1 year on and still as good as ever

My ex broke up with me after I finished college and my life spiraled out of control. Like she not only broke up with me she had a daughter with my own brother. So it hurt. Then I started drinking a lot and driving around the United States and dabbling in opiates. Then my house caught on fire and I lost everything. This was within 8 months time btw. I got addicted to heroin and got my current gf pregnant while we were strung out. We eventually became homeless and were just doing heroin to avoid reality. She got locked up which was the best thing that happened to us. Cause now we got a healthy 7 month old baby and we’ve been off of dope for about a year. Moral of the story is that a broken heart can lead you to some dark places. It usually gets better but it might not be as good as it was before. That whole thing changed my brain chemistry and I’m not who I once was. I cant tell if I’m better or worse.

She has such a beautiful voice. I've been lucky enough to see Feist, Cat Power, Sharon Van Etten, Big Thief, Joan Waaser and many many more. Julia is better than them all live, with the exception of Feist who is Queen if the crop.

Its ironic that I found this song now. These lyrics hit so closely to home. Recently I broke up with my boyfriend of two years, he was and still is my best friend and there's nothing to describe the pain I know he's feeling. The worse part is that I can't comfort him and make it okay. We still talk and hang out with each other but its so obvious my company hurts him. So when he's with his friends or if he disappears for a day or two I have to remind myself that he doesn't owe me anything and I can't be the worried girlfriend now. Anyway, point is that this song is exactly what Ive needed and its helped me so much
