Kinks, The - This Time Tomorrow Lyrics

This time tomorrow where will we be
On a spaceship somewhere, sailing across an empty sea
This time tomorrow what will we know
Will we still be here, watching an in-flight movie show
I'll leave the sun behind me and I'll watch the clouds as they sadly pass me by
Seven miles below me I can see the world and it ain't so big at all
Well, this time tomorrow what will we see
Fields full of houses, endless rows of crowded streets
I don't know where I'm going, I don't want to see
I feel the world below me looking up at me

Leave the sun behind me, and watch the clouds as they sadly pass me by
And I'm in perpetual motion and the world below doesn't matter much to me
Well, this time tomorrow where will we be
On a spaceship somewhere, sailing across any empty sea
Well, this time tomorrow where will we be
This time tomorrow what will we see
This time tomorrow

Kinks, The This Time Tomorrow Comments
  1. A.... M....

Every time I get on board a plane, I play this song...

  2. J.... -....

This is how you write, sing, play and embody an emotional song. No overemphasis, just go with the flow...A good lesson for emo bands.

Happy new year. I see you're diggin this timeless tune. Pick up and instrument, grap some paint brushes with colors and a blank canvas, create and inspire. Be with freinds and family and live in the moment. And remember, forget the hate and learn to love. Why we're here living life may be a mystery but what we can do is make the most out of the time we have on this earth, so here's to tomorrow, make it a good one

  5. L.... M....

How can a train be lost? It's on rails.

  6. H.... I....

248 people listening to this song were made because all there house's were closed off in developments, and no where in sight was there an empty sea.

    BON SANG

  16. M.... K....

I bet they never imagined that tomorrow , music like this would be pretty much dead.

  17. B.... ....

They were ahead of there time. If i didn’t know who they were I would of guessed this song was from the British indie early 2000s era

  18. h.... s....

Well. This time tomorrow i'll be listening this.

  19. J.... N....

As good as Days in my opinion, just as moving

  20. a.... c....

Thank you Wes. I would never have known this amazing song. It still brings a tear to the eye

  21. G.... G....

It starts and you get hooked.

  22. R.... K....

This is an infectious album. So many good songs like all their releases

  23. j.... l....

Every time I listen to this song it confirms my respect & admiration for Ray Davies as a songwriter. 🤩

    j.... l....

    this is dave davies

    j.... l....

Anu this song is from the Lola album. Dave only wrote "Rats" & "Strangers" for this album.

  24. 1.... ....

    Such an amazingly beautiful song.

  25. E.... M....

    E.... M....

Stimmt, ich auch....Und bestimmt viele andere ;-)

    E.... M....

  32. W.... ....

152 arseholes thumbs down.. Or up there arses.ray davies is the finest song writer.. The kinks were and always will be a fucking Great Band.. My opinion.

  33. D.... J....

I think there are people who spend all their time bringing up YouTube videos just so they can give them a thumbs down. What a pathetic way to feel empowered.

  34. D.... B....

Good song, too bad young people have not heard it yet

  35. J.... ....

a bop? so calming? i love it? thank you lads?

  36. M.... ....

    WAIT! WAIT!

  37. T.... S....

I think i'm at a point that every happy song I listen to, my brain turns it emotional because I'm so used to listening to songs that are melancholic or edgy. But to hear songs that are happy, remind me that there is still hope that a day will come where I won't be so scared of tomorrow...

    T.... S....

Well said. I can relate to that a lot. Hopefully we'll all get through and see better days again :-)

  38. J.... G....

This single and the majorty of theres somos were ahead of its time

    Best song EVER!

  41. D.... B....

Good song, good record, still sounds good now after all these years.

  42. D.... ....

Sounds a little like “We Can Be Together” by Jefferson Airplane

  43. s.... k....

Totally true!!! Walking through a field full of houses!!! Miss the big masive swamp and ducks! Sigh!!! The posh houses have fucking fibreglass chimneys too!!! 😵

  44. S.... P....

  45. M.... A....

Such a great album. Good lord!

  46. Q.... R....

  47. J.... B....

I Love the Dobro Slide playing,

  48. Z.... D....

Ever since John Darnielle bad-mouthed The Kinks, I can't look at or hear that motherfucker the same way again.

    Z.... D....

