Killing Joke - My Love Of This Land Lyrics

The sun is setting in on England's green and pleasant land
AT dusk I leave the town to tear the fences down
And I ignore the voice of education sighing and crying in my head

In the light of every dream, we're all coming home
Lazy days and summer haze, my love of this land

Memories of gentlemen and cricket fade away in the hot summer
But still they carry out traditions of the past without a meaning

In the light of every dream, we're all coming home
Lazy days and summer haze, my love of this land

New towns and concrete towerblocks, inhuman as they stand
And did those feel in ancient times, or was it just our imaginations?

In the light of every dream, we're all coming home
Lazy days and summer haze, my love of this land

This is a gem in the horseshit of 1988's album

  9. C.... W....

Sad yet true! But unlike Jaz I will stay and fight for my love of this land of my father's!

  10. M.... ....

I was hoping that this might be one of the tracks re-recorded for Jaz Coleman's Symphonic Killing Joke project. Mind you the way things are going, I'm not sure that Symphonic KJ is ever going to see the light of day. If I was was of those that had contributed money to enable it to happen (it was funded by fans), I think I'd be mightily pissed off!

    M.... ....

I see what you did there with your name ;)

  11. S.... G....

Speaking as a hardcore fan- I like the whole album but 1000 suns is the masterpiece of the bands period

    S.... G....

I would have to disagree with you Sebastian, as Revelations takes that honour, in my opinion. There are some very good songs on Brighter than a 1000 suns but it is let down badly by it's production; most obviously so in the drum department. At times, it is almost indistinguishable from Bon Jovi.

  12. J.... S....

Why was it ok for KJ to progress and explore musically but not for the likes of Discharge ? weird one that.

    J.... S....

Maybe because Killing Joke are VERY well connected and Discharge probably weren't. I get the impression that there is absolutely nothing working class about Killing Joke. Having said that; Brighter than a thousand suns didn't exactly get an easy ride and Outside the gate was almost completely ignored. After that, the more melodic side of their music took a permanent back seat and the heaviness returned with a vengeance.

  13. V.... ....

Maybe I just don't get the "joke" but I am really confused about Killing Joke's opinions. Are they nationalists?

    V.... ....

@Rubico Thx for the thoughtful reply. I agree with much of what you wrote regarding technology, consumerism, mass regulation, Ted, etc. About KJ being Marxists, what would it take to convince you? If you do an image search on "Killing Joke logo" a 100 pictures of the K and J in the shape of the hammer and sickle come up. That said, like much of the non-Jewish left, KJ are just useful idiots. They can't see that the banking cartels and multinational corps they decry are the same tribe that are pushing multiculturalism and ideologies meant to fracture the West.

    V.... ....

@Rubico Thanks for the link. I did read the part about Mishima influencing Love Like Blood and I'll read the rest later. Despite being a useful idiot, Jaz is a great lyricist. Maybe someday he'll read Evola or Junger and do a U-turn. There are plenty of artists who start off on the left and end up on the right. Not too many do the reverse.

    V.... ....

@Maceo Flux jaz is half indian dude ,,he hates racists ,,used to get bullied for being asian

    V.... ....

Well this conversation started off stupid but reached a very interesting ending actually. Now we can actually enjoy the music and still pose the question, rather than heavy-handedly dismiss it as either ‘Marxist’ propaganda or ‘nationalist’ depending how you see it. That’s whats great about good music. One way or another, the country is in decline. Killing Joke may have some crazy thoughts behind the scenes but for the most part their music questions, rather than tells you what to think

    Play this at my funeral.

  15. a.... r....

i dont fucking understand all the bullshit about this not being a proper KJ album it was a progression from the previous two, all synths and more goth tunes , yes guitars here are more conventional darkwave effects and picking and chords but that s what fits the songs overall, this album is a masterpiece.

  16. c.... t....

I agree it's more of a Jaz solo album but I adore it, this song in particular. The keyboard solo is gorgeous.

  17. b.... ....

i love the whole album.  much maligned by hardcore KJ fans.   gorgeous textures.

    b.... ....

Yeah I really don't get all the hate this gets. This one and Brighter Than A 1000 Suns are my favorites actually. I like the clear synth sound.

    b.... ....

Totally agree. I adore this album!

  18. A.... E....

    beautiful song

  19. E.... ....

an excellent tune in a contreversial album.

I really love all their stuff, even if it´s 70,s, 80,s 90,s or the brand new stuff! They´re just fantastic!

Love it. just got into KJ in the last year or so, and have avoided this due to bad reviews but i think it is another great album from a band that is always creative.

