Joss Stone - What Were We Thinking Lyrics

[VERSE]
Try to turn it off
But it's hard to see
Through this emptiness
Slowly breaking me
Maybe hurt me just a little less
Then I can start to breathe
But still your heart is out of reach

[CHORUS]
What were we thinking
And what will we do now
Ah ha
Right now
Right now
Right now
Ooh ooh

[VERSE]
The sun hasn't shined today at all
A funny thing
You haven't called
Tell me why
Or should I be asking?
How would I respond to it all
Times were good
I wish you were around more
I can feel you at my door
But it's not you
It's someone else
What can I do
Ooh, what did we do

[CHORUS]
What were we thinking
What were we thinking
What were we thinking
Right now
Right now
Right now

[VERSE]
Try to turn it off
But it's hard to see
Through this emptiness
Slowly breaking me
Maybe hurt me just a little less
Then I can start to breathe
But still your heart is out fo reach

[CHORUS]
What were we thinking
What can we do now
Right now
Right now

[VERSE]
Try to turn it off
But it's hard to see
Through this emptiness
Slowly breaking me
Maybe hurt me just a little less
Then I can start to breathe
But still

I should have known
It was right in front of me
Screaming girl just walk away
See it can't ever be
Oh, what would we do now
We carried on making our mistakes
Thinking our love was free
Now you've taken part of me
Right now

Oooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh JOSS STONE.....MY BAD QUEEN JOSS STONE WHERE ARE YOU??????????? DON'T WORRY I'LL WAIT

  13. N.... ....

The fact that this was recorded outside of the studio booth with a hand-held mic and regular amplifiers in the background, while Joss was sitting on a chair, singing her little heart out, and, of course, that this track was recorded in one shot, ONE SHOT, makes me admire and love this woman even more. My god... The raw emotion in this song is what makes it so wonderful, you can feel every verse piercing into your soul, it takes my breath away, really. This is what I expect when I listen to music, to feel something. None of that autotune bullshit, or those overused background samples and noises, people have in their songs nowdays. This is what I feel like is meant to be said when we hear someone say "real music". The heart and soul that was poured in every single verse, every single melody, music that means something, and that carries emotion into it for us to share and identify with. Not just some beats, random noises, some generic singing and that's it. Music is a lot more than that, and Joss Stone does music its justice, such a wonderful artist! YOU GO JOSS, KEEP DOING YOUR THING!

  14. T.... P....

  30. M.... A....

I can feel the emotion coming from this song. Though I would never cross the line, I am currently in a situation where I want someone I can't have. This song would probably describe where I would end up, heartbroken. It is AMAZING! Right at 3:27....it becomes so evident that she is singing from something deeply personal. ..."we carried on makin' our mistakes, thinkin' love was free, now you've taken part of me..."

  31. M.... ....

A new white Aretha! I'm addicted..

    M.... ....

Musical02 [six years late, I know, but...] she actually went on record as stating Aretha Franklin as one of her biggest influences growing up. it shows here.

  32. F.... ....

This girl is the very best of the new generation, IMHO. Best singer since Janis Joplin. My new fave. Janis would have loved Joss.

    Peace.

  33. k.... m....

Mr Saadiq's signature is all over this song!  Again girl you have been blessed with a FINE production.
You have been blessed with his presence; I love your voice, it is just mature and comforting.

I hope you keep the same production team...it works for you...He makes the emotion, your joy and pain bounce from the bottom of your feet to the top of your head and down your spine. Then bam...it (your voice) resonates through my being.

Thanks for being you and giving your gift.

  34. A.... B....

This has to be my favorite song by her! I can't wait for her to drop her fourth album!

    C.... ....

CAAJDJ josstone is the best sing in the world because she is real

  46. r.... o....

your right i do worship Joss because she is my favourite artist around and music is my life. I totally get that you site many other soul singers in the states to have as good if not better vocals than Joss. I just lover her voice but more than anything i love the way she sings, the tone in her voice and there's something very beautiful about her to me. and i dont mean how she looks. I am so proud to be able to say i come from the same country as her.

    r.... o....

ri os because you can tell she is feel the music in her soul and you don. t have to be black😁

  47. r.... o....

Like i already aknowledged there are other artists over in the states that have as goos a vocals as Joss. Its that extra something that gives her the edge. Maybe this is a poor example but look at Madonna, the woman does not by any means have a great voice yet has sold more records than Aretha.

