God how I love this katatonic sentiment of the cold North. Epic melodies and vocals! Dudes make me feel how it's like to have six months night, even while I'm in the Mediterranean. \o/ **chills down my spine**

First three songs on this album are three of the best Katatonia songs ever imo. Forsaker, The Longest Year and Iddle Blood.

Funny how people say they copied Tools sound but both bands started right around the same time, they're just not as well known especially here in the US. I love both bands though, they offer different experiences in my opinion.

ditto aside from punching babies in the face I can't even begin to describe how amazing kat is. I used to be LDS, but after becoming atheist I decided I was really sick of Mormons since I had to deal with their shit for over a decade while growing up.

I went to an Opeth/Katatonia concert just a few months ago, and turns out two of the coolest people I met there were from Utah, and they were, you guessed it, Mormon. One of them was wearing a Death shirt. I'm still not sure how the music doesn't conflict with their religion, but it just shows you that they don't all suck.

Opeth died to me after Deliverance. Deliverance was their last truly great album. It's cool what they're doing with their sound now it's just not for me and nothing against anyone who still loves the band. I'm just happy everything before will forever be masterful musicianship and expert songwriting and melodic bliss. Blackwater Park is and will always be a masterpiece. Funny, Opeth gets worse with every release while Katatonia gets better...Fall of Hearts is their best work to date!

Chris jT — don’t talk shit about Opeth dude. Michael took a completely different creative turn which imo should have been a side project. they are different now but it doesn’t detract his brilliance because he is a genius composer, guitarist, vocalist, lyricist, and it is extremely rare to see all four of those qualities at once from an artist. Also Still Life is much better than Blackwater Park. Don’t get me wrong, blackwater Park is incredible album but The mix of the guitars in Still Life is superior. Still Life is severely underrated and it is much heavier and complex than BwP. Listen to Still Life 100 more times and you will understand!

Opeth does nothing for me, yes their musicianship is tight but the clean vocals that Akerfeld does is boringly monotaneous atleast to me. His death growls is still one of the best though and SOME of the lyrics are kinda umm ... i don't know which album it was from but there's this concept about an Atheist coming back from the dead to seek revenge against religious-nut who wronged him and his girlfriend, or something along those lines. I usually just ignore songlyrics but there's just too much effort for me to get into. Maybe i'm not into Prog Metal anymore.

I love the melodic sections of this, and proves that metal is multifaceted. I now have bragging rights for friends who believe this genre is singularly dimensioned in nature.
