Journey - Next Lyrics

Sitting in the corner of a room, thinkin' of you.
Wonderin' what you're doing now we're apart.
No use cryin', tears can't reach you now.
Memories, fulfilling dreams.

[Chorus:]
You used to be, so good to me,
I can't live without you.
I'd like to be, in your fantasy baby,
Part of you is me, wo-

Walking across the clouds, hope I see you there.
Be it day or nighttime, I don't really care.
Hope you see me too, before I meet my end.
Someone stole my life away, I can't pretend.

[Chorus]

This one goes out to all of you who didn't know that Journey existed before Steve Perry.

  2. V.... A....

This phase of Journey is the best without Steve Perry. What a wonderful record.

  3. R.... M....

Nothing compares to the first three albums journey put out. If you want to know what rock and roll is all about, just roll yourself at one and take a listen.

  4. O.... Q....

One of best Journey albums indeed. Great progressive rock sound they had before Steve Perry joined the band. I would have loved to see Journey on this tour. I heard that their performance at Cow Palace in San Francisco in 1977 was amazing!

  5. T.... C....

Such a Badass song. Schon is Ripping and AynsleyDunbar wow!

  6. Z.... L....

Next... The last record of Journey

  7. M.... R....

When I first heard this riff in 84 I thought this must surely be a well-known song. Shame it isn't. Something epic about it.

  8. J.... B....

Genesis Kansas and Journey were stealing from each other during this time.. all 3 were great.. journey had the most success$$ ..Kansas lyrically outshined the others and Genesis had Phil.C. and PG putting down some gr8 tracks.. 75-81 some if the best music was recorded.. infinity and look into the future are.my favorites..

Everyone Here Is Listening To This In 2019?!

This one reminds me of a Blue Oyster Cult song... but not sure which one. Madness to the method, perhaps?.

My Fiancee was taken from me August 17, 1987. This song always makes me think about her.

Hi Neal Schon , it's Rudy the guy who caught pneumonia at the Orpheum Theater Saturday night. it turned out it was more than pneumonia they're going to have to put a stent in my heart tomorrow morning and I'm a little worried about that but I guess I have to leave it in God's hands. just want you to know that I'm glad I got to see the Journey Through Time tour because you guys are one of my favorite bands and as of now you are my number one band because if I go to heaven least I could remember the good music I listen to while I was here on Earth I've been following Journey since the very beginning in 1975 when I started getting into rock and roll my two brothers got me into journey and took me to see you many times the first time was at Long Beach Arena when you opened up for Emerson Lake and Palmer then I seen you guys more times and I can remember but when I came home on leave from the Army I went to the Forum to see journey and the babies and it was one of the best times I ever had. I was born and raised in Culver City California and right now I live in Inglewood just around the corner from the Forum so this year alone I've already seen Elton John twice and kiss final tour. I've already bought tickets to see Michael Schenker at the whiskey but I can't seem to locate him so when and if I get out of this Hospital I want to go have to turn my room apart and look for those tickets. my first concert was Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon tour but I hope my last concert isn't Journey Journey featuring Gregg Rolie and Neal Schon. but if it is then I couldn't have picked a better last concert to see then you guys I love you guys and I hope I get to see you again

  13. R.... M....

the Journey Through Time tour at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles was one of the best concerts I never been to because these first three albums I was raised on. now 10 days after the concert I'm still laying here in the hospital and they're telling me that something's wrong with my heart first it was pneumonia now it's my heart. I'm not going to blame Neal Sean or Gregg Rolie or Journey for almost killing me but it's a trip how this turned out to be so bad of a deal I wish I never drank tequila that night even though it was just three shots.

  14. R.... C....

Saw them ny.. look into future tour.. then next tour both 14st nyc .palldium/academy.then all perry era tours till frontiers.then when new lineup came after that .i was gone .but 1st 3 albums great..perry thru frontiers gd also .

