Kelly, Paul - Reckless Lyrics

Meet me down by the jetty landing
Where the pontoons bump and sway
All the others reading, standing
As the Manly ferry cuts it's way to Circular Quay
Hear the captain blow his whistle
So long you've been away
I miss our early morning wrestle
Not a very happy way to start the day
She don't like that kind of behaviour
She don't like that kind of behaviour
Throw down your guns
Don't be so reckless
Throw down your guns
Like Scott in the Antarctic
Base camp so far away
Russian subs beneath the Arctic
Burke and Wills and camels
Initials on the tree
She don't like that kind of behaviour
She don't like that kind of behaviour
Throw down your guns
Don't you be so reckless
Throw down your guns

Kelly, Paul Reckless Comments
  1. R.... H....

I always thought Paul Kelly wrote this, but he covered it from Australian Crawl.

  2. H.... L....

This is a total treat thanks for putting up, find this version very nice to listen to and so relaxing

  3. C.... ....

Those are the WRONG chords. Well done from Australia’s most overated “artist”. Learn the fucking chords.!

  6. P.... K....

There is a large void forming over America.. It is because , Bob Dylan is suck so very hard. Have you had enough meat Bob.We Love Bob.

  7. C.... A....

Bravo an excellent song re done Mr Kelly!!!

    b.... ....

  11. P.... C....

A true gem indeed. I wonder if Paul Kelly and Bob Dylan have ever sat down and enjoyed a joint together...

    P.... C....

Phillip Charlier surely. Paul is OUR Dylan ey

    P.... C....

Just read he supported Dylan in 2001 and again in 2011.

    P.... C....

I saw that tour with Dylan in 2011, and Paul outshone the main act.

  12. G.... S....

A brilliant version of an Australian classic - Paul Kelly is a genius :)

  13. J.... G....

Kelly gets the lyrics wrong in several parts here.
Sorry, it's a fail from me.
A pale imitation of 'The Master'.

  14. G.... V....

thanks for sharing... have never heard this acoustic live version before ... great stuff

  15. S.... S....

He looks like Gene Pitney here.

  16. G.... D....

    Nice one.

  17. L.... A....

  19. M.... C....

    Paul did have hair?

    M.... C....

    We all did.

  20. w.... ....

I spent 13 years repairing vcr's. Eventually no one will remember them. Awesome singer/songwriter.

    w.... ....

Ya never know... vinyls made a comeback.

    w.... ....

if only VCR's started recording from the moment you pressed record then I might have had more of the intro to this video! I caught it just in time once it decided to start recording when it was ready feeding the tape and settling in to start working. I don't miss VCRs at all!

  21. R.... M....

    "MIMED"???
    SERIOUS?¿?
I don't think he's EVER mimed anything in his life... he just doesn't need to!! (It's just bad audio / video synch).

    wow.
    no...
    WOW!!!!!!!!

    R.... M....

Maybe, but miming was par for the course on most TV. Almost everything you ever heard on Countdown was mimed.

  22. R.... C....

    thanking you some more ta

  23. J.... W....

mmmm love the harmonica....sounds exactly as i would play it ... :-)

  24. J.... W....

    w0w.... :-) :-) :-)

  25. t.... ....

Stirringly beautiful. A gem indeed. I discovered Kelly in 84 when A&M Canada released Gossip here (and then backtracked all the way to the Dots). Been following him ever since. Arguably my favorite songwriter now. Thanks for this.

    t.... ....

Try Nick lowe in his later years . Another gem

  26. D.... G....

    😍😍😍🙌🏼

  27. G.... P....

is this song from ''australian crawl''?

    G.... P....

    Sure is mate

    G.... P....

    Again: No he didn't.

    G.... P....

No, HE DIDN'T. The song writing credits belong to James Reyne. Kelly covered it 5 years later.

    G.... P....

@Jaes Visual Artist Margaret River James Reyne wrote it

  28. K.... W....

I've recorded a nice version of this song it's on my album NEW DREAM ....I so need to do a video anyone interested?

  29. N.... M....

Add to that id love him to cover a pete doherty song. Inparticular good old days

  30. N.... M....

The best thing about this cover...is paul kelly would not have covered it unless he knew the song was that brilliant

  31. L.... G....

    Awesome :)

  32. C.... ....

A great cover, it is also on the Paul Kelly & The Messengers album Hidden Things.

    C.... ....

yes it is but its a far inferior version if you ask me on Hidden Things. Its full of lame orchestration and over-production that just washes out the guitar and raw performance of this track. If you ask me this is the best version here!

    C.... ....

+Col02177 ...I suspect this is the original..and he sold the rights Aussie Crawl..

  33. S.... E....

yes, certainly trumps the original version... thanks for sharing.

  34. D.... W....

why can't you like some comments on here?
It sort of makes sense now hearing this version...
Good comment Klaus...wish I could like.

  35. D.... W....

    Outstanding...record companies are funny animals
This was an excellent version...anyone know the year?

  36. S.... J....

I think Spin was the show hosted by Brad Robinson from Aussie Crawl. Used to watch the show but never saw this. Thanks for adding.

    S.... J....

youre welcome, I do think you are right! I vaguely remember Brad hosting it. I didn't watch it much but managed to capture this one performance. mostly they just played film clips but I remember they gave this performance a big lead-up the week before and at the time it was not available anywhere, it was just played at a few live gigs and the hype was incredible for it so this performance was the first time it was properly recorded and performed on TV

  37. J.... B....

Hey, those of us who really know PK know he just covered this for Hidden Things.... It belongs to James Reyne but PK does a damn fine job.... :)

  38. R.... C....

No Klaus, you don't have to go very far at all.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, that you may be confusing 'Reckless' with 'Careless', but you're seven shades of wrong.

  39. D.... C....

A quick search of Paul's site (http://www.paulkelly.com.au/albums?album_id=73&track=Reckless) tells us James Reyne wrote the song

  40. K.... L....

Haha ok mate you obviously you go a long way to prove you are right

    K.... L....

    Klaus you absolute numpty

  41. K.... L....

Sorry Glen, but I think you'll find Paul Kelly gave all the Publishing rights to Australian Crawl. Paul Kelly writes a lot of songs, and gives them away to other artists who might sing or play it better... It's a good way to make money for him, Paul Kelly himself even said he wasn't much of a singer, and more of a lyric writer... Australian Crawl would of had to give Paul a fair bit of the profits that they made from "Reckless". He wrote this song. And people should know that.

  42. A.... C....

    Go PK, you rock!!!!!

  43. J.... G....

    love this version

  44. a.... ....

    amazing :)

  45. P.... B....

    c.1990?...

    P.... B....

I doubt it. Too much hair for 1990. I'd say probably 1986 or '87...

  46. P.... B....

Love it !! Thanks for making the effort

  47. M.... W....

    Brilliant version.

  48. o.... ....

    Awesome! What a fab version.

  49. b.... ....

This is an awesome rendition of a great Australian classic.

  50. D.... ....

Love it! Slice of Aussie music history. Thanks OP.

  51. T.... W....

    Great find. Thanks for sharing.

  52. D.... ....

Love this guy, Yes it is an Aussie Crawl song & one that I love but Paul just gives it new life.
