I was scrolling through Spotify when suddenly this song popped up in my queue and started playing. I was just about to skip it when I got up to the chorus. I usually don't like recommended songs but there was something about this song. Something so calming, so beautiful, so emotional that pulled me through. When I had finished it I felt as if I was, in fact, floating up to the moon. (The lyrics obviously were describing ummmm... something different than what I imagined it to be 😂 but his vocals and the music transported me) This was one of the rare moments in my life where I felt as if someone had sung away all my useless thoughts and allowed me to be present in the moment. But when I looked at the artist bar it was sung by Jonghyun, an unfamiliar yet extremely vivid name. I had heard of him somewhere before. After a few minutes of thinking, I realised it was that Idol who committed suicide. Sadly at that time, that was all I knew about this precious soul. This made rethink whether or not to dive into the rest of his music. I thought the rest of his songs would be some basic, depressive songs. But honestly, and this WAS my STUPID OPINION at the time, I mainly thought that his music might have been overhyped because of his death. So many people check artists who have passed out of remorse and then click off two seconds later, forgetting they ever did but after Moon, I wanted to like his music because of him and because it was good, not his tragic death. I think I played Moon 45 times that day and about 45000 times more the following week. At this point I was obsessed and so I decided to check him out, I didn't care whether he had no other songs as amazing as Moon (WHICH HE TOTALLY DOES!!) I just no longer wanted to think I was missing out other beautiful songs. Best. Decision. Ever. I listened to several of his songs including Lonely, shining, she is etc. Which I thoroughly enjoyed however when I came across Let me out and then art that is Diphylleia grayi I was amazed. The concepts, the lyrics, the emotion, THE V.O.C.A.L.S. It was honestly beautiful. I and I became yet again obsessed listening to nothing but his songs for about an hour. I went to check out the lyrics again to be immersed in the raw sense of emotion that his songs provided me with. I was so immersed in the music that I forgot he was gone and I kept getting excited at the idea of him releasing new songs someday. I was smacked by reality hard when I remembered what had happened. I didn't know Jonghyun, I don't even stan Shinee (even though I've heard they are total legends...respect) by listening to his songs I felt transported to a new world, immersed in a music bubble. I don't understand the words but I feel the music and this was a rare thing for me. RIP Jonghyun, not just for fans but for others, your music affects people, transporting them to different places. It allows people to feel things and relate. Although the world no longer has physical ties with Jonghyun, the emotional and spiritual ties to this man through his music and himself as an artist are endless. I am embarrassed for noticing such a talented individual this late but happy that in the end listened.