  15. B.... B....

    Very great song!

  16. S.... R....

Good tune. Also like "Here we are"

  17. G.... M....

¡¡Por Dios!! ¡Qué pedazo de tema!

  18. R.... P....

These first 3 from Journey are great stuff. The guitar work on them. I'm not going to dis on Perry. I like Infinity, Evo, and Departure also. Yeah, it was just like when Sammy Hagar joined Van Halen, they turned into a whole different band. But I think they really changed enter Cain. Forget about "Don't Stop Believin' " and "Open Arms" and "Separate Ways" when you get the first 3 albums out. It's not the same Journey the average Journey fan from the 80s is use to.

  19. s.... ....

i think this lineup could've had more success if they stuck with it; but their manager had other ideas which fortunatly worked out.

  20. S.... J....

lol you guys talking about oh I loved this band until steve perry came along hahaha that's like saying I loved the Chicago Bulls until michael jordan came along. hahah perry is the greatest

    S.... J....

Typical no-brain pop head reaction. 'The only thing that matters is the vocals! Who cares about the instruments, anyone could be playing, it doesn't matter it just backs up the singer." They should have changed their name to Steve Perry and the magoos

    S.... J....

@Lee Smith There was already a group from the '60s called the "Blue's Magoos." They were a pretty good band. But you're right in that anyone could be playing and Steve Perry could sing for them.

  21. B.... G....

That Power house Drummer DunBar !!! Watched them warm up Emerson Lake and Palmer

  22. g.... ....

If Neil still has the afro, you're in good shape. Old journey = quality classic rock.

  23. J.... M....

Great stuff not many folks know about.

  24. F.... G....

    Dunbar !!

  25. R.... C....

While I agree that the addition of Perry was the beginning of the Journey's long, sad slide from real rock into pop, I have to say that "Infinity" is still my favorite album followed by the first three. But even on "Infinity" you could hear the softening of their hard rock edge. I think it was the best blend of Perry's voice and the original band's musical sensibilities. It's just too bad that they couldn't find a way to make it work. Dunbar, Schonn and Rollie were three of the most gifted musicians of the era.

    R.... C....

Russ Christian , it is the best Steve album.

    R.... C....

It is the last good album in my view. Because Rollie still sings and the instrumental expression is still there. I actually really dig Infinity but I relate to it in a different way than I relate to the first 3. Infinity was the beginning of the end, the transition from sheer musical talent and expression to palpable, watered-down commercial bubble gum rock. Perhaps because I dislike what Journey became and why it became it, this colors my perception and makes me refuse to call infinity Journey's BEST album...
I will say "IN THE BEGINNING" is their BEST album as it is a culmination of the first three.

  26. T.... V....

    now they are copying Genesis

  27. M.... J....

Still, I will always be partial to G. Roli.

  28. M.... J....

journey rocks no matter how you slice it, Roli seemed more effortless in performance. it seemed to be smoother with the instruments, lead guitar more highlighted, no competition with Perrys voice, which is phenominal, as well. he can sound just like a chord on the guitar.

  29. l.... ....

I LOVED Journey until Steve Perry messed up the band. Please have a re-union playing your first three albums. I will travel!

    l.... ....

    Thank you so much!

    l.... ....

    @brian leblanc I always liked Neal Schon's voice.Spaceman.

    l.... ....

    I loved them too
I must give it to Steve, tough act follow. His voice does emulate guitar chords, any and all of them and his range is a trip, still, NEXT is my favorite song. When first I heard it, I was young and carefree. Oh well, we just keep on trucking and smiling and hold on to our joy, no matter the size. Merry Christmas. Check out Puddles the Clown, he has Christmas music and it's awesome.

    l.... ....

Adding Perry to the lineup in terms of commercial success was the smartest move they could have made. If you are not selling out stadiums and making a living then you are playing small venues and scraping by. Schon, Cain, and Perry wrote some magic together. If you say otherwise then you are either a musical snob or not musical at all.

    l.... ....

