Kansas - Lightning's Hand Lyrics

Can you see me, do you know my position how quick is your eye?
I have no home, no reason to roam yet I travel the length of the sky
I stretch my fingers jagged icy white 'till my energy's all around
My clutch is swift, my force is fearful I convey it without a sound
I live to free the skies from everyone, watch me run - watch me

The north wind rises, old man's eyes wondering deeply as he locks his door
He knows the fear when I'm too near him, he's seen me angry before
The black intruding clouds approach as I release a destructive blow
All the crashing, all the flashing light brings terror upon my foe
I fight with force and power for my land
I command the lightning's hand!

Run for cover - Oh your life is in vain if you try to escape me
Don't look back - Oh your wealthy world cannot save you
'Cause I'm gonna break you
I hear them moan, I hear them weep because they feel I belong to the devil
They feel the pain, and will again 'till they stop reaching up for this level
No one will defeat me, no one can
I command the lightning's hand!

  2. K.... ....

In Kerry's book, "Seeds Of Change" he wrote that they rigged up an effect that simulated the appearance of lightning and the lightning was to go into or come from Robbie's hand (I don't remember which), but it was for a concert in Houston. Kerry wrote that they didn't calculate quite right and Robbie got quite a ZAP

    smoking hot musicianship

  9. R.... F....

What's amazing about these guitar riffs is much of the notes are picked vs hammer ons, pull offs or sweep picking. Brilliant musicianship.

Why I think about Kakashi's Raikiri when I listen that now?
I watch too much manga I presume -_-

    B.... ....

One reads a manga, and watches an anime. The inverse does not work.

  21. G.... K....

Smoke weed and experience what it means to be a human assholes!!

  22. m.... ....

So....the Dream Theater boys listened to a LOT of Kansas when they were teens I'm thinking.  ;-)

  23. F.... ....

I love Kansas, mostly because they seem to know how to just let the music do it's thing and not muck it up with too much in terms of lyrics.

    F.... ....

Most songs before 1995..........less than 150 TOTAL words.

20% of all songs since.................300 words or more.

  24. T.... P....

    NOT TO BAD HAHAHA

  25. G.... B....

I wore this 8 track out in my '67 Firebird back in the late seventies. Solid album.

    G.... B....

Gary Brice loved this album also , my 67 firebird 400 late 70's

    G.... B....

Mine was a 400, too. Ahhh...the good old carefree days.

  26. J.... ....

Tight: beyond words. Sorry we live in such sucky music times!

    J.... ....

This was made back when record companies didn't know what to do but let groups make records. Maybe they should go back to not having their hand in music with the exception of making vinyl again. Music these days lacks the power it once had.

    J.... ....

Don Kirchner believed in Kansas, and it paid off.. Thanks for the comment.

  27. M.... H....

I like taking a nice fast ride on my old Kawasaki to this...

  28. T.... G....

4 people could not command the lightning's hand.

    T.... G....

OK. I'm gonna get in trouble but I gotta ask- which? Command the lightning's hand, do the cavity searches, or both? lol...

    T.... G....

    O hell yes!!

    T.... G....

    @***** I'm okay with this.

    T.... G....

The Guy I do think it might be DEEP PURPLE, check out " PICTURES OF HOME" from Machine Head, 1972, ... Hmmmmmmmmm...

    T.... G....

It's now up to 7. Ridiculous isn't it? What are they thinking? (They're not because they can't)

  29. H.... C....

    this song is about Laxus

    H.... C....

Ah yes. The Roman god of bowel movements.

    H.... C....

    You mean Fairy Tail, right?

  30. B.... ....

This right here is some epic rock!! I'd even say it's proto-metal, cause it's that fucking heavy. I always find myself clenching my fists and raising them to the sky when I listen to this song, like I'm a thunder god. How can you not feel alive listening to this?! Kansas for life!!

    B.... ....

Protometal. Kansas, Led Zeppelin, insert other bands here.

    B.... ....

Pink Floyd and Kansas; two of my all-time favorites.

    B.... ....

    Queen, Budgie, Black Sabbath, Rush.

    B.... ....

BestWayKilla They could have called it Thor's Theme

    B.... ....

@gabe6550 Zeppelin, Rush, Kansas. All unique. All great and all part of my formative, and current, years.

  32. O.... P....

When I first heard this album I thought It was about a team of super humans on a great quest. This song was about was either a bad guy like Spider-Man's Foe "Electro", or another hero like DC's "Shazam", or my personal favorite hero "Black Lightning"!  Or maybe both….

  33. O.... P....

I got caught doing "Air Gee-tar" to this song by my mom -she opened my bedroom door, and there I was in mid - ROCK... really jumping up and down on my bed, totally lost in the music…HA! I'll never forget that!

    O.... P....

@Old-Man Parker Me, too. But mine was a mic rather than a guitar. Those were the days, huh?

    O.... P....

    +Old-Man Parker

I don't play drums though I used to play woodwinds in high school (and was very good to some degree), but 20+ years ago I used to play air drums to some of the songs on this album for months on end.

At one point I had "The Spider" memorized in my head. I used to jam to this album so much so that I'd be sweating profusely after only 20 minutes.

    O.... P....

I got caught once by my mother too...but it wasn't air guitar...

  34. M.... ....

Man im 14 and i fucking love Kansas

    M.... ....

That"s awesome dude you get it!

  35. e.... ....

forever one of my favourites bands.just a kind of music that never will be repeated.

  36. t.... r....

at terrible thing nothing to be proud of nuc nothing to come home too

  37. p.... w....

    zeus would haved loved this

    p.... w....

