After I lost my husband at 35, I never thought I’d ever have feelings like that for anyone for the rest of my life. But somehow, just two years later, I met a man who I actually disliked quite a bit. I had to see him three days a week because I was a dialysis nurse and he was one of my patients. For another two years, I learned to like him and we’d chit chat just like I did with all of my patients. Over the next two years we became the best of friends and would occasionally go shopping or to a flea market on the weekends, but just as friends. One year, Kenny Chesney was coming to town and the person who was supposed to go with me and be my designated driver had an emergency and backed out at the last minute. My “friend” overheard my conversation with a coworker and offered to go if I didn’t mind. Since that night in April 2006 we we inseparable. Neither of us ever danced at various parties or weddings because I’m very bad at it. We attended a wedding in 2012 and were having a great time and as I chatted with my brother in law, I heard the first few notes of this song and said “Oh I love this song”. There was my best friend, the man who came into my life when I thought my life was over. He had asked the DJ to play this song and for the first and only time, we danced and it was the first time he said I love you and he was the luckiest man in the world to be right there in that moment with me. We were engaged Christmas 2014 and finally planned to be married on the date he chose in April of 2018 on the same date of that first KC concert. Unfortunately he didn’t make it to that date. He passed away on November 6th, 2017 from complications of a heart attack. He stayed alive long enough for me to get to the hospital, hold his hand, kiss him, thank him, told him I’d be alright and say hello to those I have on the other side. His pulse and blood pressure dropped immediately after I whispered those words in his ear and he passed away with me holding his hand assuring him that it would always be you and me forever. So when I hear the first few notes of this song, I sob and wish I could go back to that moment at that wedding and have that one and only dance we shared to this song.
