Led Zeppelin - Achilles' Last Stand Lyrics

It was an April morning when they told us we should go
And as I turned to you, you smiled at me
How could we say no?

With all the fun to have, to live the dreams we always had
Whoa, the songs to sing when we at last return again

Sending off a glancing kiss to those who claim they know
Below the streets that steam and hiss
The devil is in his hole

Oh to sail away to sandy lands and other days
Oh to touch the dream, hides inside and never seen

Into the sun the south the north, at last the birds have flown
The shackles of commitment fell in pieces on the ground

Oh to ride the wind, to tread the air above the din
Oh to laugh aloud, dancing as we fought the crowd

To seek the man whose pointing hand
The giant step unfolds
To guide us from the curving path
That turns our feet to stone

If one bell should ring in celebration for a king
So fast the heart should beat as proud the head with heavy feet

Days went by when you and I bathed in eternal summer's glow
As far away and distant our mutual child did grow

Oh the sweet refrain soothes the soul and calms the pain
Oh Albion remains, sleeping now to rise again

Wondering and wandering
What place to rest the search
The mighty arms of Atlas hold the heavens from the earth

The mighty arms of Atlas hold the heavens from the earth
From the earth

I know the way, know the way, know the way, know the way

Oh the mighty arms of Atlas hold the heavens from the earth

one of the most underated songs of led zeppelin ,you really feel in the sky . by the way anybody know what is the picture and from what movie it was taking?

    Top Lip

The album cover? I think it was a series of pictures produced for the album all including a mysterious object, which is supposed to be a representation of the band.

You know what that black object is? Remember Page was experimenting with faraday induction coils. It's a wireless router, conditioning you with various frequency responses, to be happy and GET WITH THE PROGRAM RECRUITS.

    Uffffffff so prety

At 17 I loved all of their songs at 27 now only later albums but those strongly. I'm 100% certain this won't change until my death. Which is kinda sad because your life is kinda done.

I've been a music addicted person for years now and I never stopped exploring the discography of worthy bands, such as Zeppelin. I've heard many, many amazing songs but boy, when I heard this song for the very first time, it was just something else. I don't even know how to describe the greatness, the mightyness (this is probably not even a proper english word but fuck it) of this song. I mean they were an amazing band and they're my 4th favourite band of all time but in this song...they all took it to the next level, all 4 of them. This is one of those rare songs were every single element it's giving his 200%. The drumming in this one is just UNREAL, has to be the best drumming of any studio recording. JPJ on the bass it's like a fucking machine gun, constantly powering up the song and carrying it through, Jimmy Page's guitar is all over the place but in such a good way and that solo....is just so intense and full of emotion...And finally there is Robert's voice which, despite the car crash, was still much better than many other "great" voices. I've been a musician for many years and the more I listen to quality music and the more I'm convinced of this : music is subjective but also objective, What I mean by this is that it's a FACT that a song like this one is a MASTERPIECE. So if anyone doesn't like a song like this, that person simply didn't get the gift of having great taste in music

Totally forgot about this song until I saw the cover! As soon as I heard the first few notes it brought me back to high school. I remember when John Bonham died and the person behind me wore a black armband for at least a week! Amazing drummer and band...so sad I never got to see them live!

I think this one and Pink Floyd's Sorrow have the best solos of all time. I still remember listening to it for the first time when I was 15 or 16. It blew my mind.

Gilmour and Paige, both vastly different but unmatched.

This song -- on first listen perhaps not particularly gripping -- lays eggs in one's brain that hatch a couple days later to feast, returning you -- now a minion to its wants -- nearly daily until the madness passes.

Sing, O goddess, the anger of Achilles son of Peleus, that brought countless ills upon the Achaeans. Many a brave soul did it send hurrying down to Hades, and many a hero did it yield a prey to dogs and vultures, for so were the counsels of Jove fulfilled from the day on which the son of Atreus, king of men, and great Achilles, first fell out with one another.

Led Zeppelin was the best band in the history of all bands. They put you in a trance, brought you to your knees, sweating and begging for more! The best orgasm in the world.

Love Bonham's drumming on this song. The amazing kick-drum pattern he was able to get from a single bass drum is insane! And the rest of the drum patterns and fills he came up with for this song..sound like wild horses galloping into the night. He never used a metronome while practicing... John Bonham WAS a human metronome! And he never used a click track in the studio. A producers dream as Jimmy Page has said repeatedly over the years ...

Not 1 rock band besides LED ZEPPELIN had this energetic quarto. Every band had at least 1 weaker link, not the Zep. Each of the member would be a superstar in any other band, and that's what makes them the greatest band ever to exist on this planet.

GRASSHOPPER: But Master, won’t running my car engine to listen to Led Zeppelin waste fuel and pollute the air?
MASTER PO: Grasshopper, the Zep is fuel unto itself, and enriches the very atmosphere of your existence. Besides, the accessory key position was created with Led Zeppelin in mind.

  86. Dan Mersch

GRASSHOPPER: So Master, if a Led Zeppelin song is still playing on my car radio when I have arrived at my destination, then I must continue listening to the song?
MASTER PO: Silly Grasshopper. You will never want to do otherwise. Always remember, “Respect the Zep.”
