Kenny Rogers - Long Arm Of The Law Lyrics
In Cumberland Kentucky
On a cool hot evening
Billy lay in love with Marrianne
She was a rich judge's daughter
He was a son of a miner
The judge said to his daughter
That son of that coal miner
Is someone you'll go hell to leave alone
She knew his dad so well
She knew she couldn't tell
But the truth was bound in show before too long
Their love had started growing on its own
You can't out run the long arm of the law
No, you can't out run the long arm of the law
And he felt the baby's moving
Kissed her and said I'll see you when I can
The judge had made a promise
When he caught up with Billy
He'd sent him far away from Marianne
The whole town knew he'd do it
Too many times he'd proved it
To at least a hundred men behind the wall
He'd smiled behind that frown
And when he brought that gavel down
He called himself the long arm of the law
And he'd set his mind on seeing Billy fall
In a hot humid mine shack
A mid-white pulled the sheet back
And placed cool damp towel on Marianne
Billy's eyes were wide with wonder
From the spell he was under
When she placed the new born baby in his hands
He didn't hear the siren
Just a baby's crying
That miracle of love was all he saw
When the door came crashing down
And Billy turned around
He felt the heart and soul inside him fall
He stood face to face
With the long arm of the law
You can't out run the long arm of the law
No, you can't out run the long arm of the law
You can hide out for a while
He says with a smile
But you can't out run the long arm of the law
Seemed like everybody down in Cumberland Kentucky
Came out that day to see poor Billy's trial
The court was called to order
There sat the judge's daughter
She looked so proud
Holding Billy's child
When they brought Billy to him
The judge just look right thru him
As he held that Holy Bible in his hand
And he smiled at his grandson
Then his eyes cut back to Billy
And said I think this time
The law will understand
Son, I sentence you to live with Marianne
You can't out run the long arm of the law
No, you can't out run the long arm of the law
He said to Billy with a smile
I know you hide out for a while
Ah but you can't out run the long arm of the law
No you can't out run the long arm of the law

You can't outrun your fan's Kenny
This music Maikes me feeling fine. 🍄🍀
Who’s Marianne.
Hey Terry, Marianne was Kenny's wife (former wife) from 1977 - 1993. I'm pretty sure that, this song is/was his life story when he met Marianne
The very best country singer
This is really sweet
Kenny and Billy did it they won 🌹✌
Can someone please tell me the font used for the lyrics of this song
Was so long ago i made them i can't even remember mate i will try and find out.
This song should have been released as a single . It would have hit number 1.
That's what confuses me. How could this be a "greatest hit" if it was never released as a single?
This song is featured into the Greatest Hits LP
Why haven't they made this into a movie??
Sidney - agreed but they're too busy putting men in the backseat while women take over, or showing how evil men are in one way or another. To tell a nice love story seems out of fashion to these angry freaks. But if they made a good one, I think it'd be successful and refreshing.
kenni rogers maximo exponente de la musica cauntry nadie lo supera es un genio insuperable lo amooo desde argentina
When I first heard this I thought it was coward of the county
Me too. The seem to have same starting tune
Kenny Rogers the best singer of all time !
Thank you great sound.
"You can hide out for a while" but soon you meet your destination as the son coal miner and the judge's daughter.
thanks alot
good uncove story what is real
You know that to do list
Have you tried in vain
to keep doing them;
only to have your selfish ambition
get in the way, and rule the day?
I have.
You know that don't do list
Have you tried in vain
to avoid doing them;
only to have your selfish ambition
get in the way, and rule the day?
I have.
That list of (dos)
That we don't do
and that list of don'ts
that we do
because our selfish ambition
got in the way, and ruled the day
is our undoing, our sin.
This is why we need grace
cause we can't keep the law.
Grace plus law
is no grace at all.
"For all have sinned
and fall short
of the glory of God."(Romans 3:23)
"The wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God
is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord."(Romans 6:23)
So do you want law,
or do you want grace?
@Nancy Foix Grace
who the fuck are you talking to?
"Do not be deceived,
God is not mocked;
for whatever a man sows,
that he will also reap.
For he who sows
to his flesh
will of the flesh
reap corruption,
but he who sows
to the Spirit
will of the Spirit
reap everlasting life.
And let us not grow weary
while doing good,
for in due season
we shall reap,
if we do not lose heart."(Galatians 6:7-9)
Sooner or later
we will reap
what we sow.
Even with grace
in this life
we may reap
what we have sown,
But with grace
you will reap
the redemption
of your soul,
you will reap
eternal life,
Cause we have
a loving Father.
"The wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God
is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord."(Romans 6:23)
@Nancy Foix Is fornication still a sin?
Tayzed, is that Muslim?
why are you telling me? for i know every hair on your head, my child. Read the book of JOB, and psalm 13, and you will know, i am
Yes, but you can ask God forgiveness and repent and forsake your sins.

