Johnny Mathis - On My Way To You Lyrics

So often as I wait for sleep
I find myself reciting
The words I've said or should have said
Like scenes that need rewriting
The smiles I never answered
Doors perhaps I should have opened
Songs forgotten in the morning
I relive the roles I've played
The tears I may have squandered
The many pipers I have paid
Along the roads I've wandered
Yet all the time I knew it
Love was somewhere out there waiting
Though I may regret a kiss or two
If I had changed a single day
What went amiss or went astray
I may have never found my way to you
I relive the roles I've played
The tears I may have squandered
The many pipers I have paid
Along the roads I've wandered
Yet all the time I knew it
Love was somewhere out there waiting
Though I may regret a kiss or two
If I had changed a single day
What went amiss or went astray
I may have never found my way to you
I wouldn't change a thing that happened
On my way to you

How can i make it on my own- Is from "The Best Days of My Life" album which I think was a 1979 release.

My grandmother was a JM diehard fan and I remember when i was a. child, she would play her records every Saturday morning and clean all day. "HOW CAN MAKE IT.." Was one of the songs that just stands out and one that I remembered most. I would love to listen to that song. It will unlock memories for me

How can I make it on my own" IS in fact a JM song. Released in 1979

    Iam 100% positive.

I'll take a look to see if I can hear it. Not all of the earlier LPs were converted to Mp3s. If I find it I will certainly let you know. Music and memories- always wonderful. Thanks for sharing the information- and your memory.

@gemeyes2 - I'm sure he would be moved- I can imagine- and what a way to send oneself to their next chapter. Sounds good. hopefully you have many more good years to enjoy him live.

I too am looking for the special song for my final event, but have come to the conclusion, there are far too many beautiful choices from Johnny Mathis, so I am going to make a cd of all my favorites and have it played throughout the final event. They say the hearing is the last to go and I will still be listening to his soothing voice during the transition to where ever I shall go -- cause I'm going out in style thanks to Mr. Johnny Mathis... I love you.

@Heart2Heart76 - Very glad to hear you found it- you will love every song! Johnny sings them with a very special quality of appreciation - they are soft in places and expansive in others. The song "What are you doing the rest of your life" has a fabulous clarinet- i think- horn- part- i think it is Arturo Sandoval. Great music all the way through. Enjoy- glad to be a part of your finding it.

  14. l.... ....

@Heart2Heart76 - I agree- very much. The seamless collaboration between the 4 of these gifted talents is incredible- and Johnny sings this whole CD with such respect for the songs, the emotions- the lyrics- it is- as the Bergman's wrote in the liner notes- a true 'gift' . Deeply touching song. You are so welcome- I am thrilled that you like it so. Please enjoy!

@ronfriedlos1 Hello Ron- how interesting to be struck by this song and this 'angelic voice' as celebration of life. I was just having some related thoughts - only moments ago- about how people can enter that next 'chapter' with grace. Not surprising that Johnny has often been asked to sing at end of life events for others. If this provides- I'm pleased it's here for you. You're welcome- and thank you for sharing such a special feeling.

  18. l.... ....
