Krauss, Alison - The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn Lyrics
Tell You a little story and it won't take long,
'Bout a lazy farmer who wouldn't hoe his corn.
The reason why I never could tell,
That young man was always well.
By July it was up to his eyes.
Come September, came a big frost.
And all the young man's corn was lost.
His courtship had just begun.
Said: "Young man, have you hoed some corn?"
"Well I tried and I tried, and I tried in vain.
"But I don't believe I raised one grain."
He went down town to his neighbour's door.
Sayin': "Pretty little miss, will you marry me?"
"Little miss what do you say?"
"Why do you come for me to wed?
"You, can't even make your own corn grain.
"Single I am, and will remain.
"A lazy man, I won't maintain."
He turned his back and walked away.
Saying: "Little miss, you'll rue the day.
"You'll rue the day that you were born.
"For givin' me the devil 'cos I wouldn't hoe corn."

Alison sings so well that I think her fiddle skills are often overlooked. So talented. As is all of them. They are in a different class above.
Greetings from Scotland, love it, regards, a good listener

Jerry duglass.... seriously.... sober=epic.... drunk= undescribable
Ron blocks tremendous talent, and Banjo pickin.
Both versions here far better than the studio versions.
If the hair on the back of your neck is not standing then you don’t have a heart beating in your chest
Awesome!
First saw this video in 2009, loved it then, and listened to it off and on ever since and now it's 2019. I've grown up around it haha, I recorded it on a flipphone for my ringtone, and then downloaded this video and cut to mp3 and burned it to a cd and drove around back roads listening to this on repeat with some cold beer. Love it
Who is that skinny guy playing Jerry Douglas' awesome, unbelievable dobro??
Ali Kat.. I Know you Must be elated that your old boy.. Robert Plant will be with ya finally...
Again as you Tour with Willies Outlaw tour Ummm HUUUHHH LOLGo have a Ball !
So good it makes my eyes leak.
For years I've loved this and I always come back to itb
When the bass first kicks in....goosebumps.
Dan Tyminski looks like 'Frank' from American Pickers in the clip but actually is a proper world class picker...... This jam soothes my soul..... Lap steel is so haunting.... Best from Australia!
We don't have real country & western any more thankfully we still have bluegrass
Hey Nashville...rinse, clean and repeat. OFTEN! We need more of this!
👌👌👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍amazinggggggg, ever since I listened to this when my dad played thre music on the stereo , I am so hooked and in love with their music ❤️🌸Gorgeous:) love love the instruments
Don't step the same stage with Alison unless your good....like Ricky Scaggs good...like Charlie Daniels good....these guys are that good.
It just don't get no better than that!!! WOW!
Allison plays a mean fiddle
You may argue about what genre of music you prefer, but a more talented group of musicians you won't find on one stage.
so much love so much passion , awsome..
Still get cold chills when he says, " he turned his back..."
A good cautionary tale.
Best words ever “why do you come for me to wed? You can’t even make your own cornbread? Single I am and will remain. A lazy man I won’t maintain”.
Amelia Labuszewski ‘Can’t even make your own corn grain’.🙂
I remember when I found this in 2005 and I was like oh I’m cool I like bluegrass and everyone else just knows top 40 country. It’s still kind of like that today in 2018. Only hardcore fans know this.
"CRAZY BOUT YOU..
LOVE YOU WANT YOU
ALL THE TIME ...."
PATSY CLINE
EXTRAORDINARY TALENT!
LOVE THE 🎶
SMILIN
The 134 people that disliked this video were obviously having very bad days
I love the way Alison is dancing :)
Trude Renken it makes you bounce doesn’t it?!
Mon dieu quelle maîtrise ! C'est exceptionnel !
Best part @3.03 when the dobro, banjo, guitar and bass kick in.
I actually came here from Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra. A Norwegian Bluegrass group. Try Their Red Box Concert. I can't believe I have never heard Jerry Douglass play this fantastic Dobro piece. YouTube's algorithms can sure led one down some unexpected roads. P.S, the rest of Union station are hot on this, also.
6:02 part, shivers
so beautiful world class players amazing
They need to make appearances here in canada cuz they are all awesome
You just cannot beat this stuff! It don't get better than this!!
It's very rare that you find a band where everyone is a virtuouso! And Jerry doesn't even need a band. But even he sounds better with them.
Here you go Celtic’s see how the Americans modified your music
Working magic .
Without a doubt some of the best musicians and vocalists that have ever lived! WOW!
The boy who wouldn't hoe corn, and got friendzoned.
OMG, this song reminds me of Grandma Lela.
Weapons grade musical talent.
Even if you aren't a Bluegrass fan, how can you not like this?
World class...!!!!
Now that's some serious pickin. Just sayin'...
I love this guy. Amazing
Thanks for making great Music ...
Totally responsible for bringing amazing Bluegrass to a younger generation . White mans blues .
got nothing to do with white or black.... slapnuts. The blues is the blues it aint got a color
Surely God himself plays through those hands. Those skills are from another world.
this band will never be surpassed.
Alison & Robert Plant have property 45 minutes from here in Austin Texas
Pinned on Pinterest !
in "Constant Sorrow" of his unhoed Corn
Texas "cant touch this"!
This would be a good black screen opening for a movie. The boy sneaks on a train at night and wakes up in a tunnel. When the music picks up the beautiful smokey mountains appear as his open car exits the tunnel. The boy is amazed by the beauty.
one of the greatest performances in life
Hurry up September 12th 2018🎻
Please GOD let me go to bluegrass Gospel heaven NO RAP!
What if I told you a person can listen to this and too rap.
Jerry is playing not far from me next month. I hope to be there. He is the king of the Dobro.
When I googled “corn hoe” I imagined something much different than this.
Thumbs up
What was u expecting and y was u looking it up jk
Stunning master class on how to pick
Simply Amazing!! Some of the best players going on here !
Like my late friend Albert said..."look at all dat corn growin round yer car gary... ALISON is one superb individual. Dan can hold his own, but WoW, can she sing and fiddle too!
Alison Krauss could sing an owners manual and still hit me deep down in the plumbs.
Dan...You are the BEST!
Oi OI OI Union Station! Oi Oi
Perfection.
I'm from the U.K and most people over here just don't get country. I grew up listening to Tanya Tucker, Glen Campbell and Tammy Wynette thanks to my mum's love of it....and THANK GOD I did! Just LOVE country, especially this kind of bluegrass picking style...proper musicians!!!!!
I like me a good corn hoe song.
Incredible talent starting with Alison and through the whole lineup. Bluegrass played and performed with a unique and very sophisticated touch..
Mind blowing performance...
Bluegrass taken to the highest level possible. Led by Alison, they all sing and they all play top notch . Outstanding. Absolutely great!
how could there be any dislikes?
WAASA WOODS FARM,MN rap fans
Ron is taming that banjo.. excellent work.
Words really can't describe how good this is.
damn, Ive watched this so many times....
Vocals. Period.
Jerry is the best dobro player ever. The band is insanely talented, and they have two of the best vocalists. Excuse me, Alison IS the best ever!
7:25 - OMG
When i listen to this i know i am drunk:)
Jerry Douglas is a magician on the Dobro. I love ALL the Union Station songs - they really make great Blue Grass music. Thanks for sharing - we don't get this type of music in South Africa.
she lost me as a fan when she hooked up with the likes of robert plant
This music is as fresh as ever.............!!
OMG! JUST OMG! Aww to hell with it, let me throw in a big fat WOW, WOW, WOW! while I'm at it.
