Kenny Rogers - Planet Texas Lyrics

They rode like they was Rangers
When they came out of the skies
They had high-tech horses
With beacons in their eyes

My gun was cocked and ready
When I looked into their face
I seen they weren't just common buckaroos
Born of the human race
No, sir, these cowboys came from space

Their shootin' irons shot laser light
And their spurs was anodized
Bandannas caked with stardust
And their jeans was pressurized

Well, he handed me a halter
And said, "Tighten up the girth"
But before I hit the saddle
We were miles above the Earth
And I mean miles above the Earth

Yippie-aye-ay-e

I seen London, Paris
Budapest, Kashmir and Tokyo
And there ain't no sight
Like a desert night looking down on Mexico

Through the moons of Mars and Jupiter
'Round Saturn's rings we rode
Past the frozen plains of Pluto
Where even the sunshine's cold
Man, I do mean cold

Then our interstellar stallions
Sailed through the starless void
There was nothing to miss in that emptiness
Not even a stray asteroid

'Til we picked up the trail of a comet's tail
Man, you can't even dream that far
And the gallopin' beat
Like the rhythm of an old catgut guitar
Just a-strummin' from the distant star

Yippie-aye-ay-e

Well, it could've lasted minutes
Or a hundred thousand years
But they got me down
I was safe and sound
And it hadn't even popped my ears

And they rared back on their broncos
And they shot a bolt of light
I knew they were the good guys
Yes sir, you got it right
'Cause their cowboy hats was white

So ask 'em as they pulled their reins
Towards the settin' sun
"Before you go, I'd like to know
Just where you boys come from?"

Well, they opened up a star chart and said
"Right here where this 'X' is
It's the biggest place in outer space
A planet known as Texas."

Yippie-aye-ay-e

My father has this song on an old
Kenny Roger's cassette tape, I remember hearing it growing up. This is one of the songs with many others that gave us the idea to take dad over to America this spring. My husband and I took my parents to see parts of Texas, Arizona, and a bit of New Mexico. The American Southwest is so different from the West Midlands here in England. I never really understood just how big America is till riding on your lonely motorways in the desert of west Texas to Arizona. Thank you for posting this song.

  17. T.... O....

I have heard it in the '90s and had no idea he mentions my city, Now it's 2018 I just realized he said 'Budapest' :))

I love Kenny Rogers songs so much.😀❤🎤🎸

  32. d.... ....

To be fair, the lyrics could use some tweaking, but the heart of this song is pure cowboy with a distinct sound and progression. You don't get innovation like this from most of the younger acts anymore.

  33. C.... P....

    2:17- John Denver?

  34. I.... O....

I'm surprised this only got 151,297 views after over six years.

  35. L.... B....

songs not great but a great story. I'm moving to
    PLANET TEXAS

  36. S.... C....

The only country song I like. My mom used to play this for me as a kid.

    S.... C....

Same here! Used to play in my family car growing up!!

  37. C.... Z....

Ahhhh, good ol' 240p we meet again.

  38. R.... M....

Let it be known that John Andrew Parks wrote this--a true genius.

    R.... M....

The song is also on John Andrew Parks CD. I like his version of the song as well.

  39. P.... M....

I really like this song and the music video was perfect for this song. I heard the music video cost $1 million to make it. I have this song on cd "Something Inside so Strong."

  40. c.... ....

Now we know what to name that ninth planet they're looking for out there.

  41. Z.... M....

Yes, yes and yes! Super music!

  42. T.... B....

Anyone catch the Roy Orbison signature? Was he supposed to be one of Kenny Rogers' influences or something?

    T.... B....

I think the signatures are a visual clue to help the story along.

  43. C.... E....

It's the biggest place in outer space A PLANET KNOWN AS TEXAS!

  44. M.... W....

To the man who thinks this song is stupid keep your opions to your self and let some people enjoy the song and live the fantasy if it thank you

  46. d.... ....

I still have this cassette tape. Name of the tape is Kenny rogers Something inside so strong and the 1st song side 1 is planet texas

    d.... ....

Used to have a cassette with this on the B side. it was only two songs; Planet Texas, and Side A was When You Put Your Heart In It.

    d.... ....

My younger brother married a Texan and yes it's like she's from another world sometimes. He wouldn't trade her for the universe though.

  47. C.... S....

I have always wanted to own a copy of this.  Anyone know if its possible to find this available?