Yeah well it took your comment here for me to even fucking look this guy up. I mean who the hell are the fucking mountain goats. I don't think Ray or Dave are losing any sleep that this guy "doesn't get them".

  49. A.... B....

Thank you Spotify(for introducing me to the kinks)

  50. d.... ....

    Way better than the beatles.

  51. s.... h....

    BRILLIANT.

  52. L.... S....

I would say this is one of my favourite tracks from them, but I could say the same for nearly all of their discography.

  53. A.... D....

That piano in the background sounds familiar

    A.... D....

In the original studio demo,, Ray actually played piano. then he reconsidered, and let John Gosling have a go. He made the right choice.

  54. C.... D....

    My grad song.

  55. 1.... o....

Hm. A song written on a plane ride? I'm guessing. All the lyrics relate to a plane ride.

  56. R.... D....

one of the greatest songs ever written & recorded

  57. K.... L....

Today may suck big time but what about tomorrow? Probably gonna be shitty too but at least I can imagine I will be somewhere better...

  58. F.... ....

The JetEire A380 commercial brought me here

  59. K.... L....

    Where will we be?

  60. S.... A....

Kinda speechless for real. Love Dave and Ray

  61. F.... P....

    beautiful
thank you wes anderson for introducing me to the kinks

  62. F.... P....

    wes anderson brought me here

  63. T.... P....

Ray is such a prolific writer. Dave always had great guitar riffs and tones. Mick’s drumming made the sound kinky. Bass players, keyboard players always good.

  64. D.... G....

This songs about the uncertainty of the future, the distant and not so distant. This time tomorrow, where will we be?

  65. T.... D....

one of my most favorite kinks songs

  66. J.... S....

The Kinks have to me the most underrated band of all time. Brilliant music and hardly ever get mentioned.

    J.... S....

Why? I see this over and over here and don't get it. They were huge.

  67. B.... B....

Love All Your Music! You guys really rock!

  74. P.... 4....

why is there only 76 commentd? come on people we need to get this out there a bit more.

  75. M.... G....

Life is like a pubic hair on a toilet seat, Sometimes you get pissed off 😂

  76. M.... C....

I want to embrace the lyrics. Swim in the river melody. Let its current carry carry carry me away. The rise and fall is lifting me up into the clouds and then dropping me. The rhythm repeatedly passing through my body, through my bones, my heart beating a dance to the tempo. I cling to the chorus, raptured, infatuated, hypnotized. I'm a whirlpool of warm emotion, clutching each verse, pulling it to my core. I'm holding on, the composition is a life raft and I'm in the ocean. I'm longing to be closer, to wrap the music around me. It's not close enough It's not close enough It can't get any closer but it's still too far away. Passing through me but out of reach. Love love love love love love love is breathing in my ears. I close my eyes. The music follows me. It scrapes away the black tar under my eyelids and replaces it with sunshine. A beautiful day at the beach.

    M.... C....

Wow. You should write some songs of your own. I have listened to this song about 50 times in the last 24 hours.

    M.... C....

You will appreciate the revolutionary album 'Eli and the Thirteenth Confession' (1968) by the New York genius Laura Nyro. Some of the most sublime pop ever created, highly sophisticated. Nyro is Rock Hall of Fame, Songwriters Hall of Fame, seismically influential, considered and artists artist. Even Kanye has sampled her.

    M.... C....

@Lupco Kotevski No use, noone will listen to the magic that is Laura Nyro. Seriously, her music is brilliant, yet ignored immensely.

    M.... C....

@niributh Sure she's relatively obscure, but I think more people are discovering her if you look at the rate of increase in her youtube views in the last few years. Her induction in the Rock Hall of Fame helped. We need Lady Ga Ga to do a biopic of Laura. Cheers.

    M.... C....

    @Lupco Kotevski Very true.

  77. t.... ....

Pure class. A brilliant song. Ray Davies wrote some of the greatest songs ever. Better than the Beatles by a country mile. The only band that came close to The Kinks was The Small Faces. Fucking magnificent on stage too. I saw them many times and they were always great. Love the Kinks.

  78. S.... S....

    that song

  79. V.... G....

  87. D.... C....

Love this song, everything about it. Especially the Davies brothers singing together. It just works.

    D.... C....

I love the way their harmonies are for a moment discordant then harmonize it creates this tense and climactic dynamic, I fucking love it.

