Some things stick in your memory.
30 years ago I was at an Iron Maiden concert. While we waited for the show to start the PA system played a mix of various rock and roll, to keep us entertained. Each song came and went , from Bob Segar to Heart to Billy Squire, without objection. Nobody really seemed to care what was playing... until Journey came on. Many in the crowd immediately began booing loudly.
I wonder if they still would have booed if they had known that Iron Maiden themselves had selected every song - including the Journey tune?
Maiden's Bassist Steve Harris, recalling the show, said in a subsequent interview that the boos surprised him , and said, of Journey, (and I'm paraphrasing), that "they're good at what they do" and that "you just can't knock it".

My experience has been that musicians often have far more eclectic tastes than many of their fans. I'd say that's especially true of metal and punk fans – and I've been hugely into both for a long time. You know who else is into Journey? John Lydon, a.k.a. Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols.

Totally agree, those in the early 80s loved their hard rock or nothing, and those that loved soft rock were the same. I myself loved Maiden, Devo, REO, and the different genres of music, but you couldnt let your rocker friends know if you liked the soft rock!! haha

An even bigger eargasm than back in '78! My mom bought me this album for my 8th b-day. My interest in drumming was sparked at age 5 with the first Bad Co album...but this album and seeing Jouney on Soundstage back then, seeing Aynsley playing that big set of Ludwigs made me know for sure: I wanted to be a drummer!

The Beginning of the Heyday of Journey. Herbie  Herbert helped mold this sound. Brought Schon, Rollie and Perry together to start the 2nd Phase of Journey!

This is an incredible song and would go on to showcase the Perry/Schon lyric/music writing talents. Look up the song's origins sometime. It was the first Perry/Schon collaboration ever written, completed spontaneously in a matter of minutes in a Denver hotel room when they were forced to meet by Journey's record label. At the the time, Perry had never recorded with (or even met) the other members of the group.
