Jones, George - Cold, Cold Heart Lyrics

You don't know who I am,
But I know all about you;
I've come to talk to you tonight,
About the things I've seen you do.

I've come to set the record straight,
I've come to shine the light on you;
Let me introduce myself,
I am the cold hard truth.

There is a woman we both know,
I think you know the one I mean;
She gave her heart and soul to you,
You gave her only broken dreams.

You say you're not the one to blame,
For all the heartaches she's been through;
I say you're nothin' but a liar,
And I'm the cold hard truth.

All your life that's how it's been,
Looking out for number one;
Taking more than you leave,
Moving on when your done.

With her you could have had it all,
A family and lots of laughs;
If you had any sense at all,
You'd go and beg her to come back.

You think that you're a real man,
But you're nothing but a fool;
The way you run away from love,
The way you try to play it cool.

I gonna say this just one time,
Time is running out on you;
You best remember me my friend,
I am the cold hard truth.

You best remeber me my friend,
I am the cold hard truth...

    George Jones' singing transcended country music, in the same way Ray Charles put his stamp on every genre he touched. His completely original phrasing, the rich tone that was his birthright, and that little something he would add right at the end of each note that registers like a bonus point. He was a laid-back, humble genius who, speaking for myself, can only be listened to with awe.

    Only a great legend such as George can sing with such a over powering voice that u can truly feel the hurt and aching of the song. This song first sang by a great legend can only be sang by another true legend such as George. WHOS GONNA FILL THESE SHOES? Rip u both r icons and showed me music is your soul and everyone hurts the same. Great job george did and this song is a great one too

    Gives me chills..............George we love and miss you so much.  No one can ever sing country like you, they broke the mold.  RIP dearest Mr. Jones.  People who love REAL country never knew how much they would miss you until you left us.

    @KLUNKET so true i always say that in a 100 yrs people will hear jones and not believe he was real at all , sure he is unbeatable really , and prob the best COUNTRY singer the world will ever have, up to the last 5 r 6 yrs he could just outsing about everyone, god sure gave george the gift

  20. v.... ....

    I'd have loved to hear George record this when he was at his vocal peak.

    v.... ....

    He did a version back in the '60s I think. You can find it here on YouTube.

  21. B.... ....

    nothing any better then jones singin one of old hanks songs

  22. K.... ....

    I've had arguments about this, but I still think that the 1990's was George Jones's vocal prime. If you listen to his earlier recordings he was great, but really high picthed and didn't twist the notes near as much. In the 80's and 90's he released some vocals that make you think, "nobody can sing that good". But Jones could! I was in Nashville in 1996 and got to hear Jones and the Jones boys rehearsing at the Ryman, and even his rehearsal sounded better than his actual recordings!!

    K.... ....

    KLUNKET your right when I heard him with just his guitar there's nothing like it greatest singer ever klunket I am a big fan like you seen George around 50 times in concert been on bus with him in the mid 80s had a beer or two little pony miller's he liked those back stage with him right before he would perform great memories and lots of memorabilia

    K.... ....

    His voice was at his prime from the time he found it ( when he stopped trying to sound like Roy Acuff and Lefty until he lost it after the car crash). It just happened to changed over the years. Even when he was four sheets to the wind he could blow you away.