  93. T.... ....

It baffles me how relatively ignored the Kinks are.

    T.... ....

Darien U Agreed. People who think the Kinks are sunny and happy are really missing the big picture. There are shades of hope, humor and joy in there, but also a ton of dark themes and colors. Ray is an expert at using the contrast and playing elements against each other.

    T.... ....

Adam Ray Davies' songs are actually misanthropic and satirical.

    T.... ....

They do have 4 songs in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. That’s more than most save for the Beatles and the Rolling Stones

    T.... ....

I think the name has something to do with it

    T.... ....

@Derek Martinez - no they weren't. They got on the wrong side of the music biz here
    , that's all.

  94. M.... G....

this song couldn't apply to me and my current situation anymore if it tried. this time tomorrow I'll be flying to New York for the first time and I just feel this song describes that really well. I think I'll be listening to this on repeat today (10/02/2016) and I'll still love it just as much the 20th time as I loved it the first.

    M.... G....

Mollie Green how is new york?

    M.... G....

Did you meet that bum on 110th who asks you what the greatest nation is and then promptly answers himself donation?

    M.... G....

you could perhaps try and become an astronaut? I didn't really notice whaat a good travel song this is before though, i'll remember the next time I go far away to put this on before I go out the door. been on repeat all day today 9/10/19

    M.... G....

I was the same way back in the old days, I would listen to this every time I got on a flight, Ray was thinking the same thing that's why he wrote this great song.

  95. b.... b....

i want more people to know about the kinks but i still want noone to know about them

    b.... b....

I'm sure Noone was well aware of them, Hermans Hermits covered one of their songs.

    b.... b....

Isnt that a strange feeling. People say about songs or bands they love,"why doesn't this have a million likes?" , then say " I stopped liking them when everyone and their uncle starting liking them".
Btw, I went to college with a drummer from a new haven area band called bleached black. Were you in that band? Is that why your mame is bleachedblack?. A long time ago.

    b.... b....

    Now EVERYBODY loves the kinks...:/

    b.... b....

Just got through telling my friend about this feeling. Seems most people know of, maybe even like the Kinks for a couple of songs, but the people who are into the Kinks are really deep down in their soul into the Kinks. And it feels so good to have something that you found, this wonderful thing that was there all along but now it feels like it's yours. About half an hour ago i searched for Supersonic Rocket Ship here on youtube, which suggested the Avengers soundtrack. Not gonna lie, it's made me feel a bit salty. Bleached Black, I share your love and I know your pain.

    b.... b....

DTOM, ¿eStamos? Yea popularity can ruin it mostly because its was your thing then everyone know likes it’s weird plus normie s kinda ruin everything

  96. J.... -....

Another kinks song that should have been a hit for any other band

    J.... -....

He's just saying that if any other band had released this, it would have been much more popular. The Kinks honestly do not get the credit they really deserve.

Fabulous songwriting.. beautifully crafted lyrics and melody with an amazing chord progression to back it up. And can't forget about those great lead licks..

I am glad though that there are people on here commenting and all respecting this greatness. It is actually kind of fun to have songs like this that are less known and only bring the truest of fans. I'm not one to call anyone a 'poser' because I respect anyone who enjoys their music of choice, but these guys attract mainly the fans that really know what's up.

Just my 2 cents. I've yet to listen to this entire album though, so I have to get on that.

    J.... -....

+Adam Bodeep Well said. Completely agree. The Kinks are a gem.

    J.... -....

Adam Bodeep Ray Davies and Dave are recognized in the R&R hall of fame, and Ray was knighted to Sir Ray. Up against the Beatles, they did very well.

  97. R.... M....

Great song from a fantastic Kinks Koncept LP from 1970 , it was the last full studio LP on the PYE label for it's original release - It follows the band as they get the number one song Lola on the charts and what effects it has on them and the managers and publishers etc.....A must listen and it taught me about the inner workings of the music biz at an early age. A music industry primer with brilliant songs from the genius of Raymond Douglas Davies :-)

  98. T.... M....

Damn Mick Avory lays down some sick drums on this track

    T.... M....

He does in every track ! 😃

    T.... M....

Yeah, his kick pedal sounds great against Dave's skull.

    T.... M....

    T.... M....

Mik is very underrated, just like the Kinks