HE CAN'T PLAY POOL FOR SHIT, AND A MONKEY CAN CARRY A BETTER NOTE THAN HIM, BUT I STILL LOVE HIS MUSIC, SO FUCK U BIGTIME!
* Much of US Society has become a GARBAGE HEAP over the past few decades.
It was time for the damn law to understand!!! Let love grow especially now where there is hate everywhere !!! Peace ..
This song ALWAYS brings a smile to my face. I simply love it..the happy ending.
So old school
Kenny Rogers is the king storyteller
im hear cuz of VGHS!!!!!!
"The whole town knew he'd do it.Too many times he'd proved it,to at least a hundred men behind the wall...."
Uh,your Honor,I think there's something that you should know about your daughter...
That's what I thought the first time I'd heard this back in 84 or so.
I'm guessing those other men were convicted of various crimes unrelated to Marianne ;-)
"Son, I sentence you to life, with Marianne."
The best part of the song (3(3(3

i've been typing crap like 'kenny rogers song about having a forbidden baby' into google to try and seek out this song and i've finally found it. urgh i love this song so much
I was looking for it myself for years, I grew up listening to it on 8 track and then 4 track and then lost it, and I'm only 42 years of age, thank goodness for YouTube

If they ever made a movie of this, Kenny Rogers could play the judge.
I agree
Ahhh! Songs that you can understand, and that make sense. A lost art.
They still have plenty of those in bluegrass music. Try it out!
thats what ive always thoght too
thanks KR
] LIKE THE PLOT AND THE LYRICS OF THE SONG
It's a pity they dont make a film, and Kenny playing the judge....
And co-written by Roger Bowling! He recorded his own unique take on this one too.
amo esta canción kenny rogers es mi segundo más favorito artista solo despues de air supply.
This song decribes my dad so much when i was growing up.
This sounds very similar to the Gambler, don't you think? My friend was trying to sing this song to me but the tune was messing me up, having never heard this song before. :) Thanks for posting so I could come get all of the KR songs right in my head. :)
tyring to find it from vghs
love this song haven't heard it for long time thank you so much for posting it
long overdue great song
.........
My moms fav song...have loved it since i was young...aaaah memories!!! my parents are country music fanatics even tho we live in ireland steeped in trad music!!! love it love it love it!!!
It was one of two new songs added to the Greatest Hits album. Record companies have done that for years. Then you have to buy the whole album. The other song, Lady, has appeared on many other compilations since then. This song has mainly showed up on budget albums. Both are good. Now you can just download the songs you want and/or don't already own.
do you have grey beard?
No one sings a story song like Kenny Rogers. Thank you for posting this :D
hermosa canción gracias por compartirla!!!
Such a clever song that means so much to me long live kenny rogers :) :P
Thank you so so much. I had to listen to this song in the years while I was in my studies,Was looking for the song in youtube. The cassette I left in Dhaka where I was born. now Thanks a lot I can listen to this song.....God bless you
wonderful lyrics!!! and such a great voice!!!
i thought it was Coward of the COunty
The only thing wrong with this is that if you think the person you listed is the songwriter then you are wrong. The song was written by Billy Edd Wheeler as was Coward of the County that Kenny Rogers recorded.
loooove kenny his voice just sends chills down your back wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!
loooove kenny

@cfrait1968 Its beacuse the judge didnt like the fact his daughter was going out with a poor Miner so he wanted to kill Billy but when he saw his Grandson he changed his mind
my alltime favorite singer since i was 4!
finally got this song on cd took forever to find it
@kr4zyh great upload .
"Son, I sentence you for life, with Marianne." That line always makes me tear up a little
Unfortunately this song was only ever released on ONE album that Kenny put out... It was a greatest Hits 2 TAPE set and was the only new song on it... I believe it MIGHTR have been released one other time on a "Love Songs" type album he put out, but I don't know for sure... I would love to find this song again because it is my absolute favorite by Kenny Rogers...