You're wrong, Herbie Herbert was responsible for Journey's change of direction, and not Perry.

  30. b.... ....

JOURNEY. NEXT. LOOK INTO THE FUTURE..ALL AWESOME ALBUMS..I HAD ALL OF THEM TILL THEY WENT commercial..pop music.

  31. l.... ....

"Sitting in the corner of the room thinking of you: wondering what you're doing now we're apart...." This song is so badass....great lyrics great musicianship

    l.... ....

Journey hands down has given me so much joy over my entire life the high-energy rock and roll has fueled me, and it is in the gym as well as good times with my friends and my girlfriends. I'm indebted to Neal schon,Gregg Rollie, Anysley Dunbar, and Ross Vallory. They've been woven into the tapestry of my life. I don't know where we go when we die but I know the imprint of this music is carved into my brain and woven into my soul. Thank you so much journey.

  32. S.... T....

By far the best journey has ever done

  33. U.... S....

Their best album in my humble opinion.

    U.... S....

Their best album in my opinion was their 1st album, Rock On...

    U.... S....

Evolution was the last of this awesome sound they had..then it started to form into a different sound...I much prefer this sound and not the pop stuff after.

    U.... S....

@Chris Choir The first LP is the best, followed by the 2nd.

    U.... S....

@Chassytimi Such a strange combo. Evolution is bubble gum pop, the 1st LP is prog.

    U.... S....

@Mojo Risin Journey is my no1 band. Among Judas Priest and Black Sabbath. But, I love Infinity and Évolution. I wouldn't say it's bubble gum.

  34. R.... S....

Steve Perry got aynsly Dunbar fired because he wanted a softer playing drummer as aynsly was a beast on the drums meaning one great drummer

    R.... S....

Ray Segura And Steve Smith isn't a great drummer. Get a grip. I rate Smith up there with Neil Peart.

    R.... S....

Peter McAllister i like peart, chambers, mangini, harrison, etc "busier" players.

    R.... S....

i bet Schon would have taken Jeff Porcaro on drums in a heartbeat

    R.... S....

Dunbar was let go by Herbie Herbert, the band's manager, because of his thing for underage girls. Perry and the rest of the band had NOTHING to do with Dunbar being a let go. He was let go from Jefferson Starship a few years later for the same reason.

    R.... S....

Herbert said as much in an interview. Said Aynsley was always one step ahead of the local sheriff on more than
    One occasion

  35. t.... ....

The last Journey album before they got Perry and became commercial megastars. I won't use the word sellout because it's wrong. But something was lost when they made the change. It's sad but if they hadn't they would've been sacked by their record company and probably broken up in which case this would be most likely forgotten by most people.

    t.... ....

I am guessing you listen to the radio alot.

    t.... ....

@ledzepne1 Who are you talking to? Me? If so, then no, I don't listen to the radio. only occasionally. There are only one or two stations in my area that I can listen to longer than 1/2 an hour. One's a jazz station and the other is a classic rock station. The rest of the stations are either Mexican, Rap, Christian, or pop bullshit. Not much to choose from these days. I grew up in the 70's and they USED to have more listenable radio stations. But, not anymore. The music scene has really taken a nose dive since the late 70's. Everything seems too computerized, singers can't seem to sing anymore, and the songwriting is non existent.

    t.... ....

    +ledzepne1 you guessed wrong

    t.... ....

tp10488 , even the classic rock stations are more into bon jovi and guns and roses than real rock. they need me as their program director.

    t.... ....

He is only phoning it in here with this version of Journey, well because that is all he is allowed to do, just play the hits, and never stretch, the teenie boppers and the Soccer Moms won't be able to relate, and thus not buy the tickets.

Go listen to his other stuff, he is better then he was in the 70's, the stuff he and Neal are doing sans Journey on their own is magical.

