Jones, George - My Elusive Dreams Lyrics
I followed you to Texas
I followed you to Utah
We didn't find it there, so we moved on
I went with you to Alabam'
Things looked good in Birmingham
I know you're tired of followin'
My elusive dreams and schemes
For they're only fleeting things
My elusive dreams
You had my child in Memphis
Then I heard of work in Nashville
We didn't find it there, so we moved on
To a small farm in Nebraska
We didn't find it there, so we moved on
And now we've left Alaska
Because there was no gold mine
But this time, only two of us moved on
And now all we have is each other
And a little memory to cling to
And still I won't let you go on alone
I know you're tired of followin'
My elusive dreams and schemes
For they're only a fleeting thing
My elusive dreams
For they're only a fleeting thing, my elusive dreams...

Reai vountry o my gosh tammy's singing here. What a song these two singing
true love never ends.
Why does everything have a ending, everytime l come accross these too,it’s gotton so sad!
I still have dreams but I lost two brothers in the last 18 months so I will continue to dream but they are now lonely and empty .
Love this version they were great together thanks for the great post
Essential!
Just the best from my two favourites, thank you from NZ 💞💞
The American way of life
What a great rendition. Unbelievable.
Tammy had that teardrop in her voice like Marty had, which is why he was called Mr. Teardrop. I can't decide who had a more crystal clear voice, Tammy or Anita Carter. Both had a tough time with health issues.
Beautiful but sad
SUCK IT "New Nashville!"
Tammy sold more albums then the Beatles
I;M SURE SHE DID DARRELL BUT THANK YOU
FOR THE INFO -------------------------------JOHN
I do so love them together! One of the best country music duo!!
Fabulous. Can it get any better than this? So many of their songs sound like hymns because I feel these two were so anointed by God with amazing talents.
When in the presence of greatness one knows it. Many duets have been good over the years but to find one even this good is long hard search. They did some great music and now we have lost them both. Loses like this are extremely hard to duplicate. I can only say thank you to them for the music they left behind for the decades to enjoy.
THANKS FOR LISTENING DAVID AND YOUR SO RIGHT THEY ARE BOTH IRREPLACEABLE
This song is a love song that truly is my grandparents love story....the song the same places are different... Pennsylvania to Mississippi to Texas to Montana..Wyoming to Washington state...

Best Wishes --------John
John wesson Thank you for comment, it means a lot.
These two were truly Country music royalty. Sadly the bottle destroyed their marriage. George Jones' voice always moves me, but their duets were awesome!
Agreed ,Peter so thank goodness we can still hear them perform all those wonderfulsongs
It is wonderful to hear George sing. Tammy and George together singing this song beautiful something to hear spiritual
I love George Jones, but this version is sappy compared to David Houston and Tammy Wynette version. The tempo is slowed in this one and the verse is changed with Tammy singing " and still, I won't let you go on alone." David Houston sang "and still, you won't let me go on alone" with the tremolo in his voice and it just kills me.
Thanks for listening Bonnie but I think this is the best version of the song as do the vast majority of George and
Tammy fans, but it's just a matter of choice really. Thanks again and best wishes ------John

Try Scotland its for realists😉
My husband got me hooked on this song a couple of months ago and it really hit home.
We got married six years ago and we promised each other that two years from that date we move from South Carolina to his home town of Austin, Texas. 2 years and three months after we made that promise we moved to Austin. When we got there, he realized it wasn't how he remembered, it wasn't home. So, we made another pact that within two and a half years we would move somewhere else (destination unknown at that time). In exactly 2 1/2 years, we packed up and moved cross country to Seaside, OR. My husband, my son, and I traveled three weeks across the western states. Oregon was beautiful but it wasn't anything like we thought it would be so we packed up and moved back to Austin (that was in July 2014).
My son and I were so home sick for South Carolina, we all moved back in October 2014).
My husband and I always have itchy feet and we have been talking for the last 6 months about moving to Alaska. My son doesn't want to and made me promise that we would stay here another two years until he graduated high school. He doesn't want to go. Hopefully, he will change his mind. If not, it will be just the two of us until We visit each other. (There is something about that two years ☺)
Anyway, we are always following our "Elusive dreams and schemes".
+Penney Woods that's beautiful and devastating. Live and ...,maybe don't move
+Penney Woods come on now, home is where you make it :)
maybe you should consider visting the place before you move to a new city...
If you didn't live in Austin in the 1970's, you missed out.
Penney Woods it's been two years, where are y'all now?
Hope your very happy..

+Penney Woods that's how my wife ended kicking me out - it's just one now moving on, and I have no idea where to find it. I realized too late that SHE was the 'place' - I had found it there, where she was.
You can never go home. Your eyes today don't see the image of your memory.
Stonewall Jackson country singer
this is nice and an amazing duet
+Ralph G The best Ralph thanks for listening
a great song by americas greatest couple thanks for posting this

LOVE COUNTRY AND SO LOVED THEM TOGETHER.
@Rita Walsh Me too Rita thanks for listening
THEY DONT SING SONGS LIKE THIS ANYMORE I WONDER WHY NOT.
because new country sucks
because these peoples are dying out
this is a super version .. thanks
@Bernie OReilly Your very welcome Bernie thank you for listening
George hated this type of popcountry but he recorded it anyway just because he wanted to have a hit.
@HillbillyBoogie1 And he certainly did have a huge hit along side Tammy so he wouldn't feel too bad about recording it
Thanks for listening Hillbilly much appreciated.
Lovely song, lovely rendition too. Brings tears to my eyes and a chill to my spine every time I hear it. It's not hard to see why these two were the giants of Country Music in their time. Thank you so much for giving us all the opportunity to enjoy this here on 'You Tube' - one of the beauties of the modern technological age !!
Thanks for listening much appreciated
Every time this comes on, I end up a wreck!!!
Best duet by any two singers ever...I'm wiping my eyes
This is for sure one touching song Tammy and George are singing to the heart
Yes thank you for sharing we all can hear and know some special heart touching singing
best version is David Houston and Tammy Wynette. No doubt about it.
I dont think so....This version is more real, and pure. Houston just sang the words - Tammy and George they sang the Song in a real, deep feeling.
It's just a matter of choice and my choice is Tammy and George
You are all full of shit. DAVID AND TAMMY HAD THE BEST VERSION.NODOUBT ABOUT IT.
Just your opinion and other people have a right to their 's too
Merle Gann I like Jones better in general, but I have to agree with you on this particular song.
Best version there is. Thanks for posting it.
Your very welcome Rusty this is my favorite version too ,thanks for watching
Fantastic
Thanks for listening baz its one of those songs that will never die.Best wishes ----John
Love this duet.
My favorite version. Love Tammy, easy to understand why she is the "First Lady of Country Music" . When she starts talking at 2:19 brings chills.
My favorite too Tom.Thanks for listening very much appreciated
George jones & tammy are the best love ever to exist. June
Best version of this song - Houston's voice sounds so put on - Jones voice is just BUTTER
I AGREE I ALSO THINK THIS IS THE BEST VERSION BUT HOUSTON HAS CERTAINLY GOT MANY ADMIRERS
SO IT'S A MATTER OF CHOICE I SUPPOSE.THANKS FOR WATCHING TIMOTHY MUCH APPRECIATED
probably impossible to even get close to Jones, in the words of Vince Gill George and Tammy made Country Magic, total Perfection
