Kris Kristofferson - Shipwrecked In The Eighties Lyrics
Well you fight like the devil to just keep your head above water
Chained to whatever you got that you can't throw away
And you're shootin' through space on this river of life that you're ridin'
And it's whirling and sucking you deeper on down every day
So you turn to your trusty old partner to share some old feelings
And the truth slowly dawns that you're lost and alone in deep water
And you don't even know how much longer there is to go on
[harmonica]
Like an old Holy Bible you clung to through so many seasons
With the rules of survival in words you could still understand
When they prove something wrong you believed in so long you go crazy
And you're so close to folding the cards that you hold in your hand
Singing Holy Toledo I can't see the light anymore
And the darkness is driving me farther away from the shore
Throw me a rhyme or a reason to try to go on

Kris Kristofferson Shipwrecked In The Eighties Comments
One more thing..... the quality of play by his long standing band members is also unequalled. IMO. :-)
Much appreciation BKKF for getting KK out there. Of course, KK won my undying allegiance 50 years ago when I first heard his endearing voice singing The Silver Tongued Devil and I. His unique way of grasping the words that encircle him is almost a magical thing. One of a kind man, is our KK. Being a legend carries a high price tag. KK has paid that debt in full. He deserves the honor.
Thanks, and thank you for commenting. And yes, he is unique 😊
Tally Ho .....Tavern...

*K, PITTSBURGH L❤VES U*
*THIS MAN MADE GREAT AMERICA*
*IF HEAVEN AIN'T LIKE KRIS I DON'T WANNA GO* 💕
Back in the early seventies, this great man first came into my life and made a huge difference. I was 18 and was doing national service in the army. I guess I was going through my own “shipwreck”. Honestly thought that the storm would pass and that a form of nirvana was waiting to coddle me into a joyful and fulfilling life. Any grown intelligent adult will tell you that isn’t how life works.
The storm doesn’t actually abate, it’s always there, somewhere waiting.
I just have learned to swim harder, stronger and made better use of the “lifeguards”, (family friends and any other root or branch that has been in reach when about to go under)
Albeit unwittingly KK has played a major part in my life!
Thank you for all the great songs, they really have made a positive impact.
And for all the great uploads THANK YOU! Have subscribed.

Gonna see him live here in Belgium in 2 months! Can't wait!!
This is my all time favorite song of Kris. Went to see him in concert list night in Des Moines, Iowa an lo and behold this was his very first song of the evening. He put on one heck of a show! The guy still has it. Just him and his guitar solo all evening. Tremendous performance!
Bill P Great to hear! Yes, he's been opening his show with this songs for years now 😊
People say is not Normal 12 years and huge KK fan i sat is normal
Alexander Hansen come sundown she'll be gone
I long for music like this today. There's nothing like Kris out there. Mostly just party songs or songs that objectify women. Not much with a whole lot of deep meaning.
Um you for meaŋ shallow?
A great song, ,,One of my favorites
Love this guy! He's 80 years old today, 23 June. My all-time favourite man.

I love this song, ,,,One of his best of many songs
i just want to say i love your music but i do not think you know anything about politicks. Nelson Mandela was a TERRORIST. Ok after he was released from prison everybody made an idol of him. What happened after he died SA went for the dogs. The people who are supposed to run the country are just filling their pockets and do not have a clue how to run a country and who are suffering the stupid people who arE voting for the ANC. They have promised them the world and what did they get NOTHING. i WOULD LOVE FOR YOU TO VISIT THE COUNTY AND SEE FOR YOUSELF
Eat shit
Hey Ray Gallacher ! Learn how to spell if you want to post a comment about Kris K. The great KK. does no wrong...…………….
@jr elliott Add another K and you've nailed him.
Gallkacher, not KRIS.
wow = these lyrics really speak to me; what a poet to be able to express this stuff.
As always, an amazing poet and activist. One of my favorite of his songs. I think he is truly concerned about the world, I saw an interview with him and he was talking about William Blake and how he said (paraphrasing here) that a person will never be happy until they are trying to make the world a better place, that they will always feel an emptiness. I am pretty sure Kris will never have to worry about that. And I am madly insanely in love with him, second only to my husband, since I was 4.
@Francine Scandalis if you watch the other Breakthrough videos with the playlist, he talks in them as well about a lot of things. Just in case you haven't already found them ...

I first met Kris back in the hungry days through Vince Matthews. The first time I hear him sing slightly off key I knew he was a poet far beyond the understanding of most people back then. His circle was small but strong. To hear him sing in the wee hours of the morning was like being in a different world listen to a language you almost had forgotten until you hear it again. Oh the familiar sound of truth and this was the 60's.
Thank you for the upload! You've really made my day way better... I love the song and to see him sing like that, wonderfull... Getting to see him live, was one of the best moments of my life!!!
Same here... Thanks for your comment!
I love Texas
..Help me it thru the night
..(my wife rings the meaning bell..
Me too, Kine!!!
I love when he sing this on all his concert openings, thank you Tina :-)
Just awesome.
He still does, Marie, and he will at the concert you're going to in November :-)
I believe harp player could be Donnie Fritz from good ole. Muscle Shoals
Phillip Penn Donnie is on the keyboard on the right, next to Billy Swan
Phillip Penn It's Glen Clark on the harp
Kris always opened his shows with this song (the shows I've been on), I LOVE IT, it's so real life, JUST LIKE ALL HIS OTHERS..
..I
Marie Haga He opened withe this in Dublin in June 2018
@CactassDupree yes, you did. But me too. I'm glad to have it on dvd. I really love this concert-docu.
Damn i missed a GREAT Conecrt !! Thanks biggestkkfan :)
@TriumphT140 This is really backwards lol Thanks for your nice comments. I also like Steve Mc Queen. He died much too young...
@samneno1 Having listened to more of his music I can understand why. I actually came about his music/acting completely backwards. See, I was born in '84, and Dad introduced me to Steve McQueen's movies when I was 10. So I grew up on those, as well as being a fan of McQueen. So one day I was reading a book on McQueen and in the middle they had a selection of pictures - and I saw one of Kris working out at Steve's. So I looked him up figuring he was probably another good actor from the time.
@TriumphT140 Kris has always been a favorite since th early 70's. His music is timeless. Met him once in Houston... A great guy.
Cash was always my standard when it came to this sort of music. I'm more of a rock guy. I heard this in the background while watching The Wooly Boys starring Kris and Peter Fonda. I watch Peter Fonda movies when I most miss my father because they could have been twins. This song hits me square in the soul. This man is brilliant.
Absolutely just plain AWESOME.....Thank you so much Tina...Love it!!
I was going through a very rough time in my life when I first heard this song.... and it was a lifesaver for me.... gave me hope.
One of many of my favourite songs, - you know..Love the lyric..-and Kris, love very much when he is clapping his hands..A great song..Thank you, Tina...for making everything all over again..
