I didn't care for this song when I first heard it but it's kind of grown on me.

I think this is the best cut of the album the music goes excellent with the harmonies but by far the whole album is tremendous

All I can say is if you don't know for a fact what this song is about, then keep your opinion to yourself or risk embarrassing yourself. Remember, its best to remain silent and thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.

Elefante is definitely queer AF. Glad they kicked him out. This is a child tranny song "She's trapped in a little boys body..", and Fight fire with fire with all his talk of "flaming desire" is gay.

Around the time of this release, Andrea at a music store (forgot the name) had me listen to this. Great song. I think she could relate to it. She was cute. Always liked her. Should have asked her out.

Ok here's why Ronnie Platt was an immensely better choice than John Elefante as a replacement for Steve Walsh: With Ronnie they still sound like KANSAS and aren't putting out embarrassing material like this (and don't get me started on that album cover, were they trying to drive fans away?) While John has earned my respect with his post-Kansas material, Drastic Measures, and to some extent Vinyl Confessions, was "just a travesty."

Just... no. That album was one of the treasures of the 80s. Every song is good.

I'm listening to "Andi" right now, and it is a FANTASTIC song. David Pack from Ambrosia sings back up on it, and it is a VERY emotional topic, which is still a NOW topic, trans gender folk who are not afraid to make the change to what they truly are. This is actually one of my FAVORITE Kansas albums...

It's not a transgender song !!!!! it's about a little girl who longs to be an adult woman with curves and feminine looks eic. and not her tomboy like figure and features.
The narrator of the song is telling her that she can't rush it and that in time , she will naturally turn into what she dreams of becoming.

Kansas only made one bad album and this is it . What a load of crap . I've tried to give it a chance , but the more I hear it the more I realize I'm right . There's not a single moment on the entire album where I can say I like that part . Somewhere to elsewhere is my second least favorite , but at least I can find some moments in it that moves me .

+John King Kansas is one of my favorite bands of all time but Drastic Measures is a bad album lol . I honestly tried to like it but I can't . Phil Eharts worst drumming of his career lol . It just doesn't move me like the rest of Kansas material . Somewhere to elsewhere is my next least favorite and it's leaps and bounds better to me tha Drastic Measures .

I really got to say, for a prog rock band originating from the state of Kansas going through an AOR/ christian rock period with a lead singer who is a devout believer, to write a song about a transgender woman in a positive light in 1984 is pretty fucking neat. :)

This is not what the song means.

It's not about a transgender boy !! It's about a little girl who longs to have an adult womans body and not her boyish body and looks. The narrator of the song is telling her that in time it will happen and that she cannot rush it.

Isn't it obvious to everyone that "they think she's a boy; they leave her alone" is a reference to the expectations put upon young ladies by girls their own age? Andi wants to get past puberty and be accepted in society. This is a wonderful song that should have been a smash hit.

So this song was intended to be about a cis girl upset at not getting to go through female puberty with all the other girls, but some listeners interpreted it to be about a trans girl upset at not getting to go through female puberty with all the other girls.

It depends on the artist. Some artists, such as Betty Thatcher (Renaissance's lyricist) or Bernie Taupin, like the alternative interpretations fans have of their lyrics.

Sure, songs can most definitely be open for alternative interpretations...until you discover from the writer/singer this is a flawed and inaccurate interpretation. Then, you must honestly acknowledge the true interpretation of the song. Is this fair or not?

If this was about transgenderism, I would certainly write, "It is about transgenderism." But, it is most certainly not.

Not according to John Elefante it doesn't. And John wrote the song, so HE of all people ought to know. It's about an adolescent girl who wants to grow up and be a woman. I asked John about it at an aftershow at one of his concerts and that was his explanation. Seeing that HE wrote it, I tend to believe him.

Ahh, memories! I recall borrowing this record from the library when I was 10 and listening to it in my bedroom over and over... At the time, "Andi" was may favorite song on the album.
