K'Naan - Until The Lion Learns To Speak Lyrics

[Verse 1:]
Until the lion learns to speak
The tales of hunting will be weak
My poetry hales with in the streets
My poetry fails to be discrete
It travels across the earth and seas
From Eritrea to the West Indies
It knows no boundaries
No cheese
It studied in parts of Greece
(runtaa hadii kale waxaan lahaa aaheey)
I am sick as far as lyrics
And with this far as gimmicks
I spit par age and limit
The shit they talk in rapid
I am hip the hop as living
I skip the obvious woman
Don't get what I am presenting
No rims my mind spinning
(runtaa hadii kale waxaan lahaa aaheey)

[Verse 2:]
I was born and raised in a place
Where torn of flame would place
Where the foreigners not embrace
Where they warn you jog and pace
Where loners low what they gaze
Where the corners slow at a chase
Where they tarts and turn in the maze
With the pistol upon your face
(runtaa hadii kale waxaan lahaa aaheey)
So come with me to my longs
The death and deal we run
With passion see how I come
No cash I am free in the slums
The past can we overcome
I am asking we be the ones
To actually be the ones
To free our people from gun
(hadii kale waxaan lahaa aaheey)

[Verse 3:]
I was born and raised in a place
Where torn of flame would place
Where the foreigners not embrace
Where they warn you jog and pace
Where loners low what they gaze
Where the corners slow at a chase
Where they tarts and turn in the maze
With the pistol upon your face
(runtaa hadii kale waxaan lahaa aaheey)
So come with me to my longs
The death and deal we run
With passion see how I come
No cash I am free in the slums
The past can we overcome
I am asking we be the ones
To free our people from gun
(hadii kale waxaan lahaa aaheey)

[Verse 4:]
Until the lion learns to speak
The tales of hunting will be weak
My poetry hales with in the streets
My poetry fails to be discrete
It travels across the earth and seas
From Somalia to the West Indies
It knows no boundaries
No cheese
It studied in parts of Greece
(Hadii kale waxaan lahaa aheey)
Say I am sick as far as lyrics
And with this far as gimmicks
I spit par age and limit
The shit they talk in rapid
I am hip the hop as living
I skip the obvious woman
Don't get what I am presenting
No rims my mind spinning
(runtaa hadii kale waxaan lahaa aaheey)

Where the corners slower the chase
Where they twist and turn in the maze
With a pistol upon your face

So come with me to my lungs
The depth and be over run
With passion see how I come

old somali sayin even if the Lion learned to speak the tales of hunting would only be told to few accomplished hunters. some words are lost in translation but the gist of it is trade secrets remain within the circle that perfected them.

    A.... S....

    A.... S....

It's means if I would say

    A.... S....

It means "otherwise, I would say" and then the other people say "aahay" in agreement and sometimes they say "wakaa" which means "there you go" and then they say "runtaa" which means "you ain't lyin"

    A.... S....

hadiikale waxaan lahaa, otherwise I would have say.

  13. S.... ....

there are so many mistakes in the lyrics

    S.... ....

It is called updating while translating into a different language
    It has diffrent form
    But the core message
    Has being left untouched.
    Ka nan should be applauded
    For giving Somalis born overseas
And who can't understand the original Somali that these lyrics
Where written a chance to hear
    What thier old timer poetry
    Sounds like.

  14. m.... ....

Wow, love for Somalia, and if not for Knaan, I would only know what the media and such liars say. But because of his amazing heart and mind, I know a little. much love, mia

    m.... ....

+muna clear Very accurate. The elite know that by pitting people against each other, they're easier to control. I admire people who come here from another country. People have no idea the courage it takes, to go someplace where the language, the money, so many things are different. I am a Christian woman, and I love my Muslim neighbors. There are so many Christians who seem to have no idea what Christ came here for. Again and again, he spoke of love. Those who don't get that, it's so sad, like all he did was in vain. whew, I guess I had to say all that, because it does bother me. Peace.

    m.... ....

+muna clear thank you, bless you

    m.... ....

it was amazing right rather than its impracticable

K' naan did a good job! Let's dwel on the meaning of the words. Only poets can scan thru such great words and proudly can come up with adjustments if at all there is any. I do trust the poem and let everyone that Somalia contributed to the renown books of past historic peoms and more so to the current ones. Exception is unto the spelling of any prom! Congrats K naan and every one.

@***** Are you aware of Chinua Achebe's intereview in Paris in 1994 when he talked about the same proverb. "... Until the lions have their own historians, the tale of the hunt will always glorify the hunter." I wonder if this proverb is famous from Nigeria to Somalia, wow.

Abū Sa'id (RA) related a long hadith, in part of which the Prophet Muhammed (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:
"By Him in Whose hand is my soul, the Hour will not come until wild creatures talk to men, and a man speaks to the end of his whip and the straps of his sandals (shoes), and his thigh will tell him about what happened to his family after he left".
    [ Aħmad, Musnad (3:84 and 85). Ħākim, Mustadrak (4:467).

There are plenty of smart somalians. Not just in canada. All over the globe. It just depends on which values some have been raised with. But there are many groups thats destroying our people I wont lie about that. Whether it is some of our ppl or foreigner that keep doing what they doing. But it got to stop.

What he said is something like this:
"what for settler's was victory, for Indians was massacre". Until lions don't write the story the massacres will remain victories and the robbery of lands, justified.

  51. W.... C....

@guerillapoet theyre incredibly unknown unless you've been listening to rise against for a long time. and as for the poem, something by Rudyard Kipling. Yeah, it's an African proverb too.