  48. M.... ....

God how I love that there were no rules in the 80's. It lead to such original music.

  49. P.... M....

This was - hands down - one of the most stupidest videos and songs I've ever seen and heard.

    P.... M....

Yes, worse than 'Hey Mickey."  The entire concept is stupid.  "Planet Texas."  geezus.

    P.... M....

    I don't care.  It's still stupid.

    P.... M....

Oh, well, as my Mississippi mother would say, "excuse me all over the place, sugar."

    P.... M....

This is the best not the worst moron

  50. R.... J....

    that's bull sugar!

  51. J.... P....

The first time I heard this song it was 1989, and I was driving out in the middle of nowhere on a dark night with no other lights than my own headlights.  I'd never had anything like this to accompany me while roaring down the highway in the middle of the night.  It was PERFECT.  It's the only time I ever heard it on the radio, which was surprising.  Probably because it was so different, but that's why I loved it.  What a great story!

  52. J.... B....

I remember listing to Kenny Rogers singing Planet Texas I had the cassette tape and one of my Grandchildren broke it I loved it and had been looking for it for many years thank you for helping me find it

    J.... B....

I saw this video one time as a kid and have been looking for it for almost 20 years! I just made my son watch it! :)

    J.... B....

    you're welcome

  53. t.... r....

you have to be Texan to understand - Arlington tx. between dallas and ft. worth

    t.... r....

I'm not from Texas, and I get it, and LOVE this song DEARLY

    t.... r....

    Arlington is my hometown.

    t.... r....

Yeah, only Texans know about cowboy space alien invasions.

  54. J.... T....

i love this song I havent seen it in years

  55. F.... C....

I watched Cowboys & Aliens a couple nights ago.  This was better.  But not much.  Somebody should make a real creepy cowboys and aliens video.

  56. W.... M....

my sister used to hate me cos i played this song over and over and over on our vinyl record player

  57. M.... G....

It's the biggest place in outer space, a planet known as Texas. Great song by Kenny Rogers.

  58. a.... ....

fantastic you have to be a TEXAN to understand it. love it . my hats of to MR. ROGER for doing it. GOD bless him.

  59. N.... ....

God.... the recording of this EPIC music video is so shitty... isn't there anywhere on the net to find a clear copy? Everywhere I look, this video looks like someone got a handheld VHS camcorder and put it up to the TV screen. Thanks for helping to keep "Planet Texas" alive, though.

  60. I.... A....

Wow. Good vid. My pal was formerly a fat. He revolutionized himself from 290 lbs of fat into 215lbs of genuine lean muscle mass. Everyone was in shock. I just joined myself as I'm planning to get more impressive muscles. He used the Muscle Building Bible (Search on Google)...

  61. R.... ....

Been looking for this video forever, and calculator quality is all I can find, and this is the official KR channel? Please.

  62. R.... S....

You are correct. you can make your workout sessions much more productive if your eating the right foods to avoid fat and belly.

btw!but ye one of my friend working in fitness field suggested me this 7 secret food items to kill our jelly belly.

    check it out here bit.ly/19581af?=kvpxb

  63. J.... F....

    WTF is Johisfas?!!!

  64. P.... S....

Did you also record an acoustic version ? with only an guitar and without effects ?

  65. S.... G....

Hi this is a good video

  66. v.... ....

There's a recorded version that's much better than this. Does any one have that version

  67. J.... G....

Never cared for the song but I remember seeing this video on the juke box network when I was a kid.

  68. N.... ....

You weren't alone, man! I couldn't believe it faded into obscurity.

  69. N.... ....

You could be right about the timing, but I've never understood why it wasn't more popular when it first came out. Perhaps some radio stations and video channels were a little scared that listeners would have a racist interpretation of the line " I knew they were the good guys, 'cause their cowboys hats wuz white" - which would be trifling and sad. But, I'm just glad this quality music reached you in Japan.

  70. .... ....

Opinions are like arse holes.................everybody got one.

  71. N.... ....

No, this video ( and many videos in the late 80s and early 90s) hold up just fine today. Problem is, this video looks like a cheap recording of the real deal, so it looks poorer quality than it really is. I remember this video looking crystal clear and "cool fake" when it first came out.

  72. D.... ....

When this came out i was 8 yrs old. I thought it would revolutionize country music, or at least his career. I was wrong on both counts, but what did i know, i was 8!

