Kool & The Gang - Universal Sound Lyrics

Listen, listen, listen, listen
Listen, listen, listen, listen

Everybody gather here
We've got something for your ears
Listen to the sonic sound
It will make your heart a-pound
Playing music just for you
This is what we wanna do
Sing along if you can
Hoping that you'll understand

In the universal sound
Everybody gets down

Listen, listen, listen, listen
Listen, listen, listen, listen

In the universal sound
Everybody gets down
In the universal sound
Everybody gets down
In the universal sound
Everybody gets down

  6. B.... B....

I heard this in my dream last night!

  7. C.... V....

The real Kool and the Gang. The most creative horn section in the music biz. There sound changed to fit in with the times, however, they still held on.

  8. h.... c....

ONLY THE TRUE AND GIFTED WOULD UNDERSTAND,STILL IN 2018 AND BEYOND.....7/28

  9. a.... b....

    Nothing to do with islam

  10. T.... P....

USS Puget Sound 1976. We tore the roof off. The whole ride was funk'n..

  11. C.... V....

the real Kool & the Gang. and the horns were original and outstanding. James Brown said Kool & the Gang where the closest sound to his. me being a musician had a chance to meet some of them. Ronald Bell is creative mind.

  12. S.... L....

Just my opinion, but some of the best music ever made came from this band. This song is proof of that.

  13. A.... A....

This album was the quintessential sound of Newark, New Jersey and it's surrounding areas....E.O., Montclair, Orange, Irvington, and maybe NYC! Lol ....Went south/Atlanta (as we normally did durning for the summer) as a teenager, and played this album and they thought I was from Mars! I was forever traumatized..Lol That's when music was regional! Which meant we had our own "KOOL" style! Salaam!

    A.... A....

The SMOOTHEST sound of their time! PERIOD! Not to mentioned the sound is totally timeless right this moment! Think about it; UNIVERSAL SOUND? DAMN! Could you've imagine Barack Obama walking out on stage during his first inauguration of this cut?

  14. L.... G....

The evolution of the already "evolved" Kool and the Gang

Bought this cassette while in "A" school in the U S Navy in Millington TN in 1976.
This was the Love and Understanding album. Part studio and a Live concert I believe in London. Amazing musicianship

Sad that 3 to 4 yrs later (1979,80) they became a pop group/disco group. Ironically another amazing group from the era (Chicago) became a pop/ballad group almost around the same time

Kool and the Gang were a funk jazz group and Chicago was a rock jazz group

Sophisticated music doesn't appeal to the masses :-(

  16. V.... T....

Man come on!!! This is way better than when JT was with them! Trained musicians who stayed in the pocket with that FUNK!!!

  17. m.... ....

This song is so underrated. Baddass song. One of their best!!!

  18. o.... ....

Best horn ensemble in the history of R&B.

The JB's and EWF's are close, but Kool and the Gang was the best.

    o.... ....

Peace, and I would have to agree " Kool and the Gang " horns are tight and some serious arrangements and brothers were blowing at full strength killing it.

    o.... ....

K&G were definitely throwing down but y'all always leave out one the baddest as well and that was the Mighty Mandrill!

  19. D.... S....

The masses have fell sleep to the universal FUNK,sound of " Kool and The Gang "

  20. t.... ....

The first time I gerd this I was heaven.

Kool & The Gang - Universal Sound (HQ) 1970's

  22. W.... ....

Not only the best track from Love & Understanding. That´s easily one of the best 5 tunes they ever created imo. As good as Dujii and in the same more laid back spiritual jazz funk orientated direction. Killer Horns btw.

    W.... ....

    Watts, totally agree.

I have the album, and in my mind this was the best track on the album. The title track was a killer, and I like the live rendition of the immortal classic "Summer Madness" and "Sugar", but this was just a remarkable song with a vicious solo by Khalis.

Been a fan for almost 50 years, since "Live at P.J.'s " came out.

Their rhythms and arrangements were unmatched!

    C.... P....

    This is their best album.

  29. d.... s....

  30. D.... G....

    Number#1 1975 - Kool & The Gang / Love & Understanding

    D.... G....

Actually D'Artenya it was January 1976!

  31. R.... ....

The last funky Kool & The Gang album! My all time favorite album! The horns are off the charts!

    R.... ....

Open Sesame was good, but man I think the departure of Ricky West started their directions away from jazz...

  32. r.... g....

    T.... A....

Me too! When I was a kid in the 70's,this jam did it for me! I have not gotten over it! It still holds up!! I know just what you mean! I was a kid in New York back then

    T.... A....

The smoothest horn section of all 70s bands back in d' day! PERIOD! NEW JERSEY'S own, and yes not Ohio or no New York! East Orange, Newark, Montclair, and of course Jersey City New Jersey! Ya'll!

    T.... A....

Without question, and it isn't even close. Kool & The Gang's horn section was simply amazing; incredible ensembles.

    T.... A....

  34. N.... 1....

To be more specific, I mean on either their Anthology or Greatest Hits CD's. Because whenever I check out their CD's of past songs, this cut is never included!

  35. W.... L....

Mad props to that funky horn section! They really had it goin' on back in the day.

    W.... L....

Listen to the horn arrangments how they crossed those bridges back and forth like crazy, killing it.

  36. d.... g....

  39. R.... ....

Best album of theirs right here!

  40. F.... S....

This is what is was all about. Old School sound of hip, urban, progressive funk played with an Eastern flavor influenced by the Nation of Islam...something that  black men could definitely feel..

    F.... S....

Check, brother you just the summed up the overall Cool,FUNKY vibe of " Kool and the Gang " from that time period that many today still have not caught up with at all.

    F.... S....

    Absolutely! Straight 100!

    F.... S....

JOINING THE NATION HELPED TO MAKE THEM EVEN MORE DISCIPLINED AS MUSICIANS I WOULD HEAR AND SEE IT EVERY TIME I WOULD WATCH THEM PERFORM LIVE WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER IN THE EARLY 70'S AT THE APOLLO THEATER.

  41. E.... B....