    @phil whitesell So would Odin.

    p.... w....

Instead of having to command the lightning's hand they could just blow thunderbolts out of their arses!

    p.... w....

    Braveheart

  38. m.... ....

with dark side from 73 thrown in lol

  41. p.... w....

love the metal prog side of things

  42. z.... ....

Kansas played a little of this last night in Shippensburg, PA. Started with "Belexes" and segued into "Lightning's Hand." Great music.

    z.... ....

Melded well. Both had the same tempo and grove.

  43. W.... W....

one of my all time favorites

  44. d.... ....

1:24 REALLY tickles my fancy. I love tri-tones in music, being someone who enjoys heavy metal music a lot... I love classic rock too, and it's interesting to hear that Kansas has a song like this. :3

  45. J.... ....

One of the most epic songs in the universe

  46. J.... D....

Is this song about the Antichrist?

  47. p.... ....

this is such an incredible song and album.

  48. L.... H....

You want more heavy metal than it already is?

  49. A.... t....

When I was fifteen, I was in the basement discovering both of those albums. This was just a few months ago

  50. F.... ....

3 dislikes?! people and their Justin Bieber....

  51. H.... ....

    uh, respectful of what?

  52. R.... L....

it can't be to loud when it's this good!

  53. D.... ....

    Holy shit. This is incredible.

  54. j.... ....

@EccentricSage Most bands could not do this song. DREAM THEATER would do this song WELL!

  55. j.... ....

one of the best album covers of ALL TIME!

  56. o.... ....

@luvtotruck I just read up on Robby Steinhardt & he left the band he was never booted.... though he was tired of the over touring & conflicts with other band members but he mutually left the band he was never kicked out...

  57. o.... ....

@luvtotruck He got booted out? I thought he quit the band & left...... didn't want to tour anymore...

  58. o.... ....

@kimwildelover Like my Dad used to say "son you won't stay young forever" those days are gone forever - but that's what makes music like this so great - you hear bands like this & it takes you back to those days when nothing mattered but having fun in the sun!

  59. d.... ....

@Drsnafubar ah bon .....méme pas Magma ??

  60. D.... C....

You'll never hear complexity like this in the shit they play today

  61. H.... K....

It's like drugs through my ears!

  62. a.... ....

@razorbackxr No. The overtly Christian lyrics didn't start until Audio Visions. After that the overtly religious themes actually lead to Steve leaving the band. It's easy to find themes in music if that's what you're looking for. It's especially easy with a text as vague as the Bible.

  63. S.... C....

@MrDrProfessorJrMD Correction: That would be Thin Lizzy.

  64. J.... N....

@panosc2 -- if you listen to some heavy metal bands and hard rock bands of today, you can hear the influence Kansas has had on them. This is an incredible song by an incredible band!

  65. V.... M....

@danno5662Iron Maiden oh yeah I can even hear it!.. what about Disturbed? shit you could even make a movie out of this one song! or use the song for a movie like..The Flash? Thor? witch Superhero uses Lightning? Zeus is a God that commands the Lightning now he can kick Thor's ass anytime. LOL come to think of it ..Thor sucks!!

  66. A.... C....

    This song kicks ass!

  67. y.... ....

    KANSAS - get every albumn
Kerry Livgren - solo albumn - "seed of change"
Check Dream Theatre they may have a cover
of Kansas - They did good on Zebra

  68. B.... k....

    Great tune

  69. H.... G....

Man, I see all of these guys talking about nostalgia and it makes me wish I lived back then to see this music first hand.

  70. n.... ....

True. It's just a pet peeve of mine, since Carry on Wayward Son is my favorite song.

  71. G.... ....

there are fans and then there FANS.

  72. L.... H....

actually only kerry lievgren and dave hope became born again christians in the early 80s and began writing christian themed songs wich didn't suit well with the rest of the band so Steve Walsh left and he was replaced by John Elefante, also a born again christian, and this version of the band did like 2 or 3 more christian themed albums before disbanding, Walsh then reformed the band with Steve Morse on guitar and since they they've been just the regular non-christian Kansas.

  73. n.... ....

"Carry On Wayward Son," there is no "My" in the title.

  74. L.... T....

This song kicks major ass. Period.

  75. R.... 8....

I was unaware that "Carry On My Wayward Son" was by Kansas. Another fave of mine is Sparks of the Tempest and Point of Know Return.

  76. F.... C....

One of my favorites by them. It's always bothered me that most Kansas "fans" seem to not be aware that they've done several great songs such as this and "End of an Age", but instead just know of "Carry On My Wayward Son" and "Dust In the Wind".

  77. d.... ....

Don't know about 'Christian' but they were definitely very Spiritual

  78. T.... ....

    Steinhardt FTW!!!

  79. R.... 8....

And to think, nobody realizes they were actually a Christian band. Anybody who knows what to look for can see it.

  80. p.... ....

I couldn't agree more. It's like Kansas where the forerunner of Iron Maiden... Just listen to Belexes, you will immediately understand what I mean!!!

  81. T.... O....

Had this on 8-track lol. Good stuff

  82. E.... ....

One of my favorite songs! For some reson I realy want a heavy metal cover of this. lol (But only if it's well done and respectful of couse)

  83. F.... J....

magnifica ejecutaciòn, eabulosa fuerza en la cancion.

  84. P.... ....

thanks for slapping up all these old tunes.... Kansas was about the ONLY American progressive neo-classical band with virtuousity and depth... i just saw them again last summer....
