Kenny Rogers - Every Time Two Fools Collide Lyrics

You want things your way
And I want them mine
And now we don't know
Just where to draw the line
How can love survive
If we keep choosing sides
And who picks up the pieces
Every time two fools collide

You lay the blame on me
And I put the blame on you
But why do we keep finding faults
In everything we do
And how long can we keep right and wrong
So cut and dried
And who picks up the pieces
Every time two fools collide

We can save our love
We still have the time
Oh, I know there must be a way
That we still haven't tried
To keep our hearts from breaking
Every time two fools collide
To keep our hearts from breaking
Every time two fools collide

I saw Dottie at The Hodag Country Music Festival in Rhinelander WI, in July of 91. It was just before she passed do to complications from a vehicle accident. I remember thinking MY GOD what a beautiful and talented lady as I watched her show. I will always miss her and regret that she wasn't able to share more of her and her talent. That being said..I will always be grateful that I had the chance to see her. Thank you Dottie for sharing your gift!

    Aight - yo
I ain't gon' front, I always thought he was a survivor
Shells and rounds, held 'em down, when he was in the fire
Now feds got him tapped from the sneakers to attire
Just like Kanye West, speakin' through the wire
Like: "Don't forget, make sure you speak into the wire!"
Thinkin' not he was singin', he would be up in the choir...

  19. R.... S....

What a song! This is when country songs were great.

this statement comes from a musician point of view. The only thing I would have done different in recording this song. I would have had them do there on background singing instead of having anyone else on the track. Even though those singers sounded good, it took a little away from the song. Its like the background singers wanted to go in a different directions. Musicians please help me out. Lol

let me give you a little background on this song it was recorded and released in January 1978 it was written by Jane Dyer and Jeff tweel. originally Dottie West was going to record the song as a solo. As the story goes, Kennny Rogers showed up at the same recording studio Dottie was recording at. He was schedule to start his session at 10 am. She happened to run over the time she was to be done. The song she was recording was "Every time 2 fools collide." She ask him to sing the second verse and the rest is history. It made its way to #1 on the country charts later that year. From the first time I heard this song I felt in love with it. R.I.P Miss. West. R.I.P.

    R.... C....

she didnt ask him at all.....he was listening to her do this song in the studio and he started singing along with her.....after a few small changes to the song they decided it was going to be done as a duet

After all these year's since Dottie passed, I still cry everytime I listen to one of her songs. My favorite was was When Two Fools Collide. She had a God given talent. Her voice touched our hearts and she sang straight from hers. I miss you Dottie. Thanks to you, Jan Dyer for writing this song. It sounds like you must have been through some heart break when you wrote it.

    L.... D....

    I love her music too

  23. B.... M....

i have always loved Dottie West.......Every time two fools collide......i miss her

Their voices harmonized soo well! I just saw "Big Dreams And Broken Hearts" this week-end on VHS and according to the movie Kenny had booked the studio after Dottie and was just listening in on her recording session for this song. He made some suggestions to alter the song and then they ended up doing a duet. A neat story but I wonder if it's true.

Our time is too short here on earth. That kind of love lasts forever, we just have to try, work together and it will last.

  27. J.... C....

    This song is so beautiful.

  28. s.... m....

this brings back so many beautiful memories

    s.... m....

Yes it does. They were both mine and my husband's favorites. We went to see them in San Antonio (we lived on outskirts of Fort Worth) and it was one of the best time we ever shared.  Unexpectedly, a few months later that year, I lost my husband at 40 years old. I still listen to their duet's sometimes, but the memories are beautiful but so sad at the same time. I've never remarried. That's the type of love we shared. I miss Dottie still and of course my husband, Jim.
