Johnny Mathis - Odds And Ends Lyrics

Your pillow wasn't slept upon
Your closet was empty, too
All of your shirts and ties were gone
There wasn't a trace of you
How could you go and leave so completely?
Nothing was left
Of all the memories that we used to share
Just an empty tube of toothpaste
And a half-filled cup of coffee
Odds and ends of a beautiful love affair

At least you could have said goodbye
You shouldn't have to run away
Were you afraid that I would cry?
My tears might have made you stay
Gone are the dreams that kept us together
Nothing was left
To show that we were once so happy then
Just an empty tube of toothpaste
And a half-filled cup of coffee
Odds and ends of a beautiful love affair

How could you go and leave so completely?
Nothing was left
Of all the memories that we used to share
Just an empty tube of toothpaste
And a half-filled cup of coffee
Odds and ends of a beautiful love affair
Odds and ends of a beautiful love affair

Love this song, and anything sung be Johnny Mathis!

  6. t.... d....

It adds nothing  to the Warwick's version.

    t.... d....

@tricky dick Maybe, but it's just as good with the Mathis twist.

    t.... d....

+tricky dick totally opposite turn - once you realize there are no gender references here -- the entire album is a masterwork.

I grew up listening to Johnny Mathis because my parents loved him and played his songs over and over but I think this one was always my favorite.  My Mum always had a thing about him and now as an adult, I can see why!!  Brings back happy memories, thanks for posting.

Fabulous song! Searched for years...then finally found it..<3 <3

  9. K.... L....

I fell in love with this song in the early 70's. I want to say it was 1970. It is one of his best, but hard to find on CD. I have the LP but it has been worn out from playing over and over again! Love Burt Bacharach songs and Johnny's version of this is the best!

  10. B.... ....

A fine match for Dionne's version.

    B.... ....

Dionne and Johnny should do a concert together.

The original vinyl album of this is precious--includes pictures of Johnny and his dog Henry about to take a run on the beach!

Johnny has such a heavenly voice. What a incredibly vast recording career he has had. This song is yet another precious treasure from Johnny. When I here him sing the song Gina I fall in love with her , because Johnny's voice brings her to life

  16. B.... V....

My brother and sister used to sing this song. They knew I was a Johnny Mathis fan when I was 13 when every one else was listening to Andy Gibb lol.

  17. r.... ....

Everything he sings- he makes his own!-Thanks for posting.

  18. j.... ....

One of my favourites....Johnny's the best!!

  19. d.... ....

Dionne Warwick did this originally -- as she did with most of the Bacharach/David catalogue -- but I like Johnny's version so much better, and it's rare I'd say I like a cover version better that Dionne's!

  20. p.... ....

First time I have heard Johnny Mathis' version, and it's very good.

  21. B.... ....

One of my all time favorites by Johnny Mathis.

  22. f.... ....

  25. G.... W....

I've been looking for this song since the 70s, thanks for posing in on.

  26. M.... S....

I heard this in '86 and have been searching for it since. Thanks.

  27. H.... ....

Wow, I really like this! Thanks so much for posting and sharing this. It's been almost a year since I last heard this really love Bacharach tune. Sigh. I heard this song for the first-ever time last September, Dionne Warwick's version of it, and instantly fell in love with it! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  28. B.... ....

I became aware of this masterpiece in the late 70's while in the service. I borrowed the album from the base library. I played this song over and over and over. What a happy and sad song. Superb.

  29. M.... ....

I love the arrangement used for this song, has the country/western cowboy on a round-up kinda beat, but it works.

  30. s.... s....

This is a Bacharach tune. In America, I believe this was Mathis' hit primarily. At least I heard him exclusively in Nashville ,TN on WSM radio in the late 60's. Keith

  31. C.... H....

I was a big Mathis fan. He's a lovely singer, but I'd never heard Johnny's version of this number until a few minutes ago (Nov 10th, 2008). I think I still prefer Dionne Warwick's version. Greetings to 2ma4ja7 and everyone ... from Jarrahnut in wonderful Western Australia.
