Jon Foreman - The House Of God, Forever Lyrics

God is my shepherd
I won't be wanting
I won't be wanting
He makes me rest
In fields of green
With quiet streams

Even though I walk
Through the valley
Of death and dying
I will not fear
Cause you are with me
You are with me

Your shepherd's staff comforts me
You are my feast
In the presence of enemies
Surely goodness will follow me
Follow me
In the house of God forever

God is my shepherd
I won't be wanting
I won't be wanting
He makes me rest
In fields of green
By quiet streams

Even while I'm walking
Through the valley
Of death and dying
I will not fear
Cause you are with me
You're always with me

Your shepherd's staff comforts me
You are my feast
In the presence of enemies
Surely goodness will follow me
Follow me
In the house of God forever

In the house of God forever
In the house of God forever

I was running errands in my car, flipping through music stations, chaffing against synthetic sounds, drum machines, and over-processed vocals; then this song reached my ears--caressed my spirit--and made me long for a closer relationship with Jesus/

The Bible is a compendium of fire side tales and fables,

recounted orally for generations by goat herders and primitive tribes from the stone age, until writing was invented,

and then again, many different sources, transliterations, and versions were copied and written down.

''The Bible was created during a time where stories were orally passed down over thousands of years.
Stories constantly morphed and changed over time, and the Bible is a collection of these.
This is why it has the nearly identical flood story from Gilgamesh, and why Jesus has the same characteristics as Dionysus, Osiris, Horus, Mithra, and Krishna.
The contradictions and immorality in the stories are not evidence that God is flawed or evil,
but rather that humans invented him, just like the thousands of other gods that we used to but no longer believe in.''

...and to answer the questions of the many fears and mysteries of our universe, like 'thunder' and earthquakes, since there was no science yet.

    This is the old Testament.

The ‘new’ Testes is also hearsay since these letters, ‘gospels’ and stories were written by the loyal faithful, the camp followers,
not by objective historians at that particular time,
    or by any contemporary writers,
and these tales were written many years after the supposed events of this mythical Jesus.

Thus, there is no verifiable evidence of a Jesus in real documented history.

Then, many of these stories, but not all, as many were not chosen,
[ There are more than just four Gospels but only these four were agreed on ],
were compiled for one self-absorbed converted Roman Emperor in his Nicean Council,
for his expressed purpose of conquest and
control of the people of Europe for his Holy Roman Empire.
He recognised that this was the perfect religion/mythology for the future domination of the populaces.

Half of the stories were ignored by the Nicean Bishops and none have been proven to be based on fact.

This ‘Bable’ book is backed up by absolutely no facts and no evidence.
It is not proof for any god(s) ....(or of any jesus...)

    It is a historical novel......

    Only!

The Bible is proof of a book ONLY (certainly not evidence of any gods...)

    B.... D....

Hey Brien, I am wondering why you are so passionately against the legitimacy of the historicity of the Bible. Did you have a bad experience in a church or with Christians? I am wondering this because your arguments are unfounded (no citations to any reputable scholarly sources) and it seems like you are very angry about Christianity (please feel free to correct me if I am misreading your emotions). If that is the case, I wonder why you hate the idea of the person of Jesus Christ. I just want to encourage you to remember that human beings are flawed and will make all sorts of mistakes and do terrible things (even in Jesus' name), but Jesus himself - God, who came to earth - is perfect in every way. He invites all to come to him, learn his ways, and enjoy him forever.

I walked through a season of life where I was really questioning the reality of Jesus and the Christian faith. In my searching, I discovered that there is incredible evidence that Jesus not only existed, but that he also died, was buried, and resurrected from death. If these things are true, He is proven to be God and we should believe in him and everything he says.

Please take a moment to research the resurrection of Jesus:

I'm going to have this song played at my wedding with the woman that I'm standing next to in my profile picture.
“For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her." Ephesians 5:25.

    S.... A....

Izayah Luna-Goddard did you change your profile?

  64. J.... E....

    Dear Jon Foreman,
My name is Jonathan Shafe and I am fifteen years old. I discovered your music just recently and fell in love with it. For the first time I heard interesting original melodies and honest lyrics from a Christian perspective--something I had been searching for, for a long time. For awhile now I have been interested in the music industry but have been unable to find any helpful information concerning it. My parents are missionaries in West Africa and I can appreciate so much what you sing about, from my own experiences and life. Music has an effect on people in way that I will never be able to completely understand. I know this is a lot to ask, but could you answer the following questions?

    1. How long has your occupation been that of a musical artist?
    2. What other occupations have you worked in previously?
3.Do you primarily work with people, things, or ideas?
    4. What do you like most about your job?
    5. How did you get started as a musical artist?
    6. What personal qualities do you feel are needed to succeed as an artist?
    7. What type of training is needed for this occupation today?
    8. What changes in your job (music-industry-wise) have you seen occur?
    9. What are the most frequently recurring problems on your job?
    10. Do you have any long-term career goals?
    11. Does your job require primarily independent activity or is there a lot of teamwork?
    12. Who evaluates your performance and how does that actually take place?
    13. Can experience be substituted for formal education credentials?
    14. What would you say are the rewards of your position?
    15. What hours do you usually work as an artist? Do you find you have free time or is there always a deadline and no flexibility?
    16. What types of opportunities for growth and advancement are there as an artist?
    17. What would you say is your least favorite thing about being a musical artist?
    18. What advise would you give to a person who feels like a career as an artist is what God made them to do, but doesn't know how they should pursue it?

I appreciate you taking the time to answer this questions very much and just know that it means a lot to me. Keep seeking God and don't ever give up! Know that it's worth the pain and the struggle you touch more lives than you could ever imagine.
    Sincerely,
    Jonathan

+Gilbert Walker Yep. Sufjan is legit.

    J.... E....

Hey, thanks @Gilbert Walker, awesome music! There's a lot of similarity.

    J.... E....

Hey man, all "Christian" music can have it's place and value (though some of it is decidedly of greater value than other and I wholeheartedly agree with John that using the word Christian as a label for things is problematic and generally counter productive), but if you're looking for more excellent music written by Christian artists which falls outside the usual realms of hymns, formulaic "praise and worship," and the CCM stuff that's basically "Christian" pop music, then you should also check out the bands Water Deep and Six Pence None the Richer, the music of Josh Bales, Keith Green (some one John lists as one of his influences), Don Francisco, Mark Heard, Randy Stonehill (Wonderama is my favorite album of his), and the poetic sung theology lessons of Michael Card.

    J.... E....

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have to look into them!

    J.... E....

JJ.e Efahs my parents were also missionaries to West Africa. We were in Benin and spent many years in the music industry and recorded several albums. Which country were/are you guys in?

  65. L.... A....

Thank you, Jon Foreman for creating so many inspiring compositions. I am forever grateful for your music! My whole life has been filled with your music and I hope that it always will! God bless you!!!

@Donald Lee Definitely not, Lacey has a very distinct voice. Whoever this girl is though, I LOVE her voice.

    N.... S....

Wikipedia says that it is Sarah Masen. Apparently she did some background vocals in some of Jon's other songs as well.

I can't imagine David's heart expressed to God in a more perfect way today than in this song. I listen to this often and appreciate you and Sarah Masen singing and recording it. May God inspire you to put more psalms to music.
