Kinks, The - Dandy Lyrics

Dandy, Dandy,
Where you gonna go now?
Who you gonna run to?
All your little life
You're chasing all the girls.
They can't resist your smile.
Oh, they long for Dandy, Dandy.

Checkin' out the ladies,
Tickling their fancy,
Pouring out your charm
To meet your own demands,
And turn it off at will.
Oh, they long for Dandy, Dandy.

Knockin' on the back door,
Climbing through the window,
Hubby's gone away,
And while the cat's away
The mice are gonna play.
Oh, you low down Dandy, Dandy.
Dandy

Dandy, you know you're moving much too fast,
And Dandy, you know you can't escape the past.
Look around you and see the people settle down,
And when you're old and grey you will remember what they said,
That two girls are too many, three's a crowd and four you're dead.

Oh Dandy, Dandy,
When you gonna give up?
Are you feeling old now?
You always will be free,
You need no sympathy,
A bachelor you will stay,
And Dandy, you're all right.
You're all right.
You're all right.
You're all right.
You're all right.
You're all right.

Kinks, The Dandy Comments
  1. K.... A....

Somewhere on this planet are10 idiots.

  2. T.... G....

Many people think this was written about Brian Jones, but In both Ray and Dave Davies own words, it was written about Dave's lifestyle at the time. -- "Dandy" was written by Ray Davies, and is the third track on the band's 1966 Face To Face album. It is said to have been written about Dave Davies, in particular about his rock star lifestyle, a claim Dave confirmed in the documentary Dave Davies: Kinkdom Come, which was first broadcast by the BBC in July 2011.

  4. B.... B....

Herman's Hermits' the same version, but Ray Davies witty singing makes this far more superior.

    Extremely underrated

  6. V.... T....

Oh my goodness! Woke up with that, “Dandy, dandy” singing in my head! Love this song! I can hear it over and over and it doesn’t get old!

  7. T.... S....

Apparently Ray wrote this in reference to and for Brian Jones.

  8. W.... ....

I was yesterday years old when I found out this was the original version. I had listened to the Herman's Hermits version a LOT before this.

I never even heard the Hermans Hermits version until this year.

There's another version by The Rockin' Vickers. Lemmy was in that band before Motorhead

    A discreetly brilliant song

  15. T.... B....

Written for Dave, who wore his hair long years before George Harrison or any other rock star.

    T.... B....

    your point ?

    T.... B....

He wore his hair long years before George Harrison or any other rock star.

    T.... B....

Basically someone from Kinks did something before Beatles but they took all the credit

    T.... B....

Actually Ray wrote it for Brian Jones.

    T.... B....

PJ Proby was before him,and Dave was a mans man in those days.
