Kinks, The - How Are You Lyrics

It's been a while, I haven't seen you for at least
A year or more, or is it less? I can't be sure
Well, anyway, you must have heard about the
Troubles that I had, but somehow I got through
I always managed to... and by the way
How are you?
How is your life?
How is it going?
Are you still dreaming and making big plans?
How are the nights are they still lonely?
Are you still struggling the way that I am? Oh
How, how are you? How are you?

You always said that you would try to change
Turn a new leaf and start all over again
But I bet you're making all the same mistakes
You're a lot like me, that's why I'm still your friend
Still no offence, no more hard feelings left on silly sentiment
No harm was ever felt or ever meant
You go your way, I'm bound to see you on the street again some day
And when I do I'll always say
How are you? How are you?

How is your life? How is it going?
Are you still dreaming and making big plans?
How are the nights? Are they still lonely?
Are you still struggling the way that I am? Oh
How, how are you? How are you?

I know you're making all the same mistakes
You're a lot like me that's why I'm still your friend
I bet go, I gotta thousand little things I better do
Ah, but it was really good to talk to you
Be on my way, I'm bound to see you on the street again someday
And when I do I'll say
How are you? How are you?

How is your life? How is it going?
Are you still dreaming and making big plans?
How are the nights? Are they still lonely?
Are you still struggling the way that I am? Oh
How, how are you? How are you?

  6. T.... L....

I always feel like I’m the only one that knows these songs but then there’s gotta be millions of people out there that know them too. Why is that I wonder. 😆👍

    T.... L....

i dont know about millions....In america there is just me and a few other people. The Kinks are the best kept secret in the history of music. so dont go tellin everybody!

    T.... L....

    Dios salve a The Kinks.

    T.... L....

The Kinks are well known by the famous rock musicians of my country and they admite their influence. I hope you' ll understand what I'm trying to say, because my real language is Spanish. God save The Kinks!

Honestly, I was feeling bad. So I listened to some Kinks tunes. The pain went away.

    how are you robbie

  11. P.... ....

Melody exact chord like The Smiths "The Boy with the thorn in his side "

    P.... ....

PolitischTourette They're two completely different songs. A melody is not the same as a chord progression, although melodies can be derived from chord progressions, and vice versa. That said, the chord progression in "How Are You" is IV - V, one of the most common chord progressions there is. If anything, the riff chords sound a bit like "You Really Got Me", which the Kinks wrote twenty years before this song. Also, everything else in this tune is different from The Smiths tune: Verse melody, rhythm, chorus, chorus chords, chorus melody, etc. etc. Finally, the Smiths song only STARTS OFF with IV-V before going in a completely different direction.

    P.... ....

The Smiths?!?!?!?!?!?!?? He re-wrote "Tired of waitng for You" here.
Everybody stole from the KinkS, even them themselves.

    Ray Davies is a genius.

    B.... B....

    Indeed He is!

  23. L.... D....

Glenn, the kinks are better than the stones in my book....I loved the early stones, but after l968, never bought any of their records...a kinks fan till I die and Im pushing 64 this year.

  24. G.... P....

This one Kinks track from 1986 is probably better than all the songs the Stones have put out since 1985 or so lumped together...

  25. 1.... ....

    God save the King!

It's sublimely, intimate! You almost, feel that you are intruding on something you shouldn't!

  29. c.... ....

Great song !Great band ! Great song-writer !

@Hicksie52 Not surprised really. Fits for their idea about a good music. Yes, it is but not impossible via amazon if you have money, enough. Audio CDs; 3 new from $79.99 and 23 used from $9.00 + 1 collectible from $19.95. I have never seen that The Kinks CD is that expensive but my wild guess is that there are not many copies for sale. Luckily I have my precious vinyl =)

  31. P.... H....

@aiccu Very well thank you! I believe the album is very difficult to get hold of now. I had it on an old cassette and played it to death. there are some great riffs on it, that were later stolen by Oasis (now there's a surprise....!)

  32. a.... ....

@Hicksie52 Absolutely underated. Imo, this album just released, people kinda missed it, and never asked it again. It's a shame, really. This is one hell of a album. But a song like this, omg. How many songs like this there is, really? Not many, this is absolutely #1... How are you?

  33. a.... ....

Thanks for adding "How Are You" here. I have been looking for this in tube for so long. I only have Think Visual vinyl album. This is one of their greatest song, not The Kinks we use to know, but... this is a perfect. One of my very fave The Kinks song.

  34. J.... J....

@Hicksie52 I've liked this album since I bought it at latter eighties. It's heavily AOR soundalike but good varm songs like this makes big difference.

  35. f.... ....

    No dislikes. Exactly.

  36. B.... M....

    Always great! Always underrated! GSTK!

  37. P.... H....

Think Visual is a seriously underated album...wonderful tracks, wonderful musicians!

  38. c.... ....

"I used to struggle with the way that I am"
Ha!! who hasn't wondered how to explain it so perfectly
    Thanks Davies clan

    c.... ....

    Wow, you're right!

  39. k.... m....

Thanks SO much for posting this one-I've been hearing it in my head this season, especially. Love the Ray photo at 2:41. This was the first song on a mixtape that my ex sent to me years after we'd split. He had lots of songs from "our" time, too, but this one really grabbed me and held on. He's gone now, and I miss hearing from him. Hey TR, how are you?

  40. J.... J....

@dashoos2006 Thanks for me too. This is beautiful song, heard it first time almost same time when Think Visual was released.

  41. A.... ....

Thanks a LOT for uploading this song.....
It seems that I was not the only one moved and shaken by the powerful lyrics and beautiful music here, thanks!

    A.... ....

It's the finest poetry. You can almost imagine, Dylan Thomas, writing it!

  42. D.... C....

"Still no offence,no more hard feelings left or silly sentiment"..every line is quotable
this song tries to make me cry, and succeeds now and then...

  43. D.... C....

If I could only pick three Kinks songs to last to the end of my days, this would be one of them..Incredibly lucky to get to see the TV tour....Ray Davies....greatest social satirist of all time..

@jenzeppelin I agree- Ray is tops. It boggles my mind when people say TV isn't a good Kinks album. This song - and many of the others - are top-notch!

  45. P.... ....

Yes Bob, thanks a lot for this video!

  46. L.... ....

..."are you still struggling the way that I am?..."

How are the nights, are they still lonely? I used to struggle in the way that I am. Oh, how are you?

    PS. Nice job, Bob.
