Kinks, The - Holiday In Waikiki Lyrics
I won a competition in a little column in my local paper.
So I packed my bags and flew across the sea all on my local paper.
I sailed to Hawaii in the U.S.A.
I'm just an English boy who won a holiday in Waikiki.
Because a genuine Hawaii ukulele cost me 30 guineas,
And even when I'm swimming I have to pay.
I'm just an English boy who won a holiday in Waikiki.
Oh yeah, yeah.
Across the coral sands I saw a hula hula dancer, looking pretty.
I asked her where she came from and she said to me,
"I come from New York City,
And my mother is Italian,
And my dad's a Greek."
It's a hooka hooka on the shiny briny on the way to Kona[?],
And in a little shack they had a little sign that said Coca Cola,
And even all the grass skirts were PVC.
I'm just an English boy who won a holiday in Waikiki.
Oh yeah, yeah.

Kinks, The Holiday In Waikiki Comments
For me one greatest hit psychedelic from 1966
Second only to "Village Green..." as their greatest album . The beginning of Ray's storytelling....
Keeps Gettin' Better With Every Spin!!
sounds a little like "19th Nervous Breakdown" by the Stones
I came here cuz of your comment from that video
you sent me here
a little? I love kinks very much, but it's nearer to a ripoff
@Juan Manuel Santeiro
Different beat, different chord structure, different vocal phrasing, only tempo is similar. Both released in 1966
@Syd Barrett same way of singing same guitar sound..don't get me wrong: i am a huge kinks fan!!
WOW.....Just, WOW!!!! GREAT TUNE!!!
This must be how it feels to go to Rome Paris or London as a United Statesian and see it full of
Nigerians, Zimbabweans, and Somalians
No it’s not your racist comment
United Statesian. Really?
Lola is great but why can't commercial radio EVER play a song like this?
No kidding...
Too Kool, Wild Rhythm!! The square's couldn't handle it!! BRILLIANT!!

Commercial radio is clueless when it comes to great rock and roll. They have no taste whatsoever.
Because they gotta preserve something. I don't want every song by The Kinks to be ruined by commercialism.

Great song — and did you ever notice how much it sounds like the Beatles' "Paperback Writer" in the up-and-down note sequences, and the Beach Boys style? In fact, the recording of "Holiday in Waikiki" began BEFORE "Paperback Writer" was recorded between 13 April and 14 April 1966) but, of course, was finished two months after, and released after "Paperback Writer" (30 May 1966 in the US, 10 June 1966 in the UK). Who plagiarized from whom, we'll never know.
hey todd, fuck off
19th nervous breakdown is what I hear
With a bit of Chuck Berry thrown in.
And Last Train to Clarksville by the Monkees.
But all those bands ripped it off from "You Never Can Tell" - Chuck Berry
So badass
Ray should be knighted.
Lyle douglas he has been lol
I agree 100 % with you.
super group in sixties....
Great song.