  36. D.... N....

    Spaceman

  37. D.... ....

---->Hamstergirl444.  I always wondered where the roof of Oakland Coliseum went. Now I know.  Thanks.

  38. C.... K....

Wow, this song brings back memories.  Mr. Ansley Dunbar on drums.

    C.... K....

"And how !" on the drumming, eh..????

  39. h.... ....

What a treat to hear this again - thank you :)  I first saw Journey in '76 - it was New Year's Eve, and they opened for Lynyrd Skynrd...and they just blew the roof off the Oakland Coliseum...I ran out the next day and bought this album :) I also saw them several times after Perry joined the band...and while I loved his voice, their new "pop" sound just didn't do it for me.

    h.... ....

hamstergirl4444 They played at our HS in 76, Ygnacio Valley in Concord. Y&T opened for them. Pretty cool Senior year.

    h.... ....

I was there. You're 100% right, Journey TORE THE ROOF OFF that sucker. Poor Skynrd, they waited damn near an hour before they came out onstage, didn't matter, they couldn't follow that. Journey blew the headliner off the stage. I remember the laser show, my first one. And believe it or not the sound was not bad for the Oakland basketball arena. I may have been in a sweet-spot but I could everything really well. My buddy and I left after Skynrd's third song. There were quite a few people leaving, the energy was gone.

    h.... ....

Lol didn't think the album would come till a year later

    h.... ....

Oakland, I was there! My first concert. What an epic show, a memory I'll never forget! And to think that just a year or two later both Journey and Skynyrd were changed forever. We were lucky to have seen these lineups. Stoneground opened the show so there were actually 3 bands. My guitar teacher had actually played lead in Stoneground back in the day. Amazing time growing up in the bay area. I saw so many great concerts. I'm grateful!

    h.... ....

@Dan Bertucci Marin County in the '70s. Sweet spot in time, sweet spot in location. Can't find that attitude anywhere else! What ever happened to deep real people?
Saw the last of the real Journey headlining Winterland San Francisco 1979. They announced from the stage; "We have a new singer and are going in a different direction now, we know will will loose a lot of you fans but we will gain a lot more!" True enough...they lost me.

  40. R.... E....

Awesome!! This is why Neal Schon is ranked as my #1 guitarist:)

  41. j.... J....

    Fukkin wicked Neal guitar!  Stellar

  42. S.... M....

Excellent stuff journey 0910! Thanks for taking time to post these classic pre-Perry lps, and at such great quality. This NEXT album has to be their best. Too bad the record companies force great bands to go so commercial to make the almighty buck; the music always suffers.

  43. J.... ....

I read somewhere Schon sacked Dunbar b/c his playing wasn't up to par anymore.

Well as badass as Neal is on this track - and he IS burning it up here - the guy
driving this EPIC take is Aynsley XXXking Dunbar !

From that opening snare pummel lick all the way thru to the finish crash note Dunbar is bringing it. Bringing it and DELIVERING it!

I LOVE this track & it's Aynsley that makes it so outstandingly great.

    J.... ....

JustAintThatWay I heard that Dunbar left because the new stuff was mundane for him, like playing the songs was warm up for the drum solo.

  44. R.... ....

This IS Journey as far as I'm concerned. When they left Santana to form Journey they were peaking as that "band" so Steve Perry was a natural "Evolution"... being money was the reason for selling out and began a more commercialized career w/Perry and very, very lucrative for everyone except... GR.

  45. c.... ....

Don't ya just love Gregg Rolie's voice?

  46. I.... a....

First heard this one in 1977 in a german underground disco, didnt know the band then searched for 36 years and finally found the bloddy thing ...... !!! i knew it was journey though...
what a track !! this one is out of this world , still makes my hair stand and i am only 52 !
thanks for uploading such a master piece.......

  47. S.... D....

Great album...*still has the "nice price" sticker on it