  25. E.... L....

Okay... I pointed this out a couple of years ago, but the image in this video is a giant, building-sized Dalek! On a total nerd note....I'd love to see the Doctor cope with a 200 foot tall Davros!

  26. s.... v....

    bellissima....

  27. a.... ....

oops actually meant NYC in April--

  28. a.... ....

Weird thing about the Joke is that I have listened to them since the 80s then all of a sudden I trip on something like this. These guys are unstoppable. I wish they would put one garbage can lid sized CD together with all their stuff on it. By the bye I am going to see them for the first time in NYC in March--c all of you there!

  29. G.... B....

    tremendous from jaz

  30. k.... ....

could never look at Youth's thumb!

  31. c.... t....

So beautiful,it brings tears to the eyes. As rightly said before, should really have been a solo album.

  32. b.... ....

beautiful piece of music. sounds more like the chameleons than killing joke but who cares.

  33. I.... B....

First KJ album I bought too (cassette actually) and hardly listened to anything else that year.

  34. R.... F....

It's best not to consider this true Killing Joke since it's totally out of place with the rest of their discography, but when you think of it as a Jaz Coleman solo album instead, it really is a very good album!

  35. p.... g....

@Loobs666 . Nice 1, after reading your comment i scrolled up then promptly laughed my head off..cheers.

  36. J.... ....

@73VW1800 yeah thats true but also he talk a lot bad about the "punk" section wchich he must change to make a progress with Geordie ...

  37. j.... ....

Uploaded 3 years ago and not one dislike; says a lot about this beautiful piece of music.

    j.... ....

Likes and Dislikes mean nothing anyway. This whole album was derided by ‘music critics’ who decided they knew better writing their newspaper columns than the people creating or listening to the music. When really it’s a brilliant albm for the most part, just different to their others.

  38. r.... b....

ACE IS THE WORD YOU SEEK.

  39. r.... ....

An outrageously epic piece of music. First KJ album that I bought and this track is a wonderful arrangement - you can hear JC's future orchestral work here - a masterpiece indeed!!!

    Cheers

    Alan

  40. V.... ....

    brilliant!, i love it!!

  41. M.... ....

@ahosek You are of course correct and as you say things were falling apart to the extent I believe that Geordie had left before the records completion. Whether that means before recording or mixing I do not know but either way it somewhat explains why this doesn't sound like a Killing Joke record, at least in terms of the production, which to my ears sounds overly polished and synthetic. Which in itself is not a criticism (I love Scritti Politti!) but it's just not how I like my Joke to sound.

  42. a.... ....

@MisAnnThorpe Geordie did play on it, though the guitars are way, way back in the mix. It seems that this was recorded when things were really falling apart, and I wouldn't be surprised if several of the more KJ-sounding songs were leftovers from 1000 Suns (this song included).

    a.... ....

Might have been a better fit on Brighter than 1000 suns than Under a southern sky; which I like by the way.

  43. f.... ....

A song to thrill and delight the English! Brilliant!

  44. E.... L....

Just out of interest.... Am I a bit pissed, or is that image of a giant Dalek?

  45. M.... ....

I've only ever listened to "Outside the gate" once, about 16 years ago. Having not been a fan of the single "America", I was very dismissive of the Lp. However, listening to this again now, I have to admit that this is melodically very strong. The production though, is very weak to my mind. Is that really Geordie on guitar? Let's be honest, it's not really Killing Joke is it? This is really a Coleman solo Lp. That's not a criticism just a statement of fact. Btw, I also quite like "America" now!

  46. f.... ....

    bravo coleman

  47. g.... ....

this album is amazing...the guitar lines and riffs are superb...maybe not as powerful as some other stuff, but definitely another gem in their discography

  48. R.... B....

    LOV this track

  49. E.... L....

I'd love to hear Kylie do a version of this... or maybe Mariah...ok ok, Britney ;-)

  50. l.... ....

    Good song

  51. d.... b....

A low point...? But then again Killing Joke are totally brilliant ?

  52. G.... P....

Love this song and Outside The Gate album...as all Killing Joke´s work acctually.

  53. a.... ....

    Brilliant!!! Gorgeous!!!

  54. j.... ....

i travel to another dimension when i listen to this song

  55. R.... B....

    top song, brilliant

  56. c.... ....

An absolutely magnificent track, by far the best on "Outside The Gate", and up there with the best KJ have ever done.

  57. B.... S....

By far, the best song on Outside the Gate, and one of my all-time fave KJ songs.

  58. R.... B....

this is great, one of their greats

  59. F.... ....

    Thanks!!!
