
Some other from of entertainment media brought me here...does this upset a Zeppelin purist?

I dare say there's not a klunker on any of Zep's first 5 LP's...even Physical Graffiti is 90 % klunker-free.
Man, Bonzo really makes this great song come together! RIP Bonzo!
Ok, I don't know very much about music... but I think it's five lines of 5 beats, then a line of 7, three lines of 5 a line of 7, six lines of five, then that repeats... Again, I don't know very much about music, so I don't know how to write it out, but I count it out like this, from the very start of the song
12345
12345
12345
12345
12345
1234567
12345
12345
12345
1234567
12345
12345
12345
12345
12345
12345
then it repeats
We all hear music differently, and to me, it sounds like it needed to drop an octave for a couple of measures during the main verse riff of the song. It seems like a missed opportunity to not have done it at least once in the song. I've been drumming for 30 years, and if I just heard the music, I would have a hard time playing to this. I DO know that I would have gone for the tom work that Bonham did, but maybe I would've heard the rhythm differently. Sometimes it's just better not to think, and just feel and whatever comes out, for better or worse, is what it is, lol.
That why Bonham was the man.
All the comments about it growing into a favorite are true.
John Paul Jones , no other bass player like him
This song is a magic travel.
Listen how young Percy was <3
at his best 69 to 73
Fuckable riff tbh
Bonzo. If ever an LP was a "drummer's album" this one was it so many iconic drum patterns,
the man DID leave his stamp on the instrument.
Bonzo!!!
No one else could have sung this except Plant. No one.
I mean, they could, but....no.
Read the bio of Peter Grant, their manager the entire 12 years. The whole time, they only had a handshake with him, no legal contact. True. Also, he attended almost every gig. And, if he saw a person filming a bootleg, he just grabbed the camera.
Pure Genius
A great video of the 4 stick Bonham technique played by an amazing drummer.
https://youtu.be/dfLQaboaa84
4fuckin be sticks
Fuckin trippln out ohh baby
I love how the title refers to John using four sticks, nothing to do with the actual lyrics. 😊
I had a great deal of sex while listening to this album...
I also spent entirely too much time in my late teens running from irate husbands and fathers...
Who's daughters and wives enjoyed mt company.
I drank and drank and ........... well stuff other than drank...
I remember sweaty sex in the back of my old Chrysler.
Now I am old....But the memories ....... Awwww yeah!!
Happily I gained morals when I stopped being a drunk teenage hooligan.
Or I likely wouldn't be here typing this.
I know every Zep song intimately...been listening on and off for 40 yrs - and yet somehow I'm re-discovering them.
I hear you man. I've been listening to Zep since a small child. I know every song they've done and right now I am still truly amazed by the genius of Four Sticks.
This is my favourite on the whole album, the others songs are too straight for me. You have to remember Rock and Roll was the product of a break from the frustration of not getting Four Sticks right.
From 3:30 till the end plant is phenomenal
This song is giving me an orgasm
John Bonnem that's all!
Rhythm defined !
politic
Tasty keyboard in this track. Really tasty.
What a great song!!!!! I was 17 when I first heard it... still love it!!! I am 43.
O;hhhhhhhhhh baaaaabbbbbbyyyyyyyy
Fuckin a. 4 fuckin sticks rock on
A dazzlingly brilliant and original song
This song is spectacular
Ok not a bad thing but they definitely sped up Plant’s voice
Maybe a little bit, but there's a live version on YouTube where he reaches the same notes with no problems. Look for it.
I am sure that Robert's voice did not accelerate, at that time it was not necessary because his voice was perfect, I would even say that he does not use 100% of his skill as he used it in the Copenhagen concert of 1971
There they go again, kicking so much more asss.
The changes through the bridge raise the hairs on your arms. Amazing.
This separates them from their peers
Honestly, I don’t know how this is considered the weakest song off of 4. It beats going to California by a long shot.
FineJuggler is all in what your ears enjoy tasting
FineJuggler two completely different kinds of songs. But I agree, although going to California is still fantastic
I listened to Zeppelin so much when I was young I almost Zeppelined out.
Like the beatles were overplayed when I was a kid.
Learned it before.Trying to relearn.Old now lost some vocal range.I read somewhere that this was the worst Zeppelin song.Bullshit! one of the best.Tribal.And best vocal range
4 sticks are my fave.
I am 61 and have been listening to Led Zep since i was 13 I will never give up as long as I have this band
62 here.
Stay strong and keep going on in the light old breed!
You're old damit you should be listening to Lawrence Welk! (sadly for me I'm not much younger)
You are the same age as my big sister that turned me on to Zeppelin in the 70's. I still love and listen to them all the time. I was saving money to see them when John Bonham died.
copy that brother