  73. .... ....

Wrong time, wrong place I guess.
Look at the comments, it has plenty of fans now though.

  74. N.... ....

This has got to be one of the coolest, most epic music videos ever..... the consummate quality of the whole package should have made Kenny a mega-star. I can't understand why it wasn't more popular.....

  75. W.... C....

I first heard this and saw the music video when I was stationed in Rota, Spain. I thought it was cool then and still do!

  76. R.... ....

(XD) He mentions a city in my country (Tokyo). We played this on FM Jaga 77.8 and loved it so much I had to see if there was a video to it. I wish there was a better quality online, I looked for an entire day to no avail. :( I do now, however, have a crystal clear FLAC audio version. :) Rarely have there been any media that inspire me to do much research LOL. I think this was a bit ahead of its time. If it were first released today, it may be better received than it was in 89.

  77. .... ....

I agree. That's why I said it is poor quality by "today's standards".

  78. h.... ....

This was actually one of the most expensive music videos ever made when it was released in 1989! Unfortunately it flopped big time....

    h.... ....

His follow up single The vows go unbroken hit Top 10. This song hit #30.

  79. A.... F....

    I LOVE THIS SONG !!!!!!!!

  80. M.... ....

    excellent song.

  81. T.... w....

proof that willie nelson isnt they only guy getin stoned in country music

  82. D.... K....

my dad bought this album (Something inside so strong) when I was a kid. I ALWAYS loved this song! I had no idea there was a video! awesome

  83. K.... J....

I used to listen to this with my Mom!

  84. J.... S....

i saw him when i was like 9 and he was playing in ames, iowa. he played this and i was hooked. i love the horses that he put in the video

  85. .... ....

1st heard this at The White City when Kenny toured Britain in the 80's. He introduced it as a new song he had just written. It impressed me then, and even more so now.

  86. M.... ....

I discovered this song in 1994 (girl friends Tape)
i thought id play it & Loved this song.
& this is the first time ive ever seen this video!
    Great song!

  87. K.... ....

I remember being 7 years old watching this music video. It's one of my dad's favorite songs. I guess it's one of mine too because it brings back a lot of good childhood memories. Thank you for the upload :)

  88. W.... O....

i feel like someone might've poisoned the waterin' hole...

  89. m.... ....

This was my favorite song when I was 11. When I was 12, it was one of the two first albums I bought with my own money.

  90. v.... ....

I didn't remember the name of this song at first...saw Rogers perform it live on the Tonight Show sometime during 1989-90. Then I saw the video form on KFVS-12 Cape Girardeau, MO in 1994 or 1995 during overnight on a Saturday, as a filler sometime around the time they were replaying the Rush Limbaugh TV shows of the previous week.

  91. R.... R....

    I've always loved this song.

  92. z.... ....

    @guitarbrittany31 im jus 15 n i luv this suff

  93. k.... ....

@guitarbrittany31 (continued) I will be glad to give you the names of other great artists so that you can listen to them on youtube and then decide for yourself if you like them or not and then maybe download them onto your Ipod or MP3 player. Thanks.

  94. k.... ....

@guitarbrittany31 (continued) I will be glad to give you the names of other great artists so that you can listen to them on youtube and then decide for yourself if you like them or not and then maybe download them onto your Ipod or MP3 player. Thanks.

  95. k.... ....

@guitarbrittany31 Well I admire your good taste in music. There is a world of GREAT music from the 60s and 70s that you must explore. I grew up in the 60s and witnessed the "British Invasion" firsthand when The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Herman's Hermits, Dave Clark 5, Hollies, Animals and other great acts from England topped the charts along with our own American artists. It truly was a magical time for music lovers, like me. Let me know if you want the names of other (and there are alot) artists

  96. k.... ....

    @skittification You got that right!!!!

  97. G.... H....

Anyone who says that good music is rare these days, needs to look beyond the radio and television. There is so much good music out there you couldn't listen to all during your lifetime. This song however, sounds like a joke to me. Listen to Gerry Rafferty or Neil Diamond before subjecting yourself to this Disney Channel-esque tune.

  98. h.... ....

I agree with VincentVanHorn, once in a great while a good song will come out nowday,s thats good (none of them country songs) tons of great music in the 80,s rock, pop, country, etc.
