Jones, George - Memories Of Us Lyrics

The old man has sold his apples
Isn't there any more
And the city square don't seem as big
As it did before.

They tore down that old drug store
We used to love so much
But everything is still the same
In my memories of us.

That old school bus has long stopped runnin'
And I heard the driver died
And the movie house is all boarded up
Where we set side by side.

And the sign that said 'State Champions'
It's covered up with dust
But everything it's still the same
In my memories of us.

In my memories of us
Things are still the same
For yesterdays is something
Tomorrows can not change.

Where freckles just don't disappear
Ands pigtails never rust
And everything it's still the same
In my memories of us.

My memories of us...

definitely Jeff....time has unfortunately passed us by. I remember my Dad playing Jones, Hag, Merle, and so many more as we traveled down the highway. Life was so much simpler. This particular track really hits home.

Without a doubt one of his very best that I've heard from George and I have several hundred of his songs. Just absolutely don't get any better in my humble opinion. Bless you Sir.

I agree, he does an amazing job with this one.

This is one of the finest songs of it's type, that I have come across. It just fills my heart with nostalgic feelings and memories of when I was much younger. Pure Americana !

Even Bobby Braddock is quoted as saying he didn't think too much of "He stopped loving her today" when he wrote it. Anyone who follows Jones knows there are a ton of songs better/sadder that he sang, it was just timing that "He Stopped" came along with the come back of Jones! Love live the King Of Broken Hearts! "George bygod Jones!"

You know, we just might have to reconsider the generally held belief that "He Stopped Loving Her Today" is the saddest song ever.