  48. r.... o....

To be honest, iv said it once and il say it again if the UK can t find it within themselves to be proud of Joss and her achievments its there loss. and i for one do not blame her one bit for wanting to move away from a country that is dis-owning her. They need to come up with a better excuse than what her accent sounds like.

    r.... o....

    She's from Australia

  49. r.... o....

Maybe they hate Joss because it appears she has it all, Talent, Looks, Money, Success and is a good person. maybe there jealous of what she has. And unlike other artists her life isn't all over the place, she isn't a drug addict or an alcoholic. Nor is she hanging her dirty washing in public. She has a class and elegance about her. Maybe she's to perfect!

  50. r.... o....

Which if i take a step back i can to an extent understand. however what do they expect? Joss was in my opinon blessed with this voice, what she meant to sing about? Fairies and Lollipops? Maybe she hasn't lived a hard life but she is only 20 and im sure she'll go through shit in her life. And why do they have no problem with other people in a similar positon and less talent than Joss singing about these things?

  51. r.... o....

And its hard to understand the british press because at the beginning of Joss career when she brought out 'The Soul Sessions' they built her up to be the next big star of soul. and a few years later when she has gained the success that they predicted she would they want to drag her down again. From what i hear the British Public don't like Joss because they can't understand how Joss can sing about all these things that she has never experienced or lived through.

  52. r.... o....

Its something i can't really put my finger on, Joss is no ordinary soul singer. She has an extra edge over them. its hard to explain and i don't know if you understand what i mean but i just think Joss is special. And when i say Britain doesn't really have much of a 'soul scene' what i really mean is its not that successful over here. We have produced great soul singers like Joss, Amy Winehouse and Beverly Knight they just dont get much recognition. which is sad.

  53. r.... o....

I guess what im trying to say is, all of these other soul singers over in the states are as im sure we agree super talented. Although and i dont mean this in anyway dis-respectfully but they are 10 a penny. Like every 20 years an artist such as Joss comes along who has the pipes that these girls have but also has something different. I don't mean her image which i agree has helped.

  54. r.... o....

Yeah I heard of Bianca Ryan along while ago and i agree she is a big talent for the future. However the reason why i think Joss is more successful than many other 'soul singers' is her diversity. You could argue that there are a few with bigger voices than Joss. Although not many soul singers can rock it out like joss can or sing so beautifully soft like she can.

  55. r.... o....

Although you have to understand people from the UK would tell you Robbie Williams is one of the greatest artists to ever live. which is clearly isn't the case. And at the other end of the scale Beverly Knight has never even won a BRIT award when she is one of the finest artists they've produced over the last 20 years. Im proud to be british but struggle to understand the logic sometimes.

  56. r.... o....

USA has a population over 200 million people (dont quote me on that) and the UK 60 million. so she is a appealing to a much wider audience and inturn her music is reaching alot more people. The average brit's opinon of her from what i gather is she tries to be American therefore they don't like her. However Amy Winehouse on the other hand is as english as fish 'n' chips and acts like trailor trash yet has the full support of the british public.

  57. r.... o....

I dont think there's many 20 year old girls out there, that could write music to this level. there cant be very many albums that have gone 'Gold' that were written by people of that age. I genuinly believe she has an un-deniable talent and if the UK are to ignorent to recognise her then its there loss.

  58. r.... o....

I think if you listen to each of Joss's albums in order, you will see the progression and that she is still improving. I believe she will be in the industry for years to come and is no where near her peak right now. Her song writing ability to me has great potential and she will loosen and become less generic with each album.

  59. r.... o....

and i agree that Joss's success will continue to be pro-dominantly in the states because the UK music seen is being dominated by bands that all sounding exactly the same. There isn't much of a 'Soul' scene. although they have produced two of the best of our time (in my opinion)

  60. r.... o....

besbo i kinda agree with you here, especially with the lyric you quoted. i never did get why the Uk dis-owned her but it kinda adds up. although i dis-agree that Joss is at all diva-ish or tries to act black (if thats even possible). I like her new direction alot.

  61. D.... ....

Do you really think so? Personally, I feel that Introducing Joss Stone is the most relateable and real album she has ever made. And I think the reason for that is because she wrote almost every song on this amazing album... Anyway, I love Joss, and I love this song. I love all of Introducing but right now this is my favorite song. I can completely relate to it :)
